Diamond Notes: Week 4

Each week, IHSA coaches around the state submit to us their nominations for the PBR Illinois Player of the Week honor. On Wednesday, we awarded the Week 4 POTW honor to C/OF Connor Lindsey (O'Fallon, 2022; Washington (MO)), who helped to lead the Panthers to a perfect 4-0 week where they scored a total of 70 runs in their offensive onslaught. At the plate, Lindsey went 11-for-14 with four home runs, a triple, five doubles, 20 RBIs, 10 runs scored and was hit by a pitch twice to go along with a stolen base. After this stellar week, Lindsey is now hitting .486 on the year with five home runs, a triple, five doubles, 27 RBIs, 16 runs scored and has swiped four bases - he also has a .558 OBP and 1.081 slugging percentage.

There were a number of other impressive performances that were in the mix for the award and deserve recognition. Here’s a look at some of the most notable.

Week 4 Diamond Notes

Austin Adcock OF / SS / Rochester , IL / 2022

The Lincoln Land commit put together an impressive week at the plate; going 6-for-11 with five extra base-hits including two home runs, two doubles, and a triple - recording an eye-popping 2.038 OPS for the week. Adcock now is batting .333 on the season with a 1.063 OPS.

Colin Barczi C / Naperville Central, IL / 2023

The Vanderbilt commit was only able to appear in two games due to unfortunate weather, but made those games count; finishing 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, four RBIs, six runs scored and a walk. His most dominant game came in a 9-6 win over No. 8 Lockport, where he went 2-for-2 with two home runs, three RBis, four runs scored and drew two walks.

Corey Boyette OF / Romeoville , IL / 2022

The Heartland CC commit put together yet another impressive week at the plate, finishing 7-for-11 with a home run, triple, double, eight RBIs, five runs scored and walked four times (two being intentional). One of the most impressive games Boyette put together was in front of our scouting staff; where he went the opposite way off one of the premier right-handers in the state for a home run. Boyette is now hitting .577 on the season with three home runs, five doubles, two triples, 17 RBIs, 10 runs scored and 10 walks - he also has an OBP of .684 and an OPS of 1.953.

Luke Burgos OF / 1B / Norte Dame College Prep, IL / 2022

The Dubuque commit put together a solid two-game stretch, finishing 4-for-6 with two doubles, four RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. His most impressive game came against Maine South, where he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored. 

Ethan Collins LHP / OF / Oak Lawn, IL / 2024

Collins is just a sophomore, but has been putting together some upperclass numbers so far this season. In a two-game series with Argo, Collins tossed four innings with no hits and eight strikeouts to earn the win; he also went a combined 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs, three RBIs, two runs scored, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Collins proceeded to add an RBI against Morton later on in the week.

William Fletcher RHP / 1B / Wheaton North, IL / 2022

The right-hander tossed a stellar game against Waubonsie Valley on Monday, helping to lead them to a 9-2 win. He tossed six innings while striking out 10 to go along with five hits, two earned runs and two walks. Fletcher is now 1-1 on the year with a 1.68 era and has 22 strikeouts in 15 innings.

Lucas Foley LHP / OF / Lake Zurich, IL / 2023

The southpaw turned in a strong outing to help lead Lake Zurich to a 1-0 victory over Libertyville on Monday. Foley went 7.2 innings while striking out 13 against no walks - also allowing just two infield singles along the way.

Nate Harris SS / RHP / Yorkville, IL / 2024

Sophomore Nate Harris has been a catalyst in the heart of Yorkville's lineup so far this year, and this past week was no different; finishing 9-for-16 with three home runs, three doubles, eight RBIs and seven runs scored. Harris homered in three different contests; the first being against Joliet Central in an 11-2 win where he went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. The next coming in a 15-12 win over Romeoville, where he finished 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored; and the last being in a 5-4 win over Morris, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Zachary Kwasny 3B / RHP / Lincoln-Way East, IL / 2023

The right-hander fired an impressive outing against St. Charles North to help lead his club to the victory; going seven strong innings with six hits, two earned runs, 10 strikeouts and just two walks.

Mason Lei RHP / Freeport, IL / 2023

Following up a stellar five inning-11 strikeout performance his outing prior, Lei picked up right where he left off with six strong innings to pair off 13 strikeouts, five hits, two earned runs and just one walk. Overall, Lei now has 14.1 innings with 30 strikeouts, eight hits, six walks, and just two earned runs - boasting a .97 ERA with a .163 BAA.

Eduardo Letamendi SS / 2B / Von Steuben, IL / 2023

The uncommitted junior had a stellar week for the Panthers, going 8-for-12 with a home run, triple, four doubles, seven RBIs and five runs scored. His most impressive game came in an 18-2 victory over Lincoln Park; where he went a perfect 4-for-4 and hit for the cycle, collecting six RBIs and scoring three times.

Angelo Luna OF / RHP / St. Laurence , IL / 2022

The Illinois-Springfield commit strung together two of the best games we have seen so far this season; going 2-for-3 with a triple, double, four RBIs and two runs scored in a 14-1 win over Fenwick. He then turned around two days later and went 3-for-4 with a home run, triple, double, three runs scored and six RBIs to beat Saint Ignatius by the score of 16-1.

Owen Murphy 3B / RHP / Riverside-Brookfield, IL / 2022

The Notre Dame commit helped propel the Bulldogs to a 5-0 week, improving their overall record to 7-2 on the season. The right-hander threw a perfect game against St. Patrick in which he struck out 17 of the 18 batters he faced in the 10-0 victory. At the plate this past week, he was 7-for-15 which included 3 home runs, 2 doubles, and 14 RBIs - also walking six times and scoring 12 runs. Against Chicago U-High on Wednesday, Murphy went 3-for-3 at the plate with two home runs (one being a grand slam), eight RBIs, four runs scored and walked once. 

Ethan Serrano OF / RHP / Von Steuben, IL / 2023

Ethan Serrano had a week to remember, finishing 9-for-11 with two home runs, five doubles, eight RBIs and six runs scored. His most impressive game came in a 9-2 victory over Whitney Young; where he went a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run, three doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Brendan Summerhill OF / C / Whitney Young, IL / 2022

The Arizona commit has been on a tear so far this season, and this past week was no different; going 11-for-15 with two home runs, a triple, four doubles, 10 RBIs, 11 runs scored, three walks and not striking out a single time. His most eye-popping game came in a 15-0 win over Clemente; where he went a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run, triple, two doubles, five RBIs and four runs scored.

Jake Swartz RHP / SS / Normal University, IL / 2022

The Illinois commit tossed a no-hitter against Glenwood this past week to improve to 3-0 on the year; racking up 15 strikeouts along the way with only two walks - also going against one of the most highly-regarded right-handed pitchers in the state. On the season, Swartz has 30 strikeouts to just three walks.

Jack Tobin 1B / RHP / Prairie Ridge , IL / 2022

The uncommitted senior put on a show against McHenry in their 9-4 victory; slugging two home runs at the plate. On the season, Tobin is hitting .522 with 15 RBIs. 

Adison Worthman OF / 3B / Bloomington, IL / 2023

Missouri commit and Reigning BIG 12 Player of the Year has been dominant so far in 2022, picking up right where he left off from last season. In his first BIG 12 action of 2022, Worthman homered twice, including a go-ahead grand slam in the top of the sixth to beat rival Normal West. Moving onto Saturday, Worthman continued his stellar play with a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to beat Richwoods 5-3. Worthman didn't stop there though, he also recorded a home run and three hits against Pontiac to help Bloomington to a perfect 5-0 record on the week with three home runs, 11 RBIs and a final line of 9-for-19.
