GENEVA, IL – Rivals No. 4 St. Charles North and St. Charles East met for the first of a three game set Monday night at Fifth Third Field in Geneva. North came from behind to take game one 8-1.
Trailing 1-0 headed to the top of the seventh inning the bats woke up for North, scoring eight times to seal the victory. After being stifled by East starter Steve Podany for six innings mustering just two hits, Blake Saltsman, Sam Faith, and Zach Fick all singled to start the seventh. Pinch hitter Conor Bizik got the North Stars on the board with an RBI single to keep the line moving. Brendan Joyce was then hit by a pitch to give North the lead.
With the bags still loaded and the infield in Luke Corcoran hit a chopper to short, the throw home was in the dirt allowing Fick and Bizik to score. Zach Mettetal added a two run double and Kyle Novotney chipped in with an RBI triple. After the dust settled it was 8-1 North.
Jack Lambert went the distance for the North Stars allowing just six hits, one run, and striking out six.
St. Charles East scored its lone run in the second inning when Anthony Adduci hit a double high off the wall in left centerfield and came around to score on an RBI single by Jim Dale.
St. Charles North improves to 25-4 on the year and St. Charles East drops to 21-10. Both teams meet again tomorrow at North at 4:30.
