Westfield, IN- Day three of the PBR Future Games marks the final day of game play. Team Illinois was matched up against Team Indiana in the grand finale of the PBR Future Games, a 5pm matchup on Saturday. Both teams had the scouts buzzing due to the high-level pitchers that had thrown throughout the first two games. Game three did not disappoint. Both teams brought back the same pitchers who threw in game one. Although Team Illinois took the loss 5-0, the 7 pitchers who threw for Team Illinois combined to strike out 16 Indiana hitters in the 7 inning game.  Illinois was only able to muster two hits against a stingy Indiana pitching staff that featured a combination of right and left-handed pitchers. Lets take a look at a few of the highlights from game 3.

6-foot-3, 180-pound long and lanky, athletic 2017 LHP Brendan Murphy (Mundelein) who throws from a high ¾ slot started the game for Team Illinois. He started the barrage of strikeouts while totaling three of them in the one inning he pitched.

In the top of the second inning Illinois had its best chance to score and it was due to infielder Zion Pettigrew (Mount Carmel). He hit a one out single and proceeded to steal second and third base. He eventually was stranded on third and that turned out to be Illinois’ best chance to score in the game.

Big bodied right-handed pitcher Erik Kaiser (Waterloo) came in next for Team Illinois and continued the strikeout theme. All three outs the hard-throwing right hander recorded were via the strikeout.

In the third left-handed pitcher Reid Detmers (Nokomis) came in and had one of the most impressive showings of the event. The hard throwing southpaw struck out all four batters he faced and didn’t waste time in doing so. Detmers who sat 86-88 mph in each of his showings has been drawing a lot of interest from the schools in attendance. He was also in the running for MVP of the PBR Future Games, which can be found CLICK HERE.

Athletic, strong 6-foot-3, 180-pound right handed pitcher Brady Corrigan (Plainfield North) one of the biggest risers on Team Illinois struck out one in his inning of work and his fastball ranged between 88-90 mph once again.

5-foot-11, 160-pound Konnor Ash (Plainfield South) came on in the seventh and kept hitters off balance mixing his mid-80’s fastball with a breaking ball for a strike. He struck out two Indiana hitters in his scoreless inning.

One other notable offensively was Dylan Jones (Oswego East) who went 1-2 on the day. The one hit came after a tough at bat where he eventually drove a ball through the right side of the infield.

Team Illinois ended the PBR Future Games with a record of 1-2 after playing Team Select, Team Missouri and Team Indiana. We will continue to roll out recaps of the PBR Future Games in the coming days.
