The Preseason I.D. Illiana Showcase took place on Monday, January 15 at Ho-Chunk Sports and Expo Center in Lynwood, IL. Prospects from all classes participated in a pro-style workout in front on the PBR Scouting Staff. This event was a joint effort between PBR Illinois and Indiana. Today, we start the event analysis with a stats story.
Four prospects were able to run sub-7.00 60 yard dashes. Teammates (Marian Catholic) Pierce Jones and Cameron Bufford led this group with times of 6.83 and 6.96, respectively. Mason Hsieh-Bailey posted the top time by a 2020 at 6.96, 0.03 seconds better than Mathew Birtman.
A trio of prospects top our fastball velocity leaderboard. The lanky Joel Holtcamp, physical Chandler Kerr, and wiry-framed Ethan Alexander all topped out at 83 mph.
Parker Mathieson had, arguably, the top statistical performance. The athletic Mathieson posted a 94 mph exit velocity. Coming in just behind him was Brandon Lucero at 92 and Joel Holtcamp at 90.
Kyle Wisch reared back on the infield portion, topping out at 90 mph across the infield. Not surprsing, Mathieson posted the second best velocity at 83.
Once again Mathieson posted the second hardest velocity from the outfield at 85 mph. Vince Borrelli takes home the top spot at 87 mph.
Nathan Sanchez was hopping behind the plate as he earned the events top pop time at 2.07, edging out Derrick Dawson by 0.01 seconds. Brandon Lucero was the most consistent catcher as his pop times were all between 2.15 and 2.19.
It should come as no surprise that the top catcher velocities belong to the three catchers who posted the best pop times, in the same order.
