Top-10 Profiles of 2019: No. 7 Kendal Ewell

By Andy Sroka
Staff Writer, Associate Scout

For the second consecutive day, a former Marist outfielder is tabbed for a spot on the Top-10 profiles of the year. This time it’s Kendal Ewell, now of Eastern Kentucky, who comes in with the No. 7 most-viewed profile of 2019.

Also like his former teammate Jason Hodges, whom we covered yesterday, Ewell was selected in the MLB Draft. He heard his name called in the final round by the Rockies which made for an easy decision to opt for college ball in Richmond, Ky., instead. The fact that Ewell was drafted at all is an enormous credit to the diligent work the long-limbed, 6-foot-3 athlete put in. Ewell was consistently a name to know in the state for his high upside with tools that would pop in showcase settings. In 2019, he combined those off-the-charts tools with in-game performance and it landed him on must-see lists for the pro scouting community. He participated in February's Super 60 showcase where he put together arguably the most impressive set of tools at the event; he ran a 6.53 60, was 94 mph from the outfield, registered a 102 mph exit velocity and showed easy raw power in BP.

Ewell’s ceiling is sky high and he’ll spend the next few years sharpening his exciting toolset with the Colonels.

Eastern Kentucky commit, currently ranked No. 4 in the state and No. 104 overall. Has drawn pro interest this spring. 6-foot-3, 195-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder; highly-advanced, athletic, well-proportioned frame with plenty of room for continued physical development. One of the toolsiest, high-ceiling prospects in the state. Had a huge day offensively for the Redhawks. Went 4-for-4 with a three-run home run, a triple, five RBI’s and a run scored.
