Top Prospect Games - St. Louis: Outfield Analysis

On Tuesday, June 5, Prep Baseball Report Missouri/Illinois held the Top Prospect Games - St. Louis at Southern Illinois Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Illinois.  Sixty-six players from around the region participated. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today we take a closer look at the oufielders from the event. 

Below we ranked the Top 5 outfielders as well as the best of the rest from the day. Three intriguing right-handed hitters from Missouri made the list while two left-handed hitters from Illinois made their way in as well. 

Here is a closer look at the outfielders from the Top Prospect Games - St. Louis on June 5:

TOP OUTFIELD PROSPECTS

1. Jake Grauberger, OF, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2019
Grauberger is an athletic and strong 5-foot-10 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.77 home to first and has a 94 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, starts with a thin stance, smooth load, short stride, quiet hands, aggressive swing with quick bat speed, showed pull side power with gap to gap approach.  In the outfield, 87 mph positional velocity, works behind the ball, over the top release, attacks the ball with quick transfer, throws are mostly accurate with carry.

2. Kyle Hetherington, OF, Crystal Lake South, 2019
5-foot-10, 170-pound, athletically-built, left/left outfielder. Prospect that has been on the rise since the spring. At the plate, possesses sneaky power; hit a home run over the right-field fence in game play. Also, showed the ability to shorten up with two strikes. On a tough left/left matchup took a pitch away and drove a single to left field. Finished the day 2-for-3. Open setup, smooth load and toe-tap stride. Loose, athletic hands, creates bat speed. 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, natural outfield actions, ability to play all three outfield spots. Fluid footwork, aggressive routes, soft hands and works through the baseball athletically. Loose arm action, accurate arm and throws topped at 85 mph. Follow 2019 outfielder.

3. Parker Mathieson, OF/INF, Normal U-High, 2019
5-foot-11, 175-pound, left-handed hitting multi-positional prospect, athletic build, wiry strength. At the plate, open, athletic setup, short stride, fluid rhythm and maintains balance throughout. Simple swing, quick-twitch, fast bat, natural lift, gap-to-gap, spray approach. 91 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, worked out in the outfield and on the infield. In the outfield, fluid footwork, works through the baseball, long arm action, high ¾ slot. Throws flash carry, accurate and clocked at 82 mph. On the infield, steady hands, clean release and can play on the move. Throws topped at 78 mph. 4.43 home-to-first and was slow getting out of the box.

4. Brady Voss, OF, Liberty-Wentzville (MO), 2019
Voss is a long and lean 6-foot 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.69 home to first and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, leg kick, aggressive swing showing pull side power, fast bat speed, no wasted movement in hands, repeats.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, long take away with smooth glove to hand transfer, attack the ball working through the catch, mostly accurate throws with carry.  Plenty of room on bulld for physical development.  

5. Zachry Hanlan, OF, St. Joseph Central (MO), 2019
Hanlan is a well-built and strong 5-foot-10 205-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.69 home to first and has a 93 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, smooth lower half load, quiet hands, short in line stride, quick hands, feel for the barrel, power to middle of the field, strong levers, swing is a combination of power and control.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velocity, loose over the top arm slot, creates momentum with feet after the catch, fluid and clean exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Jake Beauchamp, OF, Raymore Peculiar (MO), 2019
Beauchamp is a 6-foot 145-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.68 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing with no wasted movements, short to the ball, sprayed ball to both gaps during hitting evaluations, balanced swing, stays under control with feel for the barrel.  In the outfield, 86 mph positional velocity, fluid and athletic actions, clean transfer with over the top arm slot, works through the catch, accurate throws with carry.

Joseph Daneff, OF, Park HIll (MO), 2019
Daneff is a 5-foot-10 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 5.07 home to first and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, starts slightly loaded in back side, in line stride, no wasted movement in hands, level path, gap to gap line drives, stays under control.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, works behind ball, fluid transfer, gains ground after the catch with footwork, 83 mph positional velocity, mostly accurate throws.  

Derrick Evers, OF, Tointon Catholic (MO), 2019
Evers is a 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.36 home to first and has an exit velocity of 86 mph.  At the plate, starts with wide base, weight shift to back side to load, aggressive to the ball, level swing path, quick bat speed, gap to gap approach.  In the outfield, 83 mph positional velocity, over the top release, small crow hop, fluid and clean exchange with momentum through the catch, mostly accurate throws.

Adam Lewis, OF, Francis Howell North, 2019
Lewis is a physical 6-foot-5 210-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.75 home to first and has a 92 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, loads in lower half to back side, minimal hand movement, strong hands control the bat head, slightly high finish, mostly middle to pull contact, flashing pull side power.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velocity, takes route behind the ball, quick glove to hand transfer, arm works from over the top arm slot, plays though the ball, mostly accurate throws.

Brandon Mason, OF/INF, Cleveland State JC, 2016
5-foot-10, 170-pound, switch-hitting, outfielder/infielder. Unsigned sophomore from Cleveland State JC in Tennessee. Ran a 4.26 home-to-first from the left side. At the plate, balanced, quiet setup, smooth load and maintains balance throughout. Short, quick swing, occasional quick-twitch. 88 mph exit velocity from the right side and 89 mph from the left. Defensively, natural outfielder. Quick feet, plays through the baseball, clean transfer. Short, quick arm action, throws were accurate, carry and clocked at 90 mph. Also, worked out on the infield. Quick, active feet, works through the ball and throws clocked at 86 mph.  

Tony Mosher, OF, Plainfield South, 2019
5-foot-9, 205-pound, outfielder with a compact, strong build. Offensively, right-handed hitter, balanced slightly open setup, short stride and finishes on his backside. Flat bat path, short to the ball, line-drive, pull approach and present bat strength. Made a lot of hard contact during BP. 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, short, quick arm action, high ¾ to over-the-top slot, above-average arm strength, topped at 90 mph. Plays through the baseball, quick exchange at times.

Nick Orr, OF, Marquette (MO), 2019
Orr is a strong 5-foot-11 195-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.72 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, smooth load to back side with weight shift, minimal load in hands, short strides, stays under control, mostly middle to pull side contact during hitting evals, level swing path.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, fluid actions to the ball, creates momentum with feet after the catch, clean transfer, mostly accurate throws, 73 mph positional velocity.

Jack Schmitt, Lafayette (MO), 2019
Schmitt is a lean and long 6-foot-1 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.69 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and thin set up, leg kick, slight lift to swing path, mostly pull side contact during during hitting evals, long levers, showing some pull side pop.  In the outfield, 83 mph positional velocity, short high three quarters arm slot, quick transfer with momentum through the ball, fluid acceleration, mostly accurate throws.  

Mark Shallenberger, OF, Priory, 2019
Shallenberger is a strong and well-built 6-foot-2 195-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.61 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, consistent hard contact with gap to gap approach, more power to pull gap, starts with weight in back leg, attacks ball, loose hands generate quick bat with level plane.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, plays through the ball, aggressive with clean exchange, 83 mph positional velocity.

Nathan Walker, OF, Carrollton, 2019
6-foot-1, 175-pound, athletically-built, right-handed hitting outfielder. Ran a 4.29 home-to-first. At the plate, balanced setup, pre-pitch load, active feet, toe-tap stride and average balance through contact. Level path, middle of the field approach. 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, attacks the baseball at times, steady hands, clean transfer. Short, high ¾ arm action and throws topped at 82 mph.
