The Underclass Showcase took place on Sunday, October 22 at the MAX in McCook, IL. This event featured over 100 prospects from the 2020 and 2021 Classes, who participated in a pro-style workout in front of the PBR Illinois Scouting Staff. Yesterday, we started the event anaylsis with a Quick Hits story. Today, we continue the event anaylsis with a look at the top statistical performers.
From a numbers stand point, there was a collection of prospects who really stood-out. Jacob Mote (Normal University, 2020) continued to show why he is one of the top 2020s in the state of Illinois, currently ranked No. 12. Similarly, Tre Hondras (Homewood-Flossmoor, 2020) had a comparable day to Mote, as the two battled it out for top statistical performer in multiple events.
One cannot mention Mote and Hondras in the same sentence without having to give notice to Tom Jurack (Hinsdale Central, 2020) and the day he had at the plate and at multiple positions in the field. On the mound, it was Cooper Herold (Minooka, 2020) who keeps improving his stock, running his fastball up to 85 mph.

Right from the get-go it was Hondras and Mote, with Hondras just edging out Mote in the 60 at 6.80 seconds, compated to 6.89. It should not go unnoticed that Alan Brown (Oak Park-River Forest, 2020) and Tommy Kelly (Peoria Notre Dame, 2020) each ran a 6.97 60.
Minooka looks to have a bright future on the mound with Herold and Kyle Walter (Minooka, 2020) topping out at 85 and 83 mph, respectively. Two other live arms from the day belong to Ernie Day (Taft, 2020) and Ben Vitas (Providence Catholic, 2020).
Mote, Hondras, and Jurack, in that order, proved they have present strength at the plate. It is worth noting that Alejandro Holguin (St. Rita, 2021) recorded a 92 mph exit velocity. He is one of two members of the Class of 2021 at this event to make a leaderboard.
Mote showed off his arm strength during the defensive portion of the workout, being clocked at 87 mph. Not to be out down, Vitas, one of the top arms on the mound, proved his arm strength translates to the field, posting an 87 mph throw across the infield. Familiar names litter the rest of this leaderboard with Jurack, Holguin, and Day making it.
Jurack opened things up from the outfield, recording the top velocity at 87 mph. Marc Babicz (St. Laurence, 2020) fell just short of Jurack at 86 mph.
Isaac Crabb (Harrisburg, 2020) posted the top pop time at 2.03 seconds. Nicholas Hemken (Edwardsville, 2020) came in just behind at 2.05. Of the top catchers, Crabb was statistically the most consistent.
Part of what can be attricubuted to Crabb and Hemken hacvng the top pop times is their velocity out of the crouch, in which both were clocked at 77 mph.
