Prep Baseball Report Missouri held the 2015 Underclass Games at the University of Missouri on June 16 and June 17.  Nearly 90 of the top players in the 2017 and 2018 class attended.  The group was divided into three sessions, with two session on June 16 and one session on June 17.  Profiles have be updated with times, velos and videos.  The games portion of the event can still be viewed on STL Sports Productions. The June 17 games were rained out.

Today we will break down the Middle Infielders Analysis from both days.  The middle infielders are listed in alphabetical order. In the days to come we will break down Outfielders and Pitchers. Overall rankings will be updated shortly after the analysis of each position.

Infielders

Alex Adams, SS, Lafayette, 2018
Adams is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound right hand-hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.27. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Alex has fluid footwork and a clean exchange. His position velo was 72 mph. At the plate, Adams has an athletic setup with a back load. Alex has a swing that produces up the middle line drives. His exit velo was 80 mph.

Cade Chiles, SS. Warsaw, 2017
Chiles is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound right hand-hitting middle infielder in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.37. High 3/4 arm slot, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange, plays through the ball. Position velo of 68 mph.  At the plate, Chiles has an athletic setup with a smooth load. Simple swing produces gap-to-gap line drives, short stride. Exit velo at 71 mph.

Drew Dempsey, 2B/SS, Westminster, 2018
Dempsey is a 5-foot-7 135-pound left-handed hitting 2B/SS in the 2018 class from Westminster Christian Acadamy.  Dempsey runs a 7.60 60 and has a 74 mph exit velo. With the bat, Dempsey loads into back leg, with a toe touch on the front foot.  He had consistent solid contact to the middle of the cage during batting practice, level path to extension.  On the infield, quick feet, fields ball in athletic position, clean exchange, long arm swing, plays through the ball, accurate throws, 71 mph positional velo.

Jackson Dierenfeldt, SS, Staley, 2018
Dierenfeldt is a 5-foot-7, 115-pound right hand-hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.63. High 3/4 arm slot, short arm action, great hands, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange. Position velo of 68 mph.  At the plate, Dierenfeldt has an athletic setup with a back load. Simple swing produces line drives, sprays all over the field, needs strength. Exit velo at 75 mph

Donovan Ditto, SS, SLUH, 2017
Ditto is a 5-foot-8, 155-pound right hand-hitting middle infielder in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.20. At the plate, Ditto has a balanced athletic setup with a smooth load. The bat path stays level with good extension. His swing produces line drive up the middle. Donovan’s exit velo was 75 mph.

Branden Harder, SS, Nevada, 2018
Harder is a 5-foot-9, 145-pound switch hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.35. Over-the-top arm slot, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange, athletic actions. Position velo at 76 mph.  At the plate, Harder has an athletic setup with a smooth load. Swings from both sides produce line drives, middle approach. Exit velo right 81 mph, left 79 mph.

Brett Hammit, SS/2B, Nixa, 2018
Hammit is a 6-foot-2 160-pound right-handed hitting SS in the 2018 class from Nixa.  Hammit hits with leverage, using a leg kick and fast bat speed, showed power to the pull gap during batting practice, stays balanced with an aggressive swing.  On the infield, Hammit has a three-quarters release and 77 mph positional velo.  He has quick feet and clean exchange, loose arm action and made mostly accurate throws.  Hammit is a player to follow in the class of 2018.

Nick Herrenbruck, 2B, CBC, 2017

Herrenbruck is a 5-foot-7 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in the 2017 class.  Herrenbruck has a 79 mph exit velo and runs 7.16 60.  At the plate, open stance, long stride, minimal hand movement, level bat path, balance throughout swing, line drive approach, gap-to-gap.  On the infield, Herrenbruck has a positional velo of 70 mph, over-the-top release, fluid footwork, clean exchanges.  He made all the plays during defensive evals, mostly accurate throws.

Andrew Houston, 2B/SS, Raymore Peculiar, 2017
Houston is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed hitting 2B/SS in the 2017 class from Raymore Peculiar.  Houston, is athletic and strong, runs a 6.78 60 and has an 84 mph exit velo.  He has an open set-up with a toe touch, short to contact, with pop to the pull gap.  On the infield, Houston has a 79 mph positional velo, quick feet, clean exchange, over-the-top release, momentum to first base after the catch, accurate throws.

Aaron Klar, SS, Vianney, 2018
Klar is a 5-foot-7, 145-pound left-hand hitting middle infielder in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.80. He throws from an over-the-top arm slot and has good actions. Aaron has fluid footwork and a clean exchange. His position velo was 72 mph. At the plate, Klar has an open setup with a smooth load. He stays inside the ball with a level swing that produces middle/oppo line drives. Aaron could benefit from more strength. His exit velo was 67 mph.

Nick Logusch, SS, De Smet, 2017
Logusch is a 6-foot-0, 175-pound right hand-hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.48. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with easy arm action. Nick has fluid footwork and a clean exchange. His hands are smooth and he plays through the ball. His position velo was 77 mph. At the plate, Logusch has an athletic setup with an aggressive lower half. Nick has an advanced approach and a swing that produces gap-to-gap line drives. His exit velo was 88 mph

Trey McDaniel, SS, Greenville, 2017
McDaniel is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound right hand-hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.35. High 3/4 arm slot, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange, good carry on throw. Position velo was 81 mph.  At the plate, McDaniel has a crouched setup with a smooth load. Swing produces line drives, middle/oppo approach, projectable strong frame. Exit velo was 85 mph

J.T. Mabry, SS, DeSmet,SS, 2018
Mabry is a 5-foot-7, 130-pound switch hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.78. Over-the-top arm slot, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange, athletic actions. Position velo was 67 mph.  At the plate, Mabry has an open setup with a smooth load. Swing produces line drives from both sides, smooth rhythm, needs strength, left side swing  is a little ahead of right side swing. Exit velo was right 67 mph, left – 73 mph.

Brendan Meissner, SS, Lindbergh, 2018
Meissner is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound right-hand hitting middle infielder in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.45. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and good actions. Brendan has fluid footwork and a clean exchange. His position velo was 73 mph. At the plate, Meissner has an athletic setup with a smooth load. His swing is a little long and stays level through the zone. Brendan’s swing produces middle/oppo line drives. His exit velo was 79 mph.

Ian Meyer, SS, Monett, 2017
Meyer is a 6-foot-0, 180-pound right hand-hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.84. High 3/4 arm slot, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange. Position velo at 78 mph.  At the plate, Meyer has an athletic setup with a smooth load. Swing produces line drives, middle approach, projectable frame. Exit velo was 80 mph

Joshua Miller, Chanute (KS), 2017
Miller is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound right hand-hitting shortstop in the Kansas 2017 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.19. High 3/4 arm slot, long arm action, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange. Position velo – 73 mph.  At the plate, Miller has a balanced setup with a smooth load. Swing produces line drives, some swagger in approach. Exit velo – 84 mph

Jarrett Newell, SS, Jackson, 2017
Newell is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound right hand-hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 60 time of 6.99. High 3/4 arm slot, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange, plays through. Position velo at 75 mph.  At the plate, Newell has an athletic setup with a smooth load, strong lower half. Swing produces line drives, middle approach, level bat path. Exit velo at 84 mph

Jaxon Passino, SS, Rockwood Summit, 2017
Passino is a 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop from Rockwood Summit in St. Louis.  Passino runs an 7.12 60 and has an 88 mph exit velo.  Passino has a tall stance with small stride, minimal load, level path to extension, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, athletic actions, quick feet, momentum towards 1B, high-three quarters release, soft hands, accurate throws. 80 mph positional velo.

Douglas Payne, 2B, Cuba, 2017
Payne is 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder from Cuba in the 2017 class.  Payne posted one of the top 60 times of the event at 6.78 and has an exit velo of 82 mph.  Payne starts from a balanced position at the plate with a long stride, slightly uphill in shoulders, loose hands, middle-top-opposite field approach.  During infield evals, over-the-top lease, clean arm action, quick release, fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws, 79 mph positional velo.

Tanner Phipps, SS, Lamar, 2017
Phipps is a 5-foot-7 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop from Lamar in the 2017 class.  Phipps has a 7.28 60 time and an 80 mph exit velo.  At the plate, starts from an open stance, short stride, used mostly pull side line drives during batting practice. On the infield, over-the-top release, 77 mph positional velo, loose arm action, accurate throws, fluid footwork.

Nicholas Schmidt, SS, Holt, 2018
Schmidt is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound right-hand hitting shortstop. He ran a 60 time of 7.70. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Nicholas has fluid footwork, good hands, and a clean exchange. His position velo was 77 mph. At the plate, Schmidt has an open setup with a smooth load. He has a level swing that produces line drives, middle-to-pull side. Nicholas has a projectable frame with plus power potential. His exit velo was 82 mph.

Kyle Swope, 2B, Kearney, 2017
Swope is a 5-foot-8 155-pound right-handed hitting 2B/SS in the 2017 class from Kearney.  Swope runs a 7.40 60 and has an 84 mph exit velo.   Swope starts in balanced set up, toe tap, quick hands, swing works to inside of baseball, balanced throughout swing.  During defensive evals, over-the-top release, fluid footwork, clean exchange, plays through ball, accurate throws, 72 mph positional velo.

Mark Vierling, SS, CBC, 2017
Vierling is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in the 2017 class from CBC.  Vierling runs a 7.15 60, and posted one of the top exit velo’s of the event at 91 mph.  Vierling has smooth load from an athletic stance, linear stride, fast bat speed, level through the zone, consistent hard contact during batting practice, ability to drive ball to both gaps, uses back leg for power.  On the infield, had one of the top infield velos of the day at 83 mph. Over-the-top release, momentum towards first base, plays through the ball, clean exchange, quick footwork, arm works from different slots.

Jared Wilson, SS, Platte County, 2017
Wilson is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in the 2017 class from Platte County.  Wilson runs a 7.28 60 and has an 82 mph exit velo.  Offensively, Wilson has a balanced stance, smooth load, and lands square with front foot.  He has loose hands and level path.  During defensive evals, Wilson had an 82 mph positional velo, one of the top for the event.  He has an over-the-top release, soft hands, quick exchange, loose arm, mostly accurate throws.

Nick Wiley, 2B, Lindbergh, 2B, 2017
06/16/15 – Wiley is a 6-foot-0, 155-pound right hand-hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.96. High 3/4 arm slot, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange. Position velo at 72 mph.  At the plate, Wiley has an athletic crouched setup with a long stride. Level swing produces gap-to-gap line drives, needs strength, fast bat speed. Exit velo at 75 mph.

Alex Wimer, SS, Hallsville, 2018
Wimer is a 5-foot-8, 140-pound right hand-hitting middle infielder in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.63. Over-the-top arm slot, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange. Position velo at 66 mph.  At the plate, Wimer has a crouched setup with a smooth load. Swing produces line drives, middle approach, needs strength. Exit velo at 72 mph

Nick Wohlbold, SS, Rock Bridge, 2017
Wohlbold is a 6-foot-0, 190-pound right hand-hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 60 time of 6.91. High 3/4 arm slot, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange, athletic actions, good carry on throw. Position velo at 83 mph.  At the plate, Wohlbold has an athletic setup with a smooth load. Swing produces gap-to-gap line drives, pull power, projectable frame. Exit velo at 88 mph

Grant Wood, SS, Jefferson City, 2017
Wood is a strong 5-foot-11, 170-pound right-hand hitting middle infielder in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 60 time of 7.29. He throws from an over-the-top arm slot and has great actions. Grant has quick footwork and a clean exchange. His position velo was 81 mph. At the plate, Wood has an open setup with a smooth load. He takes an aggressive hack, fast hands, with a level swing that produces gap-to-gap line drives. Grant has a projectable frame with plus power potential.  His exit velo was 90 mph.
