PA Director of Scouting

The 2015 Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase took place on July 1 at War Memorial Field on the campus of Ephrata High School. Our rundown of the participants wraps up today with the 10 right-handed pitchers in attendance.

Right-handed pitchers

Jonathan Davis, RHP, Governor Mifflin, Class of 2016

6-foot-2, 220-pound right-handed pitcher sat 72-74 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some hip coil and solid balance throughout his delivery. Curveball sat 66-68 with 11/5 rotation. 70 mph changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed an displays some cut action. Davis also commanded a 68 mph knuckle ball that he throws regularly as part of his four-pitch mix.

Avery Eddy, RHP, Hughesville, Class of 2016

6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed pitcher sat 84-86 from a 3//4 arm slot with sinking action on his four-seam fastball and some arm side run to his two-seamer. A quick arm and strong lower half indicate additional velocity is likely. 76 mph curveball has cutter action and Eddy lacked command of the pitch on this day. High follow in this class will need to add a changeup and continue to harness the slider to make next jump. Fastball will get outs at next level currently and should continue to get better.

Lawrence Kirk, RHP, Class of 2016

6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed pitcher sat 77-79 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some hip coil to his delivery. A concentration on getting over front leg and finishing pitches would lead to immediate velocity gains. Kirk also displayed a 67 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a 74 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed.

Cameron Michaud, RHP, Spring-Ford, Class of 2016

5-foot-10, 140-pound right-hander sat 79-81 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some hip coil to his delivery and arm side run. Smallish frame with a loose, quick arm. 71 mph curveball is a next level breaking ball that showed hard biting 11/5 rotation. 75 mph changeup is thrown at fastball arm speed and shows heavy arm side run. Uncommitted senior commanded three quality pitches and showed athleticism throughout his delivery.

Isaac Wengert, OF/RHP, Northern Lebanon, Class of 2016

6-foot, 175-pound primary outfielder. Sat 79-81 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Wengert also displayed a 67 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation, a 70 mph slurve with 10/4 rotation and 74 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed with some arm side run.

James Meals III, RHP, Downingtown West, Class of 2017

6-foot-3, 215-pound right-handed pitcher sat 82-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some arm side run to his fastball. Solid balance throughout delivery and repeatable mechanics indicate additional velocity gains are likely. Meals also displayed command of a 73 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a 75 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed with some late sink.

Aidan Welch, RHP, Roman Catholic, Class of 2017

6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed pitcher sat 79-81 from a 3/4 arm slot with some arm side run to his fastball. Welch flashed two breaking balls that he threw consistently fro strikes. His 66 mph curveball showed 11/5 rotation while a 70 mph slider had a later, shorter break. Welch also displayed a 71 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed.

Tyler Arnold, SS/RHP, William Tennent, Class of 2019

5-foot-10, 140-pound primary middle infielder sat 67-68 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Arnold also displayed a 58 mph curveball with 10/4 rotation and a 60 mph changeup. The incoming freshman should see steady velocity improvements on all pitches as he adds strength and continues to mature physically.

John Deenis, SS/RHP, St. Joseph's Prep, Class of 2019

5-foot-9, 135-pound primary middle infielder sat 72-74 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Deenis displayed a loose arm and arm side run to his fastball. 66 mph curveball showed 11/5 rotation and 70 mph changeup was thrown at near fastball arm speed with late arm side run.

5-foot-9, 140-pound primary position players sat 76-78 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Exhibited good balance throughout delivery and remains directional. Curveball showed 11/5 rotation at 62 mph and 69 mph changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed.
