Team PA Future Games Preview: Position Players

Ted Williams
VP Scouting/Content

We're now just a week away from the biggest event of the year, where the keystone state's top 2025's and 2026's will gather in Atlanta, GA for the 2023 Prep Baseball Report Future Games. It was a hard process to reach this point, narrowing down invites after seeing nearly 600 players at the annual Pennsylvania State Games.

Updated schedule release HERE

Team PA's slate begins the afternoon of Wednesday, July 26 with a position player showcase. The much anticipated opener is set for the 27th in a 2022 rematch vs. Team Illinois before facing off with Team Midwest on Friday the 28th. Gameplay wraps up the following day at 2:00PM against an always competitive Team Ohio squad.

Below is a comprehensive preview of what to expect amongst our finalized position player roster.

CATCHER

Coy Allman C / RHP / Donegal , PA / 2025

The 2x Future Gamer added tangible muscle in the offseason and impacted the ball all spring with a career best in home runs. It’s a slightly rotational swing that matches plane all over the zone, generating mid-90’s exits with fun acceleration numbers. One of the state’s best behind the plate, Allman commands the game with maturity beyond his years and steals shadow pitches when receiving. He’s flexible enough to change stances and works hard to block the ball on either side using advanced technique. At 5-foot-10, 180-pounds, the arm (80MPH) gets up to top-speed quickly after a smooth exchange. Pop times hovered around 1.88-1.99 at multiple major events over the past year.

David McClain C / OF / West Chester Rustin, PA / 2025

We first saw McClain this winter at Ascent Scout Day, where he immediately stood out as a two-sport athlete (quarterback in football). His RH swing produced live barrel-whip through the zone and has since pushed into the mid-90’s (T94MPH) with natural feel for the sweet spot. Emerged a winner at #PAStateGames, finishing a home run short of the cycle during gameplay, then threw out multiple runners trying to steal. Pop times have bottomed out around 2.00 seconds with precision upper-70’s arm strength. Much like the rest of our team, this is a scrappy, but highly athletic player (5-foot-10, 180-pounds) capable of impacting the stat sheet daily!

Avery Smith C / 3B / Perkiomen School, PA / 2025

A past Junior Future Games attendee, Smith’s body has vastly changed over the years. The primary backstop stands an imposing 6-foot-2, 205-pounds and generates a strong/connected move that plays short-to-long for an extra-base hit approach. The hips are aggressive, yet know when to throw the brakes on, allowing for massive raw pull-side power. Exit velocities have reached as high as T98MPH, though there isn’t much effort needed. We’ve watched the defense skyrocket in the past six months, on target for a 1.96-2.04 pop at 81MPH out of the hand. Smith projects as a middle of the order bat at the next level with ability to clean up RBIs/situationally hit.

CORNER INF

Derek Smail 1B / RHP / Clarion Area, PA / 2025

Our only two-way prospect coming down to Georgia, Smail is fresh off of a state championship victory on the mound. It’s a durable, power frame at 6-foot-1, 235-pounds that shows equal strength from the right-handed box with a 99.4MPH exit velocity. A shoulder injury held him back some in 2022, but both a .538 AVG (43/80) and 4 home runs this spring point to a full recovery with maybe even more to come. The fastball has worked into the mid-to-upper 80’s, topping at 86MPH last weekend with a tight, 11/5 breaking ball to glove-side for strikes. Able to kill spin when he wants, future advanced CH feel in the tank.

Jack Thompson 3B / 1B / Central Bucks East, PA / 2025

An offensive name-to-note, Thompson drew rave reviews for his easy, yet loud batting practice round at #PAStateGames. It was even more impressive going back to watch the video post-event, as he barely broke a sweat for a T96MPH exit velocity. This leads to some fun expectations on the big stage for the 6-foot, 180-pounder, who can really turn the barrel. A quiet head should give him a chance to hit for additional juice down the road, while a newfound shift to first-base offers positional flexibility at either corner.

Tommy Kratz 3B / OF / Methacton , PA / 2025

There were few hitters that stood in with more confidence than Tommy Kratz all spring. We had eyes on a big mid-season matchup vs. eventual LHP draft pick Tristian Dietrich, where he went 1-2 + BB and looked the part. The metrics have always been great (92MPH exit), but it’s the in-game talent that should command attention. Absolutely evaporated a low-in 86MPH FB at #PAStateGames with a swing that’s conducive to hard all fields contact. Defensively, the profile can stick at the hot corner, though it could handle 2B if needed with similar success.

Owen Rozzi OF / 3B / West Chester East, PA / 2026

There’s one word fit to describe the 2026 LH hitter: adjustable. The primary infielder matched plane low-to-high at #PAStateGames with a triple off of the right field wall and a mature batting practice round that saw gap-to-gap power where it was pitched. Similarly, Rozzi showed off an instantaneous trigger, landing amongst the efficiency leaderboards (356FT at 5-foot-10, 175-pounds). The defense projects using choppy footwork and a soft glove-hand with a mid-80’s arm-strength across the diamond. His best baseball is ahead, as the offense will carry his stock further.

MIDDLE inf

Nolan Behm SS / 3B / Central Bucks High School East, PA / 2025

As a sophomore on a deep Central Bucks East group, Nolan Behm led the team in hitting at a .462 mark with 10+ extra-base hits. The body screams projection at 6-foot-4, 185-pounds, up 3+ inches over the past year! Still growing into his power with a T93MPH exit velocity and natural repeat towards a clean/whippy finish. Went 3-3 in game-action this spring when we were in attendance, then doubled off the LCF fence at #PAStateGames after 6.99 run. Extremely tooled-up with the ability to flash defensively as well (85MPH arm-strength, quality tracking skills).

Owen Hammond 3B / SS / Malvern Prep, PA / 2025

In an era where “playing the game” is sometimes overlooked, Hammond brings a refreshing skill set to the table. The 6-foot, 185-pound middle infielder broke 7.00 flat at a 6.94 60 yard-dash, then hit off the backside with a rotational turn into slot for a T93MPH exit velocity. Another gamer who finds another level when the lights come on, we’ve seen him pop up all over the national scene this summer for his offensive performances. There's some feel to hold down a shortstop role with sneaky range to the glove-hand side and an adjustable low-80’s arm-strength on the move.

Will Roth SS / RHP / Downingtown East, PA / 2026

Long and wiry with a frame that’s still young, Roth repeatedly got extended for centered contact at #PAStateGames. The 6-foot-2, 160-pounder stayed simple/balanced with a well-sequenced approach through the alleys, up to an easy upper-80’s exit velocity. Challenged among the top sweet spot leaders at 70%, then had (3) quality at-bats in-game on Showers Field, including a deep sac-fly to open scoring the final day. One of the more intriguing ceilings on Team PA and the feet/hands play equally as well defensively. Takes smart risks early in the routes and gets downhill for a low-80’s arm strength.

OUTFIELD

Jaidyn Rivera OF / RHP / The Haverford School, PA / 2026

A mainstay in one of the top Inter-Ac lineups this spring, Rivera proved to be an extra-base hit threat at 5-foot-9, 165-pounds. The RH hitter creates innate launch quickness through a flat, loose path with projection for more. Worked up to a T96MPH exit velocity at #PAStateGames (86 AVG) and left the yard once to the pull-side (356FT). Profiles as a future top of the order piece with a 6.91 run tool. Also plays running back on the gridiron in the fall! Tracks the ball naturally while an 85MPH arm gives him chances all over the outfield. Was a Junior Future Gamer in 2022.

Max Forgione OF / SS / Dunmore, PA / 2025

Ranked as the #1 outfielder in PA’s 2025 class, Forgione basically hits everywhere he goes. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is strong metrically with a 7.07 60YD, 89MPH arm-strength, and 95.4MPH exit velocity. His smooth, on-plane swing should draw attention, as it repeatedly gets through the ball with backspin/leverage to the big part of the field. It’s hard to be more direct from the LH box, highlighted by a bullet double to cap off his event at #PAStateGames. A lean, muscular frame suggests there’s better power numbers available in there, too.

Blake Umberger C / 3B / Hershey, PA / 2026

The primary catcher is also a special hockey player, drafted 131st overall in the USHL Phase I Draft back in May. First of all: the bat-speed was real at #PAStateGames! Turned on a pitch that was white chalk, inner-half and put it off of the party deck for the BP swing of the day. Really engaged the lower-half while transferring through the front side for a T96MPH exit velocity. Will pick up some outfield innings in-game for Team PA, though the defensive abilities should allow him to stick behind the plate if he chooses. Super athletic 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame.

Christian Barnes OF / OF / North Penn, PA / 2026

Incredibly twitchy at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds, Barnes moves so quick at times, it looks to be sped up on video. The 6.97 runner will continue to see that number trend downward, utilizing long, smooth strides that wreak havoc on the basepaths. Though the RH swing has some rawness to it, there’s no denying the pull-side juice and future offensive upside. Notched a T96MPH exit velocity at #PAStateGames, then tacked on two more hits during gameplay. Also made a couple plays on the run to the LCF gap that raised some eyebrows. Has been up to an 88MPH throwing arm!

Brady Hull OF / RHP / Eden Christian Academy , PA / 2026

One of the state’s hottest bats with home runs at both #PAStateGames and a #PBRVA tournament, Hull imparts torque on the handle for an upper-90’s exit velocity. The uber-physical 6-foot-1, 210-pounder owns a barrel-chested frame and doesn’t miss the FB in early counts. Going to be a young bat to follow at Lakepoint with ability to leave the yard on any pitch. Creates a big load window that plays similarly to MLB power hitters, i.e. Aaron Judge. Shows enough feel to defend at a corner at the next level with solid footwork.
