MOKAN Upperclass Games: Pitcher Analysis

The PBR MOKAN Fall Upperclass Games took place on Sunday, October 4th at Creekside Baseball Complex. The event featured over 50 prospects from the 2021 and 2022 classes. 

Over the last few days, we have released our position-by-position analysis with reports on the catchersoutfielders, and infielders. Today, we conclude our positional analysis by taking a look at the pitchers.

SCOUTING REPORTS

Justin Agnor RHP / Liberty, MO / 2021

On the mound, the right-handed pitcher has quick tempo with athleticism through his delivery. Uses a high leg kick and body coil with good direction down the mound. Has a clean, compact ¾ arm action. Fastball sat 74-78 mph with some arm-side run for strikes. Curveball has 11/5 break with good depth and tight spin, 67-69 mph. Changeup thrown with good arm speed and average fade action at 71 mph.

Nathan Bardsley RHP / 2B / Blue Valley West, KS / 2022

On the mound, the primary right-handed pitcher works from a rhythmic, repeatable tempo and a drop & drive delivery. Reaches an athletic balance point with good extension and direction down the mound, finishing on a strong front-side. Throws from a long, high-¾ arm action. Fastball sat 75-77 mph with occasional arm-side run, down in the zone. Curveball showed a big 11/5 shape with average depth and spin at 62-63 mph.

Will Bartkoski RHP / 1B / Veritas, KS / 2021

On the mound, the high-waisted right-handed pitcher has a consistent, repeatable rocker-step delivery with some projectability. Throws from a long ¾ arm action with good extension and use of his legs down the mound. Fastball showed an uptick in velocity at 77-83 mph, with slight arm-side run and downward action. Slider was thrown 67-70 mph with a consistent 10/4 break with average depth for strikes.

Ryan Borberg SS / RHP / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2022

On the mound, the right-handed pitcher works from a quick rocker-step delivery with accelerated actions down the mound. Lands square to finish with extension. Delivers from a clean, easy high-¾ arm action. Fastball jumps out his hand at 83-85 mph for strikes. Slider thrown at 70-71 mph with a tight 10/4 break. Changeup is thrown 76-77 mph with slight fade and good armspeed. Follow in the 2022 class.

Blake Davis 3B / RHP / Lee's Summit North, MO / 2022

On the mound, the right-handed pitcher uses a repeatable, drop-and-drive delivery down the mound. Finishes with momentum towards home, landing slightly closed. Throws from a quick ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat 74-78 T80 mph with straight action for strikes. Curveball showed 12/6 break with occasional depth at 66-67 mph. 

Carter DeGondea LHP / OF / Raymore Peculiar, MO / 2022

A lean, athletic 6-foot-0, 152-pound frame with solid projectability.. The left-handed pitcher uses a slow, methodical delivery with a repeatable tempo. Athletic balance point getting good direction and extension down the mound. Throws from a quick, high-¾ arm slot. Fastball flashes life and jumps out of the hand, 82-84 mph. Curveball has 1/7 break with average depth, 67-69 mph. Changeup shows good fade action down in the zone at 75 mph. Interesting arm to follow in 2022 class.

Anthony Fincher RHP / OF / Blue Valley, KS / 2022

On the mound, the right-handed pitcher uses a slow tempo tall-and-fall delivery when working out of the windup. Reaches a high balance point, wrapping his body before landing closed and finishing tall upon delivery. Throws from a long ¾ arm action. Fastball sat 77-78 T80 mph with some arm-side fade. Curveball sat 65-68 mph with a smaller 10/4 shape. Changeup showed some sink action at 67-69 mph.

Luke Fricker OF / RHP / Park Hill South, MO / 2022

On the mound, the projectable right-handed pitcher works from a repeatable rocker-step delivery reaching an athletic balance point. Lands square to home with good direction, occasionally falling off to his glove side. Has a quick, loose ¾ arm action that fills the zone with strikes. Fastball sat 83-87 mph keeps its plane for strikes. Slider has a small 11/5 shape, 72 mph. Changeup thrown firm with some fade at 78-79 mph. Should add velocity with added strength and maturity. 

Jacob Frost 1B / LHP / Oakville , MO / 2021

On the mound, the left-handed pitcher works out of a repeatable drop-and-drive delivery using his strong lower half to drive towards home plate. Reaches an athletic balance point, landing square to home with an athletic finish. Throws from a short high-¾ arm action with some arm speed. Fastball sat 83-85 mph with the ability to locate to both sides of the plate. Curveball sat 72-73 mph with tight 1/7 shape and solid depth. Changeup was thrown with good arm-speed and showed slight fade action, 79 mph.

Sam Gordley RHP / OF / Wentzville Liberty, MO / 2022

Lean 5-foot-10, 155-pound frame with room to fill out. Projectable right-handed pitcher who works out of a feel step-and-turn delivery. Athletic balance point, landing square to home and a balanced finish. Quick over-the-top arm action with low effort in his delivery. Fastball was consistently 82-84 mph with arm-side run for strikes. Curveball has tight 12/6 shape, 68-69 mph. Changeup showed straight action at 75-76 mph, thrown with good arm speed. Should continue to add velocity with increased strength and maturity.

Levi Martin OF / RHP / Olathe South, KS / 2022

Physical 6-foot-1, 195-pound frame with present strength and athleticism. On the mound, works from a slower-tempo rocker-step delivery reaching a consistent balance point. Lands square to home with a tall finish. Delivers from a short high-¾ arm slot. Fastball was 78-80 mph with straight action, consistently for strikes. Curveball sat 61-64 mph with 12/6 break and good depth.

 

Andrew Miller OF / LHP / Blue Valley West , KS / 2022

Lean 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame with present athleticism and room to add strength. On the mound, the left-handed pitcher utilizes a step-and-go delivery out of the windup with a repeatable balance point and landing square to home. Throws from a long-to-short high-¾ arm action. Fastball showed arm-side run, 73-75 mph, for strikes. Curveball has 1/7 break with average spin, 64-66 mph. Changeup sat 65 mph with fade action.

Joshua Newell SS / RHP / St. Charles West , MO / 2022

Athletic, projectable 6-foot-2, 173-pound frame with room to add size and additional strength. On the mound, the projectable right-handed pitcher works out of a repeatable rocker-step delivery landing square to home with good extension downhill. Hides the ball with a quick high-¾ arm action. Fastball jumps out of his hand, 84-86 mph, for strikes. Curveball has tight 12/6 break with some depth, 68-72 mph. Changeup sat 76 mph with fade action and developing feel. Interesting arm to follow in the MO 2022 class.

Caiden Otte OF / RHP / Troy Buchanan, MO / 2022

Lean 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame with athleticism and room to add size and strength. On the mound, the projectable right-handed pitcher works from a repeatable rocker-step delivery with good direction and extension down the mound. Strong front leg and good use of lower half to generate velocity. Throws with intent from a quick high-¾ arm action. Fastball sat 80-83 mph with slight arm-side run for strikes. Curveball shows tight 11/5 break with depth at 71-73 mph.

Justus Rowlett RHP / 2B / Baldwin City , KS / 2022

Lean 5-foot-11, 140-pound build with room to add strength. On the mound, the projectable right-handed pitcher displays a repeatable rocker-step delivery with a fluid tempo. Reaches a high balance point, landing square to home with good extension and a strong front side. Long, clean ¾ arm action. Ball seems to jump out of his hand. Fastball sat 76-79 T80 mph with slight arm-side run. Curveball has tight 10/4 break, 68-69 mph. Changeup has slight fade action, 74 mph, thrown firm with good arm speed. Should add velocity with added strength and maturity.

Colin Stanfield RHP / RHP / Liberty, MO / 2021

Physical 6-foot-2, 220-pound frame. The right-handed pitcher has a simple, repeatable rocker-step delivery with a slight body coil. Works quick, landing square to home with some tilt in his shoulders. Throws from a short, over-the-top arm slot. Fastball sat 76-77 T79 mph with straight action at a downhill angle, mostly strikes. Curveball has gradual 12/6 break , 67-69 mph. Changeup thrown with good arm speed and occasional fade, 70 mph.

Braden Tucker OF / RHP / Staley , MO / 2022

Lean 6-foot-1, 183-pound build with present athleticism. On the mound, the right-handed pitcher works out of a quick tempo rocker-step delivery. Reaches a consistent balance point, landing square to home with a tall finish. Delivers from a long to short ¾ arm action. Fastball sat 76-78 mph with some arm-side run. Curveball shows gradual 11/5 break, 67-69 mph. Changeup thrown firm with some fade, 70 mph. Mixed in a cutter at 73 mph with average action.

Michael Uhler RHP / Lawrence Free State, KS / 2021

Long, lean 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame with projectability and room to add strength. The right-handed pitcher works from a repeatable rocker-step delivery and controlled tempo, reaching a high balance point and landing square to home, finishing tall. Has a quick, clean ¾ arm action. Fastball sat 74-76 T78 mph with arm-side run for strikes. Curveball has a smaller 11/5 shape, average depth around the zone at 69-70 mph. Changeup shows good fade and sink at 71 mph.

Calvin Urish OF / RHP / Free State, KS / 2022

Lean, projectable 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame with present athleticism and room to add strength. On the mound, the right-handed pitcher has quick tempo with a step-and-turn delivery. Works downhill with a high balance point and tall finish. Shows some arm speed, throwing from a long ¾ arm action. Fastball sat 77-80 mph with occasional fade action. Curveball has 11/5 shape with average spin, 70 mph. 10/4 Slider with occasional depth, 73-74 mph. Changeup thrown firm with slight fade, 72 mph. 

Caden Wanless 3B / RHP / Liberty North, MO / 2022

Solid 5-foot-9, 215-pound frame with present strength. On the mound, the right-handed pitcher works from a repeatable rocker-step delivery. Consistent balance point with good direction down the mound. Delivers from a short ¾ arm action. Fastball sat 80-83 mph with arm-side run. Curveball has 11/5 break with occasional depth, 65-67 mph. Changeup shows fade and sink action, 75 mph.

Charlie Weber RHP / 3B / Chaminade College Prep, MO / 2022

Athletic, projectable 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame with present strength. The right-handed pitcher works from a fluid rocker-step delivery with an athletic balance point and landing square to home. Delivers from a long, loose ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat 83-84 T85 mph, jumping out of his hand with arm-side run. Sharp slider sat 69-70 mph with above average spin and depth. Changeup was 72-73 mph with heavy sink action. Arm to follow in MO 2022 class.

Matthew Will SS / RHP / Lee's Summit North, MO / 2022

Compact 5-foot-4, 148-pound frame with present athleticism. On the mound, the right-handed pitcher delivers from a quick step-and-turn delivery with a repeatable tempo. Lands slightly closed with a tall finish. Delivers from a long high-¾ arm action. Fastball sat 71-73 mph with straight action for strikes. Curveball at 64-65 mph with 11/5 break and occasional depth.
