Southern Wisconsin Open: Infielder Analysis

By Wisconsin Staff

On Oct. 17, the PBR Wisconsin crew traveled to STiKS Academy in Waukesha for its annual Southern Wisconsin Open event. This event was open to all high school classes and gave our staff one last chance to see these prospects in attendance prior to the start of the offseason. We published instant insight in the days following this event in the form of our Quick Hits and Statistical Analysis posts, and we began our position-by-position analysis this week, starting with the catchers and outfielders. We’re onto the infielders today.

The group below is a competitive one, led by sophomore Ethan Brown (Waukesha West, 2023). Brown’s budding strength helps him connect on consistent, impactful contact from the right side, and he produced one of the day’s louder rounds of batting practice. He looks like a future third baseman, with plenty of arm for the position, and increasingly smooth actions with room for growth. Brown ended the 2020 showcase circuit with a bang.

Freshman Colton Angell (Oshkosh North, 2024) also recorded a standout day, impressing in multiple facets. Inside a sturdy 6-foot-1 stature, Angell generates hard-hit contact for his age, with barrel feel, creating an offensive profile that looks like it seamlessly translates to in-game performance. Defensively, he moves around well for his size and age, and looks like another third base fit.

Three corner infielders came in ranked next to each other, each representing a different class: Tyler Butina (Jefferson, 2023), George Seaman (West Bend East, 2021), and Jackson Brewer (Homestead, 2024). Butina wields genuine pull-side pop from the left side; and both he and Seaman connected for the hardest-hit contact of the day. Seaman’s offensive metrics in the left-handed box were arguably the day’s most impressive. As for Brewer, he’s a good athlete with high physical projection – and he, too, swings a fluid lefty bat that he should grow into neatly.

For full scouting reports on each of the day’s infielders, continue on below.
