3/22/21

RHP Nick Hamlin (2021, Lawson State CC) has been one of the guys on the mound for a talented Oxford squad thus far, but this was my first look at him since the season began. Getting the start on Monday, Hamlin worked quickly and settled in nicely after the 1st inning. Worked anywhere from 83-86 mph to both sides of the plate against right-handed hitters. Tunneled that with a 79-81 mph changeup with the same arm action and intent as the fastball. Did flash a breaking ball that was a bit inconsistent, but used the changeup in late counts to get swings and misses. Only tossed three innings due to mercy rule and the game getting out of hand, but allowed three hits, two runs (zero unearned), a walk & punched out six hitters to earn the win.

1/18/20

By far, the best we have seen Hamlin as he took a very aggressive demeanor on the mound. The fastball showed some sink at times and at other times it showed cutting action. He was 85-87 throughout bumping 88 mph on the day. The breaking ball took nice shape with very late depth in the break at 73- 74 mph. The change up showed really nice arm side tumble and sink at 80-81 mph. A ton of potential in this ‘21 arm.

9/08/19

Hamlin impresses each time we see him. Has a tall. Slim build with plenty of room for physical development and strength but the mechanics are clean. The arm action is clean and he throws from a high ¾ slot. The FB was low 80’s (81-82) in his 1st inning of work but his 2nd inning of work saw him increase his velo and he was up to 83-84 mph. The FB showed some late life. The breaking ball has tight spin and he showed the ability to locate the pitch for a strike at 72-75 mph. The CH is legit now with serious tumble into RH hitters at 68-68 mph. A ton of potential in this ‘21 RHP.

6/25/19

Showed solid feel with all three pitches and was a ground ball machine on the mound during his two innings of work on the mound. Had a clean delivery from a mid ¾ slot and created a ton of ASR on his 2 seam FB. The FB sat mid 80’s and bumped 86 mph a few times and really stayed in the bottom half of the zone with this pitch. The breaking ball showed nice shape in the mid 70’s and the change up was mainly upper 70’s with tumble. A ton of potential in this ‘21 RHP.

4/28/19

Showed nice plane on the FB and really worked to get on top of this pitch. Really gets on top of the breaking ball which really creates some depth in the pitch and has tight spin. Quick to the plate out of the stretch. Simple, clean mechanics that will continue to add velo as the body matures. Really attacks the plate. FB was mid 80’s and touched 86 a few times. Does a nice job really driving off the mound and letting the arm work through the throwing motion.

1.20.19-  A 2021 RHP to keep an eye on. Showed loose arm action with a long and lanky body type. Will only progress as he adds weight and gets stronger.  The mechanics and feel are already present. Showed a plus change up that really created tumble at 71- 72 mph. The FB was up to 84 mph and he showed the ability to locate it down in the zone. A definite 2021 to follow

Starts with a small side rocker step and gets balanced over the rubber. Was able to command both sides of the plate and did a good job of creating downhill plane on all of his pitches. Effective use of his lower half. Fastball was up to 85 mph and constantly sat 82-84. Flashed a well shaped breaking ball at 74-76 mph with tight spin and late depth to hitters. Has time to add strength and weight to his 6’2 frame.
