Hit: LHH. Open, upright setup, toe-tap stride, coils hip and gains ground toward the mound into a long stride, slight bat tilt into foot strike. Loose, quick bat, plays with ease and rhythm. Intent to lift the ball up the middle and to his pull-side with some extension through impact. 69.8 mph bat speed with 17 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 83.6 mph. 355’ max distance.
Arm: LH. OF - 92 mph. Loose, athletic arm, clean arm path into a high 3/4 slot, ball jumps out of the hand.
Defense: Athletic actions, fluid footwork, breaks down before the ball, soft hands, one-hand gather to the side, fields with rhythm.
Run: 6.75 runner in the 60.

Delivery: Stretch only, slightly open front foot, high/athletic leg lift, slight coil with the upper half into balance point, slight drop/drive lower-half, strides in-line, easy operation with little perceived effort.
Arm Action: LH. Short arm circle, 3/4 release, some quickness out front.
FB: T91, 90-91 mph. Life through the zone with some carry at times, slight arm-side run, jumps out of the hand, low release height. T2287, 2237 average rpm.
CB: 79-80 mph. Sharp, tight 1/7 shape, missed up occasionally but had better depth down in the zone. T2126, 2101 average rpm.
CH: 85-86 mph. Deceptive arm-speed, kept down, heavy fade to the arm-side, flashed late dive. T1609, 1542 average rpm.

OF/LHP Brayden Mazzacano (Schaumburg; Illinois) is one of the premier two-way talents in the state. Currently ranked No. 7 in Illinois, Mazzacano is equipped with a fastball that can work up to 90 mph, and he can dissect opposing hitters with his wide variety of off-speeds; going to both a curveball and a slider, as well as a changeup and a splitter. On the other side of the ball, Mazzacano is an athletic defender in center field, covering ground easily with accurate reads off the bat, also reaching up to 90 mph from a crow hop. The left-handed hitter has routinely hit in front of our staff, and he can reach as high as 98.3 mph for his max EV while also reaching as high as 80.6 mph for his max bat-speed. Also a 6.82 runner in the 60, Mazzacano is a well-rounded prospect that should attract some pro attention for a number of reasons.

OF/LHP Brayden Mazzacano (Schaumburg, 2024; Illinois recruit) continues to look the part of a premier two-way prospect in the state’s senior class. Standing at a lean and athletic 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, there is plenty of upside left in his frame. He impressed on both sides of the ball Sunday, first finding the barrel against a left-handed breaking ball and launching it for a triple. Mazzacano then hopped on the mound for an inning in relief, sitting in the upper-80s and mixing in a slider with swing-and-miss traits.

One of the top, if not the top two-way in the state, LHP/OF Brayden Mazzacano (Schaumburg; Illinois commit) came away a major winner from the PBR circuit this past summer and now holds down the eighth slot on our board. The southpaw can run his fastball up to 90 mph to pair with a tight upper-70s slider, low-70s curveball and changeup in the upper-70s. He’s nothing to scoff at on the other side of the ball either, showing the ability to play both the outfield and first base. A 6.82 runner in the 60, Mazzacano has defensive versatility as well as present athleticism which should help his case on the mound as well. He also swings a loud left-handed bat that was routinely on the barrel in all of our looks this past summer.

+ Currently ranked No. 6 in Illinois, UTIL/LHP Brayden Mazzacano (Schaumburg, 2024; Illinois commit) continues to cement himself as one of the premier two-way prospects within the state. The southpaw is simple, yet athletic down the mound with little perceived effort. He worked his fastball up to 88.9 mph and cruised right at 84-88 mph with run and some finish through the zone. Slider and changeup looked to be his go-to offerings throughout our look; going to a 10/4 SL at 76-79 mph with the ability to land for some strikes and an upper-70s changeup with fade and feel for the zone. Flashed a 1/7 curveball at 73-75 mph and splitter at 74-79 mph with killed spin. Mazzacano took defensive reps both in the outfield and at first base, showcasing athletic actions at each position with the ability to track down fly balls when roaming the outfield. The left-handed hitter took an impressive round of BP, averaging 87.4 mph for his exit velocity and reaching up to 95.2 mph with a max distance of 363’. He put up some impressive numbers on BLAST across the board; averaging 22.8 mph for his hand speed (T26.1 mph), 74.5 mph for his bat speed (T80.6 mph) and 17.1 for his average rotational acceleration (T28.9). He has some rhythm in his left-handed swing, utilizing a controlled toe-tap timing trigger before firing through the zone with a flat path.

Power: 95 max exit velocity, averaged 87.4 mph. 363’ max distance.
Arm: LH. OF - 90 mph. Clean, accurate, throws on a line, 3/4 slot.
Defense: Active, precise feet, fields ball cleanly off front foot, smooth.
Run: 6.82 runner in the 60.

Mazzacano provided arguably the loudest pitching performance of the weekend. Super athletic 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame with room for added strength. Balanced and repeatable drop and drive delivery. Lively arm that played with acceleration out front. Attacked the zone with a fastball worked in the 87-89 mph range, T90 mph multiple times. Jumped out of the hand and had plenty of ride through the zone to miss barrels. Flashed out-pitch potential with tight upper-70s slider with late movement. One of the top left-handed pitchers in the class that should only continue to improve. Currently ranked No. 6 in the state and No. 278 nationally.

LHP/OF Brayden Mazzacano (Schaumburg, 2024; Illinois commit) opened our eyes last summer with his two-way abilities at a PBR At The Rock tournament. He committed shortly thereafter to Illinois and his prospect status does not look to be slowing down anytime soon. Currently the No. 12 ranked player in the class, Mazzacano, has some of the best two-way upside in the class. Offensively, he showed off a short, quick, twitchy left-handed swing, resulting in an event-best 92.4 mpg average exit velocity and T98.3, second-best. The 6.93 runner is also a natural in the outfield moving with quick, efficient feet, fluid actions and a strong arm that plays at 89 mph. That same arm strength plays just as well on the mound. He topped at 89 mph with the fastball and complimented it with a 75-78 mph slider that is thrown with feel/intent and a changeup that landed for strikes 60% of the time with an average of 15.7 inches of horizontal movement. He is a name to know in the 2024 class and looks to be just scratching the surface of his ceiling.

Arm: LH. OF - 89 mph. Short stab out of the glove, live arm that operates from a high 3/4 slot.
Defense: Smooth footwork. Sure handed with fluid actions, plays through the ball.
Run: 6.93 runner in the 60.

Delivery: Hybrid windup delivery with a gather step, athletic throughout the delivery, high leg-lift with some pace, extends out in-line.
Arm Action: LH. Short arm bar into a loose 3/4 slot.
FB: T89, 86-88 mph. Carry with feel for the top part of the zone. T2130, 2026 average rpm.
SL: 75-78 mph. Tight breaking, depth to the lower part of the zone. T2158, 2072 average rpm.
CH: 81-82 mph. Running action with feel for the armside. T1758, 1699 average rpm.

Mazzacano’s competitiveness and mound presence standout, and that paired with a highly projectable frame equate to one of the state’s highest ceilings on the hill. He’s pitching in the mid-80s with his fastball right now, peaking at 87 mph, and pounds the strike zone from a rhythmic, effortless motion downhill. Mazzacano also spun a tight 74-76 mph slider off his fastball’s plane, landing it around the zone with consistency. He’s certainly capable of rising up this list moving forward, slotting at No. 12 in this update.

LHP/OF Brayden Mazzacano (Schaumburg, 2024) debuts at 16th overall after an eye-popping performance at The Rock earlier this summer, committing to Illinois shortly afterwards. Mazzacano offers intrigue on both sides of the ball, comfortably tracking down baseballs in center field with an athletic left-handed stroke at the plate, too. He generated the most buzz on the mound, pumping strikes from a loose, clean arm with athletic movement patterns downhill. His fastball played at 84-86 mph, and he spun a slurvey-type breaking ball at 72-76 mph around the zone, too.
