5/29/25

Uncommitted, Houchens went 2-for-2 at the plate against Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond. He connected on a two-run home run in the first inning and finished the game driving in three runs.

4/28/25

Uncommitted, strong, physical build. Started on the mound and threw five innings, struck out three, walked two, allowed two runs and six hits. Simple mover on the mound, repeatable, small leg lift with tuck, tall and fall delivery down the mound. Showed a compact and quick arm action out of a ¾ slot. Showed a ton of fastballs in this look, sitting 82-85 mph, topping out at 86 mph with straight actions. Also mixed in a curveball at 70 mph with 11/5 shape. Also looked like a strong right-handed bat at the plate, batting cleanup for the Spartans. Finished the day 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Uncommitted name in the junior class.

4/12/25

Uncommitted. Physical 6-foot-2, 240-pound frame. Started at first and hit out of the four-hole. Houchens had the biggest hit of the day as he roped a ball down the left-field line for a two-run double to get St. Joseph-Ogden on the board. Wide stance with no stride. Showed pull-side power all game. Will give you his best swing ever at-bat. Defensively, held it down at first.

3/28/25

RHP, Bryson Houchens, St. Joseph-Ogden, 2026 Uncommitted. Started on the mound for the Spartans and hit out of the four-hole, striking out five over three innings of work and also showing big power potential from the right side. On the mound, the right-hander has a powerful delivery with intent downhill, creating a tough angle from a low ¾ slot. His fastball showed natural sink and run, playing around 81-83 mph - pairing well of his CH that showed similar characteristics in the mid-70s. At the plate, he has an intentful swing from the right side, showing easy bat-speed with some loud contact, finishing 2-for-3 with a double. He does not get cheated at the plate, getting his ‘A’ swing off routinely.

3/13/24

6-foot-2, 240-pounds. Started at first base and hit in the five hole for the Spartans. Short, strong right-handed swing that worked level through the zone with strength off the barrel. Doubled deep to center field in his first at-bat, bringing home a run. Stayed on a fastball and drove it back up the middle for a loud lineout his second at-bat. Hopped on the mound afterwards and navigated through the Eagles’ lineup, striking out six over 3 ⅔ scoreless innings of work, allowing just a hit. Stayed in the zone often with a low-80s fastball, touching 83 mph, that consistently played on the corners for strikes.

6/16/23

Houchens came in as relief, striking out four of the eight batters he faced. Fastball sat 77-80 mph with run through the zone. Slider was in the upper 60s and was thrown for strikes. Houchens also showed the ability to field his position, assisting the final two outs of his appearance with a 1-6-3 double play.
