Xavier commit RHP Drew Zemaitis (Providence Catholic) showed an uptick in velocity at the Preseason All-State, sitting 90-91 mph with a hard 80-81 mph curveball. He’s a sturdy 6-foot-2, 195 pounds and he showed a starter’s profile with three above-average pitches, including a hard sinking changeup to go along with similar characteristics on his fastball. Zemaitis’ 90.6 mph high was among the day’s best, and it averaged a spin rate of 2,419 rpm which did top the event.

Athletic, broad-shouldered, 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame. Came out of the bullpen in the final game of the Limited Series. Smooth operator, athletic and comfortable on the mound, delivery is repeatable, fluid and works with minimal effort. Seemingly having a game of catch on the mound. Everything comes out of the hand clean and easy. Fastball plays with arm-side-run, late jump through the zone, sat 80-81 mph; was 82-85 mph at the PBR Midwest Fall Championship. Slider is an advanced offering, 69-70 mph, 10/4 shape, tight spin, late two-plane action, (2384 RPM; has been 2500+). Showed a curveball, 11/5 shape, depth. High-follow 2023 right-handed pitcher.
Final Line: 3 IP, H, 3 K

Zemaitis came in to relieve Schlageter, mentioned above on this same list, and stole some attention. Standing at a physical, athletic 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Zemaitis has looked like a promising prospect in the past, but he ticked up this fall, it looks like, and now his arrow is skyward. The Providence Catholic sophomore was up to 77 mph at an event earlier this summer but he was sitting 82-85 mph at Grand Park. Just as notable, Zemaitis’ fastball was really carrying through the zone with spin rates measured in the 2,280 to 2,400 rpm range, excellent for the velocity he’s producing at this age. He can spin a slider just as tightly too, measured in the 2,500 rpm range. The size and stuff help check off a lot of boxes, so we came away from the event with Zemaitis on our follow list.
