On Monday, Feb. 17, the PBR Illinois team made its annual trip to the Bo Dome to host the Lockport Preseason I.D., the largest showcase on our calendar. Over two-hundred prospects participated, representing every high school level.

Soon following the event we released early analysis with our Quick Hits and Statistical Analysis. Monday marked the start of our position-by-position breakdown, with the catchers from the event. 

Today we continue the roll-out with a breakdown of the near 100 infielders from the day. With such a talented, large group, we were able to break up the rankings by grad class.

SS Matt Santarelli (Lockport) led the way when it came to 2021 infielders. Santarelli made huge strides to his game over the winter and had an impressive all-around performance. The athletic middle infielder ran a 6.88 60, was one of the top defenders on the day with a clean, strong arm (88 mph) and made a lot of hard contact at the plate. 

Physical, corner infielder Jimmy Rolder (Marist) is a name to watch in the 2022 class. Rolder has a chance to be a middle of the order threat with his right-handed bat and is a reliable defender who should have a chance to stick at third base.

2024 Cash Campbell (Montini Catholic) continues to show off one of the better left-handed bats we have seen in the class and profiles at a corner infield spot. Another young left-handed bat to be sure to follow is Ryan Nelson (Plainfield North, 2023). Nelson took one of the more polished rounds of BP on the day, routinely peppering line-drives to the big part of the diamond.

1. Matt Santarelli, Lockport (IL), 2021
Positional Profile: SS. An advanced defender that can stick up the middle moving forward.
