OF Rick Powell (McHenry, 2021) had one of the strongest rounds of BP on the day, reaching up to 97.4 mph for his max EV with an average of 93.4 mph. Strong right-handed stroke, flat path with intent to do damage. His BLAST metrics were impressive, averaging 22.6 mph for his hand-speed and 75.8 mph for his bat-speed. Turned in a .273 batting average last spring in 132 at-bats, including seven home runs and 31 RBIs. Smooth and confident actions in the outfield, playing through the ball with intent and steady hands. Arm played with noticeable life and carry through his target, topping out at 90 mph while consistently placing accurate throws on the bag.
Freshman right-hander standing 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. Formerly ranked No. 204 in Illinois’ 2021 class. Fastball sat 83-84 mph and worked up to 84.6 mph (T2343 RPM). Curveball sat 74-77 mph with 11/5 shape. Change worked in at 78-80 mph with slight fading action.

OF/RHP Rick Powell (McHenry): Powell is a strong, broad 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, and he uses it well from the right-handed batter’s box. Powell takes aggressive, violent swings with present bat speed and produced some of the day’s hardest-hit contact, per TrackMan, including a 95.6 mph high. Defensively, he projects as a corner outfield fit, but he has the traits to excel there, including arm strength that plays from the mound, too. Powell sat 83-84 mph (84.7 max) with a quick, loose arm that carried through the zone and his offspeed of choice looks like a short, firm breaking ball that fits more of a slider’s mold.

Arm: RH. OF - 86 mph. Long arm action plays loose and from an over-the-top slot.
Defense: Aggressive to the baseball, plays through in rhythm. Clean actions, reliable hands.

Hit: RHH. Open setup, bat starts rested on back shoulder, simple load, short stride. Athletic hands with raw strength, present bat speed, short and level path, swings with intent. Gap-to-gap approach, punished baseballs on the inner half, consistently on the barrel.
Power: 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. Recorded a max exit speed of 94.81 mph in BP with an average exit speed of 87.22 mph, per TrackMan.
Arm: RH. OF - 80 mph. Long and loose action, high 3/4 slot. Quick arm.
Defense: Quick and athletic feet, gets around the baseball, steady hands, length to release at times.
Run: 7.63 runner in the 60.

Body: 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. Athletic build, strength throughout.
Hit: RHH. Tall, balanced, quiet setup, minimal load and short stride. Swings with controlled aggression, fast bat, level path and consistent hard contact with the ability to backspin the baseball.
Power: 88 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Arm: RH. OF - 84 mph. Short arm action, over-the-top slot.
Defense: Gets behind the baseball, proper routes, plays through the baseball, steady hands and gains ground on exchange.

Delivery: Directional, tall and fall delivery, on-line square finish.
Arm Action: RH. Clean arm action, over-the-top window.
FB: T80, 76-78 mph. Thrown for strikes, works mostly straight with cut action at times.
CB: 69-71 mph. Maintains arm speed, sharp spin on a 11/5 plane and feel.
CH: 73-75 mph. Feel, sink and run action.

In Friday’s matchup between Pro Player Canes and Rhino (WI), Powell pitched a complete game, which only lasted 3 innings. The 5-foot-10, 157-pound right-handed pitcher gave up no runs and only one base hit. He has a long, loose arm action and throws from a ¾ slot. His fastball sat between 72 and 75 mph, and topped at 76 mph. His changeup showed some fade and sat from 67-69 mph. Curveball had 10/4 shape and was 64-66 mph. Powell added to his performance by hitting second in the lineup and recording a base hit.

Defensively, steady hands, clean exchanges, long at transfer. Arm action is long and loose out front, high ¾ slot, throws topped 81 mph from the outfield. 5.05 runner, home to first. On the mound, simple pre-pitch, heel lift balance, strides in-line, regular effort. Arm action plays long and loose, slight wrap, high ¾ slot. Fastball slight run, 73-75 mph. Curveball, 10/4 gradual break, 64-66 mph. Changeup played straight with some fade, 66-68 mph.
