OF Sammy Atkinson (Providence Catholic, 2026) had a loud showing throughout the week. He was all over the barrel in the workout with a 104 mph peak EV, averaging 95 mph. He continued to swing it well in-game, finishing 2-for-5 with two doubles three RBIs and a run scored. The right-handed hitter stays short to the ball with a twitchy, longer path through the zone with extension. 6.81 runner to pair with quality reads off the bat in the outfield.

Atkinson is a twitchy athlete at 5-foot-8, 156-pounds with room to still fill out the frame. The right-handed hitter is short and direct to the ball with an athletic swing, and tallied a big base hit in the top of the seventh, leading to Providence Catholic bringing in the winning run.

The right-handed hitter is scrappy in the box and got his A-swing off consistently in this look; working with a rhythmic load into a flat path that gets extension through the ball. Quick out of the box with a 4.39 down the line, aggressive on the basepaths, finished the day 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Moves well in the outfield, athletic strides that cover ground easily.

Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 66 in the state. The 5-foot-8, 156-pound sophomore played left field and batted out of the eight-spot in the order for the Celtics. Atkinson impressed with his overall patient approach at the plate on Thursday. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI, and two runs scored. He has an athletic and hitterish look about him in the box with a level swing path that creates extension at contact, and uses the whole field. Atkinson is a sophomore to continue to follow this spring.

Just like his two older brothers, MIF Sammy Atkinson (Providence Catholic, 2026) carries a natural feel to hit and top of the order upside down the road. A 6.90 runner, Atkinson sprayed line drives throughout his round of BP from a short, simple, and hitterish right-handed swing. Atkinson showed more juice than we’d seen from him in the past, barreling his hardest ball up at 94.1 mph, and his furthest traveled 331 feet, too. Defensively, he’s a quick mover with sure-handed actions and steady glovework that should stick somewhere on the infield dirt moving forward.

INF Sammy Atkinson (Providence Catholic, 2026) is the third Atkinson to come through the Illinois high school ranks in the last handful of years. Both older brothers have a knack for the barrel with power attached to it. Sammy, despite being listed at 5-foot-8, 165-pound, fits the same mold offensively as his older brothers and is a 2026 name to know moving forward. Atkinson, a right-handed hitter, swings with controlled intent, quick strong hands and gets all kinds of jump off the barrel, especially given his size. He creates above-average rotational acceleration and he peaked at 88.9 mph off the bat with his furthest batted ball traveling 322’. The 7.12 runner also played a steady infield, staying low to the ground with fluid hands and quick first step.
