2/2/14 - Lucas’ ascension as a national draft prospect continues to climb. His profile certainly aligns with what pro scouts seek: a left-handed hitting catcher with burgeoning power and a projectable, proportionally strong 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame with a live arm behind the plate. Offensively, Lucas is especially tantalizing, and he showed why at the Super 60. He demonstrated a balanced, level swing with easy gap-to-gap power and creates natural lift in his swing. He has strong wrists and the ball jumps off his bat with backspin carry with little effort. Similarly, when Lucas throws, the ball carries, seemingly accelerating as it nears the bag. He registered 80 mph from the crouch and pop times ranging between 1.92-2.00. Although Lucas lacks the receiving polish as some other draft prospects, the general thought is that can be taught/learned over time. His natural gifts, which seem to come easier to him than others, cannot. The Illinois State recruit also ran a 7.28 60.
