There has been a great deal of change to the PBR 2020 Overall Rankings since the last update. A full summer evaluation period, along with the introduction of more than 60 prospects from Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina, have allowed for the list to expand to 500 players. It is important to note that the PBR Overall Rankings only include states that we intimately know from our boots-on-the-ground scouting staff. With unmatched coverage nationally, and attention to detail from more than 100 scouts at the state level, the Prep Baseball Report is committed to being the premier source for all of amateur baseball.

The 2020 class built a strong reputation throughout the spring, and the summer acted as a proving ground, as many of the players elevated their status on a national stage against the best of the best in all classes. The elite level talent at the top stretches long, and the overall depth of the class has many scouts believing that it has a chance to be a special draft year.

A new No. 1 player has risen to the top, though multiple players were considered and have strong cases. OF Austin Hendrick (West Allegheny HS, PA), a Mississippi State recruit, gets the nod given his strikingly quick hands and strong wrists. The left-handed hitter has elite bat speed with present power, and stood out amongst his peers as well as those players in the 2019 class.

RHP Jared Kelley (Refugio HS, TX), a Texas Christian recruit, effortlessly ran his fastball up to 97 mph throughout the summer, and comfortably pounded the zone with a fastball that sat in the mid 90s. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-hander checks in as the top pitching prospect in the class, and No. 2 player overall.

RHP Victor Mederos (Pace HS, FL), a Miami recruit, continues to showcase his potential as a future starter with five pitches including a fastball that works 90-94 as well as a sharp slider at 80-82.

A two-way talent and Southern California recruit, RHP/OF Jared Jones (La Mirada HS, CA) has elite athleticism both on the mound and as a position player. Gifted with a quick, strong arm, Jones’ fastball rose to 97 mph this summer as he continued to aggressively challenge hitters with the pitch, and counter it with a sharp, 81-83 slider. He also possesses twitchy hands at the plate along with above average defensive ability in the outfield.

Rounding out the top five is the top defensive outfielder in high school. OF Pete Crow-Armstrong (Harvard Westlake HS, CA), a Vanderbilt recruit, was stellar all summer on a national stage. Athletic with a wiry, 6-foot, 175-pound frame, his feel for the barrel allows for easy lag in the zone, enabling gap-to-gap power. However, his impressive defensive work in the outfield, tracking down nearly everything, and combining that with a cannon for an arm, may be his most impressive asset on the diamond.

Overall, Florida continues to show its strength in producing prospects. Five of the top 10, and 10 of the top 50 hail from the Sunshine State. California tallies eight of the top 50 while Texas checks in with six. All in all, this class is shaping up to be special from coast to coast.

But enough talking about it, have a look for yourself:
