The spring season is underway and our analysis of the Madison Preseason I.D. continues with the top outfield prospects. Throughout the week we will be breaking down each position with complete scouting reports of players from the event. For our breakdown of outfielders we look at the top outfielders in each graduating class, starting with juniors.

Here’s a look at the top infield prospects.

Top 2017 Prospects

1. Jack Blomgren, SS, Janesville Craig, 2017
Currently ranked No. 7 in the Wisconsin Class of 2017. 6-foot, 178-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with an athletic frame. High level defender up the middle. Has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Accurate throws with carry across the infield, throwing 85 mph. Athletic actions, playing thru the ball with soft hands, quick footwork and a clean exchange. Good body control. Offensively hits from a balanced slightly open stance with a short leg kick stride and good balance. Fluid rhythm with a short path level swing path. Gets extension thru contact with a fast  bat. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.02. 

2. Walker Jenkins, SS, Sun Prairie, 2017
Currently ranked No. 18 in the Wisconsin Class of 2017. 5-foot-11, 165-pound switch hitting shortstop. Defensively has a short, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Athletic actions with fluid footwork and soft hands. Throws showed carry across the infield at 89 mph. Offensively from the left side hits from a balanced, slightly open stance with a short, smooth load and short stride. Short level swing path. Right handed hits from a more square setup with a short, level swing path. 82 mph exit velocity off the tee from both sides. Ran the 60 at 7.11.

3. Anthony Schlass, 2B, West Bend West, 2017
Oklahoma commit. Currently ranked No. 16 in the Wisconsin Class of 2017. 5-foot-11, 185-pound left-handed hitting second baseman with a strong, athletic frame. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Line drive hitter with explosive batspeed. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.08. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Athletic actions with average hands. Threw 83 mph across the infield.

4. Alex Tricoli-Walkanoff, 2B, Indian Trail, 2017
Currently ranked No. 32 in the Wisconsin Class of 2017. 5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Pull, power hitter with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.25. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Athletic actions with fluid footwork and good body control. Throws showed carry across the infield throwing 84 mph.

5. Paul Petit, RHP/SS, Eau Claire Regis, 2017
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting utility player with a lean, lanky frame. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a quick arm action and slight stab on the backside. Tall and fall, online delivery with a square landing. Good mound presence. Fastball sat 82-84 topping out at 85 mph. Curveball showed 12-6 shape with short breaking action at 71-72 mph for strikes. Changeup showed arm side run at 74-77 mph for strikes. Defensively took drills in the infield and outfield. In the infield has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws with carry throwing 82 mph across the infield. In the outfield showed off raw arm strength throwing 87 mph. Offensively has hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load and short stride. Line drive hitter with a level swing path and fluid rhythm. Showed a fast bat with good balance thru swing. Strength thru contact with 94 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 6.99.

6. Peyton Henry, SS/OF, Columbus, 2017
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting utility player with a lanky, athletic frame. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a long stride. Stays open on stride. Long, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 6.95. Defensively in the infield has a loose arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Athletic actions. Accurate throws with carry throwing 83 mph across the infield. In the outfield showed off arm strength throwing 86 mph. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Drop and drive delivery with a square landing. Fastball was firm at 80-83 mph. Curveball showed  11-5 shape with short breaking action at 68-73 mph. Changeup showed armside action at 72-76 mph. 

7. Brandon Komar, 3B/RHP, Elkhorn, 2017
6-foot, 182-pound right-handed hitting 3B/RHP. Offensively hits from an open stance with a leg kick stride. Line drive, gap to gap hitter with a level swing path and fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 89 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.81. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top arm slot. Accurate throws with carry across the infield throwing 85 mph. Soft hands with athletic actions. Showed good presence on the mound Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with a square landing. Fastball sat 81-84 topping out at 85 mph. Showed more velocity from the windup. Curveball has 11-5 shape with tight rotation at 70-72 mph. Changeup flashed armside run at 74-75 mph. Slider showed sweeping action with depth at 69-72 mph.

8. Eliot Turnquist, SS/RHP, Columbus, 2017
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting utility player. Defensively in the infield has a short arm action from a low ¾ arm slot. Accurate throws with carry, throwing 81 mph across the infield. Athletic actions with good body control and soft hands. In the outfield showed off raw arm strength throwing 85 mph. Offensively hits from a balanced,  slightly open stance. Short stride with arm bar on load. Long, level swing path with fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.35. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with smooth rhythm. Showed a feel for three pitches for strikes. Fastball was firm sitting 79-82 topping out at 83 mph. Curveball showed 10-4 shape at 63-66 mph. Changeup showed swing and miss potential with fading action at 75-76 mph.

9. Quinn Pierner, SS, Bay Port, 2017
6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with a strong, athletic frame. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot. Plays thru the ball with soft hands. Threw 77 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from a balanced, open stance with a leg kick stride. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.20.

10. Kiley Brown, SS, Germantown, 2017
5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws at 83 mph across the infield. Athletic actions, playing thru the ball. Offensively hits from a slightly open stance with a big leg kick stride and collapse on the backside. Long, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.46.

Top 2018 Prospects

1. Jeff Holtz, C/3B, Arrowhead, 2018
Indiana commit. 6-foot-3, 188-pound catcher/third baseman, long lanky frame, slender build with lean strength, highly projectable body. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg kick trigger, good balance. Athletic hitter, hard contact, fast loose hands. Path stays flat through contact, 93 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played at 77 mph out of the crouch, short over the top slot, quick exchange. 1.93-2.04 pop times, soft hands, well above average receiver. 81 mph across the diamond, showed serviceable actions to play third base at the next level. 7.02 runner in the 60, well above average runner.

2. Stephen Lund, C/3B, Verona Area, 2018
Recently committed to Gonzaga. 6-foot, 193-pound offensive catcher/third baseman, solid build. Right-handed hitter, open stance, excellent balance through contact, slight leg lift stride. Excellent barrel control, high contact type hitter, hard line drive gap to gap type. Showed a fast bat, 95 mph exit velocity from the tee, athletic hitter, high average guy. Defensively posted pop times at 2.01-2.13, showed softer hands, quiet receiver. Arm played accurately, short over the top action, showed carry both out of the crouch and across the diamond, 78 mph (catcher) and 79 mph (infield). Abilities to play both third base and catch at the next level, bat will play. 7.1 runner.

3. Jarrett Fueger, 3B, Waunakee, 2018
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman with a strong frame. Offensively hits from an open stance with an arm bar load and average balance. Pull hitter with a long, uphill swing path and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.31. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with average hands. Threw 81 mph across the infield.

4. Connor Manthey, C/3B, Columbus, 2018
6-foot-1, 190-pound catcher, solid strong build, durable frame, built well to handle catching duties. Defensively arm played above average, 75 mph out of the crouch, 80 mph across the diamond, accurate arm with carry, plays up. Showed athletic infield actions, pop times ranged 2.03-2.08 out of the crouch, projects well defensively at both positions, good footwork. 7.63 runner in the 60. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride, good solid balance. Strong bat, shows above average strength in the box, fast bat, 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. Shorter path to the baseball, level through contact, line drive type hitter, athletic hitter, on time.

5. Bryce Konitzer, SS/RHP, Mukwonago, 2018
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitting SS/RHP. Defensively has a loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fluid footwork with athletic actions and good body control. Threw 79 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a wide base, toe tap stride with good balance. Short, uphill swing path with a fast bat. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.39. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall online delivery with smooth rhythm. Fastball was straight sitting 82 mph and topping out at 84 on the final pitch. Curveball showed 11-5 shape with early action at 66-67 mph for strikes. Changeup flashed sink at 72-75 mph for strikes.

Top 2019 Prospects

1. Dan Blomgren, SS, Janesville Craig, 2019
5-foot-10, 150-pound shortstop, athletic shape, projectable frame, should carry strength well. Defensively has advanced actions, soft hands, premium defender, moves athletically and can play on the move, natural defender. Arm played short and over the top, carried across the infield at 79 mph, accurate arm, advanced for age. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, lower half works, excellent balance. Mechanically sound, short path, loose hands with bat speed, line drive gap to gap type hitter. 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. High follow 2019 prospect in Wisconsin.

2. Dylan Krumrei, SS/RHP, Oshkosh North, 2019
Projectable frame, 6-foot-3, 165-pound two-way player, lean loose frame with athleticism. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, short stride, lower half works, solid balance. Athletic hitter, loose hands, attack the baseball aggressively, showed barrel awareness. Path is short to it and stays flat in the hitting zone, line drive gap to gap type hitter, doubles guy, above average bat speed, good upside. 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed good actions, soft hands, moves well, clean exchange, showed body control on the move. Arm action showed some length at times, high ¾ slot, accurate across, 80 mph. 7.69 runner in the 60. On the mound delivery is athletic and works with direction. Longer arm action, high ¾ slot. Showed arm strength for age, fastball sat 78-79 mph, slight arm side action, showed control of the zone. Curveball has 11/5 shape, slurve type, 66-68 mph with feel. Changeup fades to arm side, 70-72 mph.

3. Bennett Frazer, SS/RHP, Oconto, 2019
5-foot-8, 140-pound shortstop/right-handed pitcher, loose athletic frame, moves well. Athletic defender, plays with active feet, exchange is quick and clean, plays through the baseball, quick actions, hands are soft, will stick in the middle of the infield. Arm action is short, high ¾ slot, showed some carry good release, athletic arm action, 73 mph across the diamond. Good body control. 7.36 runner in the 60. Right-handed hitter, slight open stance, short stride, solid balance, simple quiet setup. Contact type hitter, fast bat speed, short path, good barrel control, line drive type hitter, 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. Projects as a top of the order type middle infielder at the next level. On the mound arm worked cleanly from an over the top slot. Fastball sat 74-75 mph, touched 77 mph, mostly straight. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 57-59 mph. Slider has similar action at 58-61 mph. Throws a straight change at 59-60 mph. 

4. Jack Krumbach, INF, Madison Memorial, 2019
6-foot, 155-pound left-handed hitting infielder, lean projectable build, loose frame. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, sinks into load, no stride approach. Path is slightly uphill, scoops at times, fast bat, projects for pull side power, athletic hitter. 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.13 runner, good athlete. Defensively showed action on the infield, softer hands, good backhand, ability to play through the baseball. Arm action is short and loose, standard release with average arm strength, 76 mph across the diamond. Follow 2019.

5. Tucker Cole, SS, Dixon (IL), 2019
5-foot-10, 145-pound shortstop, long legged frame, slender build, projects. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, smooth loading actions, short stride, solid balance. Loose hands, athletic hitter, hands work, short path with fast bat, line drive gap to gap hitter. 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed advanced actions, short over the top arm action, arm played at 76 mph across the diamond. Soft hands, plays athletically through the baseball, cushions to release, clean exchange. 8.62 runner in the 60.

Max Alba, RHP/1B, Franklin, 2018
6-foot-5, 185-pound left-handed hitting RHP/1B with a lanky, athletic frame. Works from an over the top arm angle with a short, loose, quick arm action. Full over head drop and drive delivery with an athletic finish. Fastball was straight, tends to get underneath it at times, sat 87-89 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape with sharp action at 71-75 mph. Maintained arm speed on changeup that showed fading action at 77-81 mph for strikes. One of the top arms in Wisconsin’s 2018 class. Plays thru the ball with fluid footwork and soft hands. Threw 82 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from an open stance with a drop load and short leg kick stride. Good balance with an uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.12.

Graham Arndt, MIF, Monona Grove, 2019
Left-handed hitting middle infielder, 5-foot-6, 120-pounds. Slight open stance, short stride, good balance. Repeats swing, loose hands, contact type hitter, simple and balanced approach. Currently lacks strength, hit tool will continue to improve as he adds strength 75 mph exit velocity from the tee. 8.02 runner in the 60. Defensively plays with a loose arm action, some length, 69 mph arm strength across the diamond. Showed above average actions for his age, moved well through the baseball, ability to cushion the baseball. 

Alex Baker, SS/RHP, Reedsburg Area, 2017
5-foot-11, 165-pound left-handed hitting SS/RHP. Offensively hits from a narrow, open stance with a short stride back to even. Level swing path, showed loose hands and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.63. Defensively has a loose arm action from a ¾ slot. Showed athleticism on run thru. Threw 75 mph across the infield. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall, slow paced delivery. Tall at balance point with a back turn before heading to the plate. Closed landing, falls to first base side after release. Threw fastball for strikes at 75-77 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape at 62-65 mph for strikes. Changeup showed sinking action at 69-70 mph.

Sam Beers, 3B, Milton, 2018
5-foot-11, 130-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. Defensively has a long, loose arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Ok actions, playing thru the ball with fluid footwork. Threw 73 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from an open stance with a long stride and average balance. Line drive hitter with a short, level swing path, gets extension thru contact. 76 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.47.

Adrian Bethel, OF/1B, Memorial, 2017
6-foot-1, 209-pound right-handed hitting OF/1B. Offensively hits from an open stance with a wrap load and short stride. Long swing path with stiff rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.64. Defensively in the outfield has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Threw 84 mph from the outfield. At first base threw 74 mph across the diamond. 

Isaac Blum, 2B, Madison Memorial, 2017
6-foot-, 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. Defensively has a loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws at 78 mph across the infield. Athletic footwork playing thru the ball with soft hands. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick stride and average balance. Short, level swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.26. 

Nick Brauer, SS/RHP, Ashwaubenon, 2017
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed hitting SS/RHP. Offensively hits from a wide, spread out base with a short, body weight shift to backside with no stride. Average balance with an uphill swing path. 77 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.59. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Threw 75 mph across the infield with accuracy. On the mound works from high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing and easy effort. Fastball showed slight running action at 70-72 topping out at 73 mph. Curveball showed sweeping action at 63-66 mph. Changeup sat 65-67 mph.

Brady Butler, SS, McFarland, 2018
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with a lanky, athletic frame. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short heel lift stride and good balance. Long, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.21. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Threw 73 mph across the infield. 

Noah Casali, 2B, Middleton, 2018
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Slower action with a long exchange. Accurate throws across the infield at 73 mph. Offensively hits tall, narrow stance with an arm bar load and fair balance. Long swing path. 75 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.08.

Mitchell Cole, LHP/1B, New Berlin Eisenhower, 2018
5-foot-11, 195-pound right-handed hitting LHP/1B. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a square landing and some rhythm. Fastball showed slight sinking action at 71-73 mph. Curveball showed 1-7 shape at 64-65 mph. Changeup showed sinking action at 62-65 mph. Defensively has a long, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Showed some feel around the bag. Threw 71 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from an open stance with a leg kick stride and fair balance. Long, uphill swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.74.

Javon Connolly, 2B/OF, St. Joseph Catholic, 2018
6-foot-2, 175-pound left-handed hitting utility player. Offensively hits from a narrow, open stance with a leg kick stride. Short, uphill swing path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.98. Defensively took drills in the infield and outfield. Long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Two handed fielder. Threw 75 mph across the infield and 77 mph from the outfield. On the mound works from a high ¾ to over the top arm angle with a long draw out of the glove. Tall and fall, online delivery. Fastball sat 74-75 topping out at 76 mph. Curveball was soft with 12-6 shape at 55-59 mph. Slowed arm on changeup at 56-59 mph.

Alex David, SS, Johnson Creek, 2017
5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively hits from a tall setup. Lunges out front with a long swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.19. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Fields the ball deep with a long exchange. Threw 75 mph across the infield.

Chase Doebert, C/INF, Mount Horeb, 2018
5-foot-8, 145-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Hits from a balanced stance, short stride, drops hands into load. Average bat speed, pull side tendencies, slight uphill path. 72 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short, over the top slot, played at 69 mph out of the crouch, 70 mph across the infield. Showed solid hands defensively both behind the plate and in the infield, pop times ranged 2.52-2.62. Ran the 60 at 8.13.

Ben Ellifson, 3B, Oak Creek, 2018
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman with a strong frame. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Slower actions with fluid footwork. Threw 80 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from a slightly open stance with an arm bar load. Line drive hitter with a long, slightly uphill path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.73.

Riley Garczynski, INF, Marquette University, 2019
5-foot-10, 135-pound infielder, thin build. Right-handed hitter, slight open stance, arm bat load, drops hands, lower half collapses. Path has length and works uphill with effort, aggressive swing. 76 mph exit velocity from the tee. Showed a big arm defensively, plays longer, high ¾ slot, showed carry, 83 mph arm across the diamond. Average hands and ability to play through, long exchange. 7.83 runner in the 60.

Jordan Gomez, INF, Homestead, 2019
5-foot-7, 185-pound infielder. Right-handed hitter, slight open stance, toe tap stride, average balance. Hard contact, flashed pop, aggressive swing that showed some power potential. 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed above average arm strength across the diamond, short over the top arm slot, accurate with some carry, 76 mph across the diamond. 7.80 runner in the 60.

Seth Hackbarth, RHP/3B, Oconomowoc, 2018
5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed hitting RHP/3B. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long stiff arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with a square landing. Fastball sat 72-73 mph. Curveball showed sweeping action at 62-65 mph. Changeup sat 68-70 mph. Offensively hits from a tall, slightly open stance with a short leg lift stride. Long, uphill swing path. 74 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.38. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Threw 73 mph across the infield.

Daniel Hahn, SS, Cudahy, 2018
5-foot-5, 125-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with a small, athletic frame. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Accurate throws across the infield throwing 78 mph. Athletic actions, playing thru the ball with fluid footwork and good body control. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Line drive hitter with a long, level swing path. 78 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.36.

Bryce Hanson, SS, Sun Prairie, 2016
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with average hands and body control. Threw 77 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from an open stance with a short stride. Short, uphill wing path with late rhythm. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 6.93. 

Cameron Hazelton, INF, Chippewa Falls McDonnell, 2019
5-foot-11, 135-pound infielder, lanky frame, thin build. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short toe tap stride. Path is level and flat, casts barrel some, 75 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played at 69 mph across the diamond, longer action, high ¾ slot. Fields deep, showed some abilities to his left and right. 7.89 runner in the 60.  

Wyatt Hennessey, INF, Mukwonago, 2019
5-foot-6, 140-pound left-handed hitting infielder. Hits from a slightly open stance, slight arm bar load, short stride, average balance. Hands get low and path works uphill, pull side approach. 71 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played from a high ¾ slot, short arm action, efficient release with accuracy, 63 mph. Second base type defender, showed some actions. 8.23 runner in the 60.

Quin Henwood, 3B, Appleton North, 2019
6-foot, 200-pound third baseman, thick build with strength. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride. Path stays on top of the baseball, showed bat speed at times, 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.51 runner. Defensively showed playable hands, ability to come get it with body control. Arm played at 70 mph across the diamond, short high ¾ slot.

Josh Hock, SS/RHP, Notre Dame Academy, 2017
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting SS/RHP. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot. Throws showed carry throwing 79 mph across the infield.
