Winter Pitchers Showcase - 2020-2021 Pitchers

Prep Baseball Report - Missouri held the Winter Pitcher's Showcase on Feb. 16 at the Sports Barn in St. Louis, along with P3 Performance.  Over thirty pitchers from Missouri and Illinois in the 2018 to 2021 classes attended. 

Players can now update their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today we will break down the 2021 and 2020 pitchers from Winter Pitcher's Showcase.

The 2020 and 2021 pitching group was impressive with velo and pitch-ability.  Twelve pitchers were in the 2020 class and three pitchers were in the 2021 class.  Five pitchers were 82 mph or better with thier fastball ball, and two were 85 mph or better.  Here is a look at the underclass pitchers from the 2018 Winter Pitcher's Showcase.

2020-2021 Pitchers

Nathan Albrecht SS / RHP / Waterloo High School, IL / 2020

Albrecht is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Illinois’ 2020 class. Albrecht has a short high three quarters arms slot, controlled leg lift, throws with some effort as he accelerates down the mound, stay in line, level shoulders, fastball worked down in the zone at 80-82 mph, found fell for breaking ball later in the bullpen, 2-to 8 shape, occasionally sharp, 61-63 mph, change up at 68-72 mph, has command down in the zone, fastball arm speed, slight arm side run.

Jericho Badwan LHP / OF / Fort Zumwalt West , MO / 2021

Badwan is a lean 5-foot-10 150-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. Badwan has feel for three pitches, showed the ability to repeat delivery, stays in line down the mound, level shoulders, high three quarters release, throws with regular effort and fluid tempo, fastball works mostly 74-75 mph, will work glove side and throws for a strike, breaking ball has 1-to-7 shape, at 65-68 mph, has feel with gradual break, will be a good pitch as he continues to develop, change up at 70-72 mph, throws for a strike, slight run with fastball arm speed.

Levi Ebersoldt RHP / 3B / Jefferson, MO / 2020

Ebersoldt has a high three quarters arm slot with loose action, arm works, clean delivery with smooth tempo, repeats, fastball worked 73-76 mph, some a a downhill plane, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, will throw for a strike, looks to be a good pitch with continued development, change up flashed sinking action, throws for a strike down in the zone, near fastball arm speed, big frame with more physical development left in the tank. 

Dalton Blanchard OF / RHP / Waterloo, IL / 2020

Blanchard is a 5-foot8 132-pound right-handed pitcher in Illinois’ 2020 class. Blanchard has a calm delivery gaining effort as he strides down the mound, keeps shoulders flat, works in line, high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action, threw a high number of strikes with three pitches, fastball at mostly 76-77 mph, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape at 68-69 mph, change up showed late life with arm side running action, 70-74 mph, near fastball arm speed.

Zach Brickner RHP / 3B / Liberty-Wentzville, MO / 2020

Brickner is a 6-foot-2 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Brickner has showed slight velo increase since last year, long lean frame, still developing, clean over the top arm action, controlled tempo, creates direction in line down the mound, fastball works downhill at mostly 73-74 mph, touching 76 mph, curveball has 12-to-6 shape at 64-65 mph, change up flashed cutting action, 67-69 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed.

Lindon Curley LHP / 1B / Liberty North, MO / 2020

Curley is a 5-foot-10 150-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Curley comes from a high three quarters arm slot, high front side, accelerated tempo to release, in line stride, works fastball to both sides of the plate, has cutting action, mostly at 77-78 mph, breaking ball has depth, 12-to-6 shape, late break, 67-69 mph, has feel for a change up, fastball arm speed, has late sinking action, 71-73 mph, showed command of all pitches.

Colin Grossius RHP / 3B / St.Marys , MO / 2020

Grossius is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Grossius has a quick tempo in delivery, lean and loose frame showing some strength, quick arm speed with loose action, aggressive down the mound, fastball worked 78-80 mph, curveball flashes depth with an 11-to-5 late break, has command, has feel for a change up at 69-70 mph, some with arm side run, arm action and body type would suggest increases as he continues to grow.

Drew Iutzwig RHP / 3B / Batavia, IL / 2020

Iutzwig is a 6-foot-5 210-pound right-handed pitcher in Illinois’ 2020 class. Iutzwig has a prototypical pitchers frame, lean and long limbed, high three quarters arms lot, hands remain low through controlled leg lift and separation, creates in line direction down the mound, squared up catcher consistently with three pitches, fastball worked 78-79 mph, showed some late life with two-seam action, breaking ball was 65-67 mph, 11-to-5 shape, some with late and sharp depth, throws change up with near fastball arm speed, 68-71 mph.

Tyson James RHP / OF / Webster Groves , MO / 2020

James is a 6-foot-4 210-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. James was impressive with size, velocity, command and delivery, repeats a smooth delivery with acceleration and in line direction, over the top release with quick arm speed and loose arm action, fastball topped at 88 mph and sat mostly at 85-87 mph, fastball has two-seam action late, showed an advanced breaking ball for age with a sharp 11-to-5 shape, has depth and looks to be a swing and miss pitch, change up as late arm side sink, developed frame with quick arm speed looks to be a top pitcher in his class.

Parker Johnson RHP / OF / Mater Dei, IL / 2021

Johnson is a 6-foot-3 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. Johnson has a lean and long frame, slight rotation at balance point, in line stride, keep shoulders level as he accelerates down the mound, high three quarters arm slot, fastball worked 80-82 mph, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, throws for a strike, sharp action, change up at 74-76 mph, throws with fastball arm speed, has late arm side sink, arm action and build would suggest velo increases as he continues to develop.

Adrian Ochoa RHP / Warrenton , MO / 2020

Ochoa is a 6-foot-1 157-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. Ochoa works across the rubber then raises leg in controlled fashion, aggressive down the mound, loose high three quarters arm slot, some coil at balance point, fastball has downhill tilt, working 80-82 mph, touching 83 mph, some with late running action, breaking has 10-to-4 slider shape, late and sharp at times, can throw for a strike, change up flashed arm side run, throws with near fastball arm speed, 76-79 mph, young arm with projectable body type and arm action, look for increases down the road.

Ryan Palumbo RHP / SS / Rockwood Summit, MO / 2020

Palumbo is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Palumbo, has a smooth but quicker tempo in delivery, athletically built with quick arm speed, throws with regular effort, repeats delivery, threw high percentage of strikes, fastball touched 85 mph twice, worked mostly 83-84 mph, curveball at 65-67 mph, 11-to-5 shape, throws on same plane as fastball, late and sharp at times, change has slight sink, 72-75 mph, fastball arm speed.

Jonah Sarabia RHP / 1B / Battle , MO / 2021

Sarabia is a 6-foot-1 140-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. Sarabia has a high three quarters arm slot, lean build with long limbs capable of adding strength to already clean delivery, raises hands over head in wind up, works slightly across body adding to some deception in secondary pitches, fastball at 73-74 mph, throws slider at 62-66, 10-to-4 sweeping action, curveball has more 11-to-5 shape at 59-60 mph, change up at 67-68 mph,  throws with fastball arm speed, more velocity and command will come naturally with build and arm action.

Drew Sutton 2B / RHP / Holt , MO / 2020

Sutton is a 5-foot-10 145-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Sutton has a controlled leg lift, high three quarters arm slot, slightly across body with stride, throws with easy effort and good arm action, showed command of three pitches, fastball worked mostly 73-75 mph, some with late life, running action, change up at 68-70 mph, late arm side run, near fastball arm speed, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape, occasionally sharp and late with depth, can throw for a strike.

Bryce Wear RHP / SS / Fox , MO / 2020

Wear is a 5-foot-11 135-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Wear comes from a high three quarters arm slot, clean delivery with smooth tempo, arm works, 76-78 mph fastball, some with slight running action, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape, 63-66 mph, down in zone, 64-66 mph, throws change up with fastball arm speed, 68-72 mph, sinking action, has command, looks to be good pitch as he continues to develop.
