CHICAGO, IL – In a Chicago Public League semifinal game No. 4 seed Taft upset the No. 1 seed Morgan Park 4-3 on Friday night at Kerry Wood Park.

Taft got on the board in the bottom of the first when starting pitcher Fredrick Fitte opened up the inning with a double and Jacob Plucinski followed up with a single. Daniel Vargas then walked to load the bases. With nobody out a would be double play ball turned into one out on a throwing error allowing both Fitte and Plucinski to score. Taft added on another run thanks to a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

Fitte and Plucinski got the job done on the mound for Taft and were backed by some great defensive plays in the outfield.

Morgan Park scored a run in the fifth on a fielders choice by Darius Hill that scored Donivan Williams, who doubled to lead off the inning. Taft answered in the top of the sixth with a run of their own on an RBI groundout from Ben Talbot.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth Morgan Park scored twice on an error and an RBI single from Myles Norman. With a runner on and two outs Jacob Plucinski came in to relieve Fitte and got a comebacker to end the threat and kept Taft holding on to a 4-3 lead.

Morgan Park threatened in the seventh when Darius Hill laid down a bunt single, 3.76 down the line, and stole second to put him in scoring position for the top of the order. Plucinski settled in and got Dantrelle Lucas to pop up and caught TJ Byrd looking to end the game.

Taft moves on to play Lane Tech tomorrow for the Public League Championship at UIC.
