Kansas City Winter Open 2020-2021 Pitchers

On February 16, Prep Baseball Report - Missouri/Kansas held the Kansas City Open at Mac N Seitz Baseball in Kansas City, Missouri.  Over 70 players attended in the 2021 to 2018 classes. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the middle infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

The 2020 and 2021 pitchers group included fiifteen players in the 2020 class, and three players in the 2021 class. Four pitchers were 84 mph or better exit velo, and three pitchers were left-handed.  Here is a look at the 2021-2020 pitchers from the Kansas City Open

2020-2021 Pitchers

Michael Allen 1B / LHP / Park Hill South , MO / 2020

Allen is a 6-foot 162-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Allen comes from a high three quarters arm slot, slight coil at balance point, body stays under control, in line stride with repeatable and simple mechanics, fastball worked 72-74 mph, has slight run, curveball at 63-66, some with sharp 2-to-8 action, change up at 68-70 mph, occasional running action.

Ryan Callahan SS / RHP / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2020

Callahan is a 6-foot-3 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Callahan stays in control and throws with regular effort, has a high three quarters arm slot, slides foot across the rubber in wind up, works from the 1B side, throws high percentage of strikes with three pitches, fastball was 79-82 mph, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, throws for a strike, change up at 71-73 mph, slight sinking action, throws with near fastball arm speed.

Mason Carr LHP / OF / Central , MO / 2020

Carr is a 6-foot-2 170-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Carr is a tall and lean with long limbs, still more physical development to come, keeps hands high in delivery, simple and controlled leg lift, in line down the mound, comes from a high three quarters arm slot, fastball showed slight late run, 78-80 mph, curveball has 2-to-8 shape with gradual break, change up flashed sinking action, 69-72 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed.

Sammy Cooper RHP / OF / Lees Summit West , MO / 2020

Cooper is a well-built 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Cooper has an over the top arm slot, simple and repeatable delivery, athletic and accelerated down the mound, under control leg lift with in line stride, fastball worked mostly 83-84 mph flashing arm side run, high number of strikes, breaking ball has sharp and late, 11-to-5 action, throws for strikes down in the zone, change up has slight arm side sink, 69-70 mph, has command with near fastball arm speed, throws all pitches on downhill plane.

Jacob Crooks C / RHP / Lees Summit West, MO / 2020

Crooks is a strong 6-foot-3 190-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Crooks has a quick and loose arm action, throws with regular effort and repeatable delivery with no wasted movement, short over the top arm slot, fastball worked at 80-83 mph, commanded a sharp breaking 11-to-5 curveball, late action, good pitch, change up flashed sink with near fastball arm speed, 74-76 mph,

Michael Daggett RHP / C / Paola, KS / 2020

Daggett is a 6-foot 135-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Daggett has an athletic and repeatable delivery, loose high three quarters arm slot, slight hip rotation at balance point, in line stride, high number of strikes with three pitches, fastball worked 82-84 mph, slight arm side run, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, late and sharp action, good out pitch, shows to be a swing and miss pitch, change up flat at times with arm side release, flashes arm side run, throws for a strike at  75-80 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed

Kolin Demel SS / RHP / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020

Demel is a 5-foot-11 163-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Demel comes from a high three quarters arm slot, athletic and loose arm action, controlled and repeatable, fastball worked 79-80 mph, flashes arm side run, breaking ball has 10-to-4 shape, some sharp, throws for a strike, change up has slight late sink, 71-73 mph, fastball arm speed, showed command and feel, arm action and build will add natural velocity as he continues to develop, projectable arm in Kansas’ 2020 class.

Zach Dillman C / RHP / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2020

Dillman is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Dillman has an over the top arm slot, controlled but accelerated tempo, in line stride, throws with regular effort, fastball flashed some sink at times, mostly 77-78 mph, 11-to-5 shaped breaking ball, 62-64 mph, slight sinking action to change up, throws with near fastball arm speed, 68-73 mph.

Diego Escamillla 3B / RHP / North , KS / 2020

Escamilia is a 5-foot-9 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. Escamilia has a compact drop and drive type delivery, over the top arm slot, keep hands high with controlled leg lift, in line stride with shoulders remaining level, fastball worked at 78-81 mph, breaking ball had 11-to-5 action, some late and down in the zone, had feel for a change up at 66-70 mph, works down the zone, throws with near fastball arm speed, late sink.

Will Fricker RHP / OF / Park Hill South, MO / 2020

Fricker is a 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Fricker has a high three quarters arm slot, accelerated and smooth temp, slight rotation at balance paint, quick arm speed, fastball at mostly 84-85 mph, some with late run, breaking ball at 72-74 mph, 12-to-6 action, some with late sharp break, down in the zone, change up at 74-76 mph, fastball arm speed, tall and lean frame with more physical development to come.

Jake Johnson RHP / OF / Lees Summit North, MO / 2020

Johnson is a 6-foot 167-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Johnson comes from an over the top arm slot, works from the 1B side of the rubber, repeats delivery, body stays under control with loose arm action, fastball works 78-80 mph, breaking ball has gradual 11-to-5 shape, can throw for strikes, change up works at 74-75 mph, shows command, slight arm side sink, throws with near fastball arm speed.

Hudson Leach C / RHP / Oak Park, MO / 2020

Leach is a 6-foot-2 181-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Leach has an aggressive tempo in delivery, high three quarters arm slot, in line with level shoulders down the mound, generates power from lower half, showed command of three pitches, fastball worked mostly 85-88 mph, slight late run, breaking ball has sharp action, late, 11-to-5 shape, lands for a strike, controllable change up at 80-82 mph, fastball arm speed, slight arm side run, looks to be a top arm in Missouri’s 2020 class.

Jackson McMahan LHP / 1B / Platte County, MO / 2021

McMahan is a 5-foot-7 110-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. McMahan has an over to the top release, in line stride, loose arm action with lean frame, plenty of physical development to come with clean and repeatable delivery, fastball worked 63-66 mph, throws a knuckle curve with 12-to-6 shape, down in the zone, 57-58 mph, change up has slight sink, throws with near fastball arm speed, 56-58 mph, consistent tempo with consistent release point with all pitches.

William Ponce SS / RHP / Olathe West, KS / 2020

Ponce is a 5-foot-7 135-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Ponce has a high three quarters arms lot, rotates at balance point, accelerates and works in line down the mound, athletic delivery, fastball works 79-81 mph, has late life with running action, has command, breaking ball has 10-to-4 sweeping action, late break, sometimes sharp, 68-69 mph, throws change up with near fastball arm speed, late running action, 66-68 mph, has feel and command for change up.

Wesley Stang 1B / RHP / Olathe West, KS / 2020

Stang is a 6-foot-1 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. Stang has a quick tempo, short leg lift, over the top releasee, level shoulders with in line stride, fastball worked mostly 75-76 mph, breaking ball had 12-to-6 shape, flashed late break with some depth, change up at 63-65 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed, lean and athletic build.

James Sweeton SS / RHP / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2021

Sweeton is a slender 5-foot-5 120-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. Sweeton works from a short over the top arm slot, keeps ball hidden until release, adds deception with quicker tempo, slight hip rotation at top of balance point, works in line and throws with some effort, fastball at 68-71 mph, gradual 10-to-4 shaped breaking ball, sweeping action, throws change up with near fastball arm speed, has slight sink, 67-69 mph.

Dameon Velasquez RHP / Lee's Summit North , MO / 2020

Velasquez is a 5-foot-11 135-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Velasquez has a tall and lean frame with projection, loose arm action, over the top arm slot, simple and repeatable delivery, works aggressively and in line down the mound, showed command of three pitches, fastball at 76-78 mph, heavy with late sinking action, breaking ball had late break at 56-60 mph, 12-to-6 action, change up showed late sinking action, throws with near fastball arm speed, 58-59 mph, build has room to add strength as he continues to develop with already clean delivery and movement on all pitches.

Adam Young C / RHP / Olathe South, KS / 2021

Young is a 5-foot-10 145-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  Young has an over the top arm slot, controlled leg lift, accelerates sown the mound, throws with some effort, keep shoulders level, fastball worked 73-75 mph, showed some late cutting action, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape, 65-68 mph, change up at 70-73 mph, fastball arm speed, has command.
