Kansas City Winter Open: Outfielders Analysis

On February 16, Prep Baseball Report - Missouri/Kansas held the Kansas City Open at Mac N Seitz Baseball in Kansas City, Missouri.  Over 70 players attended in the 2021 to 2018 classes. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the outfielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

The outfield group included one player in the 2018 class, thirteen players in the 2019 class, seven players in the 2020 class and five players in the 2021 class.  Eight players had 87 or better exit velos with four players over 90 mph.  Five players had 84 mph positional velocity or better.  Here is a look at the outfielders from the Kansas City Open.

Jack Arbuckle OF / LHP / Webster Groves, MO / 2019

Arbuckle is a 5-foot-11 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class. Arbuckle ran a 4.17 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, at the plate, open stance, short in line stride, minimal hand load, quick bat speed, pull side contact with power.  In the outfield, over the top release, maintaining momentum through the catch, quick exchange, aggressive actions, 81 mph positional velocity.

Dominic Bainter 1B / OF / Hays , KS / 2021

Bainter is an athletically built 5-foot-9 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 4.27 home to first and has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts lightly open, smooth load, hands load with stride, controlled body, hands creates loose bat whip with quick hands, swing produced consistent middle of the field line drives during hitting evals. In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, quick to the ball with fluid footwork and clean exchange, works behind the ball, 73 mph positional velocity.

Corey Bradford OF / Park Hill, MO / 2019

Chaffin is a strong, with some length, 6-foo-1 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 4.45 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, quiet hands with weight shift to back leg to load, leg kick with in line stride, loose hands with level path through extension, flashed power to pull side, mostly middle line drives.  In the outfield, 86 mph, over the top release, quick feet to the ball, works through the ball with momentum, arm works, throws downhill, clean exchange, athletic actions.

Owen Chaffin RHP / SS / Blue Valley Southwest , KS / 2019

Chaffin is a strong, with some length, 6-foo-1 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 4.45 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, quiet hands with weight shift to back leg to load, leg kick with in line stride, loose hands with level path through extension, flashed power to pull side, mostly middle line drives.  In the outfield, 86 mph, over the top release, quick feet to the ball, works through the ball with momentum, arm works, throws downhill, clean exchange, athletic actions

Sammy Cooper RHP / OF / Lees Summit West , MO / 2020

Cooper is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class. Cooper ran a 4.03 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, short in line stride, hands walk away from stride to load, slight lift to bat path, showed power to the pull side with the ability to go the other way, quick and aggressive bat speed.  In the outfield, 88 mph positional velocity, athletic actions, aggressive momentum maintained through the catch, crow how, quick to the ball with quick transfer and throw, loose arm action.

Kolin Demel SS / RHP / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020

Demel is a 5-foot-11 163-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 4.43 home to first and has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance with a calm load, some pre-pitch rhythm in hands, body stays under control, hand create level path to extension, quick bat speed, gap to gap approach.  In the outfield, 81 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, feet and hands work together, clean exchanges with momentum to throw.

Timothy Foster OF / 3B / Blue Valley North, KS / 2020

Foster is a well built 6-foot-2 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 5.63 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load with early stride and separating hands, hands are short to contact, work inside the ball, flashed power to pop gap, repeats swing.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, take ball outside of left foot, quick transfer, plays through the ball, 81 mph positional velocity.

Trent Flake OF / RHP / Grain Valley, MO / 2020

Flake is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.39 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced set up, minimal load and stride, body stays under control, level path with high finish in hands, swing produced mostly middle to pull side line drives.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velocity, attacks the ball prior to catch, work through the ball with momentum, fluid footwork with clean exchange, over the top release. 

Andrew Garry OF / RHP / Blue Springs, MO / 2019

Garry is a long and lean 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.72 home to first and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall set up, slightly open, minimal load and minimal hand movement, attacks ball, quick and loose hands, mostly pulls side line drive, consistent hard contact, flashing power, stays in lower half.  In the outfield, 81 mph positional velocity, over the top release, athletic footwork to the ball, works behind the ball ball, creates momentum after the catch, crow hop, clean exchanges.

Tate Gillen OF / LHP / Blue Valley, KS / 2021

Gillen is a 6-foot 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.29 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced swing, no wasted movement, athletic swing, quick hands with feel for the barrel, body stays under control.  In the outfield, loose over the top release, attacks ball and plays through the catch, fluid transfer on time with momentum in feet, 82 mph positional velocity.

Zachry Hanlan OF / C / Central St Joseph, MO / 2019

Hanlan is a physical 6-foot-1 184-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.65 home to first and has a 92 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, controlled leg kick, doesn't get cheated with swing, aggressive, loose and quick hands generate fast bat speed, has power, mostly middle to pull side contact.  In the outfield, 78 mph positional velocity, smooth actions, over the top release, exchange on time with footwork, quick catch and throw. 

Jake Johnson RHP / OF / Lees Summit North, MO / 2020

Johnson is a 6-foot 167-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.32 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, efficient and smooth load, quick hands with level path, simple an repeatable swing, gap to gap approach.  In the outfield, 81 mph positional velocity, quick and loose arm action, takes ball outside of left foot, clean exchange with momentum through the catch, plays through the ball, athletic build with room to develop more strength.

Mike Jones OF / Park Hill South , MO / 2019

Jones is a 5-foot-10 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.26 home to first and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth pre-pitch rhythm, fluid and accelerated swing, consistent hard contact during hitting eval to middle and pull side of the cage.  In the outfield, 84 mph positional velocity, quick actions, high three quarters release, attacks ball, aggressive momentum after the catch, clean transfers from glove to hands.

Ethan Light OF / Pittsburg, KS / 2021

Light is a 5-foot-11 135-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.33 home to first and has a 73 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, early stride with separating hands, loose and quick hands, body stays under control, feel for the barrel, consistently squared up the ball, mostly middle to oppo contact.  In the outfield, 74 mp positional velocity, short over the top release, works behind the ball and creates momentum after the catch, clean glove to hand exchange, lean frame with plenty of room to develop strength to athletic movements. 

Duffin Makings OF / 1B / Marshall , MO / 2019

Makings is 5-foot-10 175-pound a left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 4.19 home to first an had an 86 mph positional velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance preloaded on back leg, efficient load with quiet hands, hands control bat head, feel for the barrel, showed ability to turn on pitches, mostly middle to pull side contact during hitting evals.  In the outfield, 74 mph positional velocity, high there quarters arm slot, fluid transfer, aggressive to the ball, works behind and through the catch, clean glove to hand transfers. 

Easton Meister OF / Smithville , MO / 2019

Meister is a strong 5-foot-11 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 4.47 home to first with a 78 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, calm and quiet load, balanced stance, short stride, hands manage the bat, creates flat plane and whip, simple and repeatable swing mechanics.  In the outfield, 78 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, quick catch and throw, clean transfers, works behind the ball playing through the catch.

Jackson McMahan LHP / 1B / Platte County, MO / 2021

McMahan is a 5-foot-7 110-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 4.87 home to first and has a 78 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced set up, slightly closed, smooth pre-pitch rhythm in hands, short stride, swing produced mostly middle of the field contact.  In the outfield, throws with a loose high three quarters arm slot, 67 mph positional velocity, aggressive through the ball with momentum, quick transfer, clean exchanges, still developing physically with already clean actions.

Jacob Monroe LHP / OF / Webb City, MO / 2019

Monroe is a physical 6-foot-2 200-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.16 60 and has a 91 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth rhythm, some hand load, short in line stride, stays through the ball after contact, shows power to the pull side, level bat plane, has range in swing.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, 79 mph positional velocity, fluid and athletic, plays through the ball, quick transfer on time with footwork, arm works.

DeAunte Parkee OF / 2B / Bishop Miege , KS / 2020

Parkee is a strong and well built 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas 2020 class.  He ran a 4.50 home to first, 92 mph positional velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load, no wasted movement, short stride, quick and explosive hands, mostly middle to pull side contact with power to pull gap.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velocity, three quarters arm slot, quick actions, attacks the ball, plays through the catch with momentum, clean glove to hand exchanges.

Chase Pearson OF / SS / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2019

Pearson is a 5-foot-7 140-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.38 home to first an has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, starts loaded in back leg, mostly quiet hands, level bat path, hands work inside the ball, consistent contact gap to gap.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, aggressive to the ball, clean glove to hand transfers with momentum after the catch to throw.

Wyatt Perkins OF / Pleasant Hill, MO / 2020

Perkins is a 5-foot-9 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.43 home to first and has a 78 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance, short stride, simple and repeatable with some movement in feet pre-swing, level path, gap to gap line drives.  In the outfield, 74 mph positional velocity, aggressive to the ball with quick feet, clean glove to hand exchange, crow hop for momentum, fluid actions.

Beau Rodriguez OF / RHP / Derby High School, KS / 2018

Rodriguez is a 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas' 2018 class.  He ran a 4.25 home to first and has an 89 mph exit velocity. At the plate, has a balanced stance, reverse toe tap, loose hands with middle to pull side contact, no wasted movement in hand or load. From the outfield he was 84 mph, aggressive to the ball, plays through the catch with momentum, throws with over the top release.

Daniel Trehey RHP / OF / St. James, KS / 2019

Trehey is a long and lean 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.41 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a balanced and tall set up, toe tap, aggressive bat speed with loose hands, level bat path, has power to pull side, mostly middle to pull side power.  In the outfield, 82 mph positional velocity, over the top release with small crow hop after the catch, clean exchanges, feet create momentum to throw. 

Dillon Turner RHP / OF / Strafford, MO / 2019

Turner is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.51 home to first and has a 91 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a slightly open and athletic stance, controlled leg lift, swings with intent to hit the ball hard, quick and loose hands, fast bat speed, shows power to middle and pull side.  In the outfield, 86 mph positional velocity, quick arm speed, over the top release, fluid to the ball, works through the catch with fluid momentum, fluid and clean transfer.

Blake Stegner OF / RHP / Blue Springs, MO / 2019

Stengner is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.50 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, leg kick with some hand load, in line stride, repeats swing, level path with consistent hard solid contact gap to gap.  In the outfield, 74 mph positional velocity, quick to the ball, aggressive footwork and excahnge, in sync and on time, clean exchange, long limbed with more room to fill out physically.

Gavin Williams OF / 3B / Desoto, KS / 2021

Williams is a 6-foot 165-pound right handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.53 home to first and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, athletic and slightly open in set up, minimal hand movement during load, smooth lower half load with controlled leg lift, in line stride, hands control the barrel, level path with gap to gap line drives.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velocity, fluid actions, feet work with hands on exchange, quick exchange, over the top release, works through the ball with momentum.
