Gillen has an athletic build, long limbs and projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. He is a left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class out of Blue Valley HS. At the event, a Creighton commit, he ran a 7.19 second 60 and a 4.47 home-to-first. At the plate, athletic stance, smooth actions, pre-pitch rhythm with his body, quick bat, showed feel for the barrel, aggressive getting back hip through, gap-to-gap approach, consistent pop throughout round. Defensively in the outfield, aggressive to the baseball with good actions, fluid footwork, works behind the baseball, smooth and easy arm action, high three-quarters release, positional velo of 81 mph at the event.

Gillen is a strong and athletic 6-foot-2 185-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas' 2021 class, a Creighton commit.  He ran a 7.38 60, a 4.65 home to first and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth weight shift to back side with rhythm in hands, quick bat speed, stays on ball after contact, flashes pull side power.  In the outfield, athletic actions, fluid footwork to the ball, creates momentum through and after the catch, high three quarters arm slot, arm works, 86 mph positional velocity.

6/5/18 - Gillen is a 6-foot-1 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder and left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.27 60 and a 4.66 home to first.  He has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, hits frame an athletic and attacking posture, aggressive bat speed, level through the zone, repeats well, feel for the barrel, consistent hard line drives gap to gap with pull side power.  In the outfield, quick and athletic actions, quick and throw with clean exchanges, high three quarters arms slot, good route to the ball, momentum through the catch, 80 mph positional velocity. On the mound, athletic delivery, repeats release with smooth acceleration in line down the mound, over the top arm slot, quick and loose arm speed, fastball at world 76-79 mph, late two-seam action, breaking ball at 59-63 mph, 1-to-7 shape, lands for strike, occasionally late action with swing and miss potential, slight fade on change up at 70-70 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed, high number of strikes with fastball and curveball, challenges hitters, projection in athletic frame and arm action.

2/16/18 - Gillen is a 6-foot 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.29 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced swing, no wasted movement, athletic swing, quick hands with feel for the barrel, body stays under control.  In the outfield, loose over the top release, attacks ball and plays through the catch, fluid transfer on time with momentum in feet, 82 mph positional velocity.

1/27/18 - Gillen is a 6-foot 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.33 60 and had an 83 mph exit velocity .  At the plate, balanced set up, consistent hard contact gap to gap during batting practice, some natural lift to bat path, feel for the barrel, repeats swing, body stays under control, loose and quick hands.  Did not work out in the outfield.

7/5/17 - Gillen is a 5-foot-11 145-pound left-handed hitting outfielder and left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.25 60 and has a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, advanced swing mechanics, balanced stance, smooth load, short in line stride, level bat path, solid and hard contact during batting practice, gap to gap approach, showed range in swing.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velocity, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork to and through the ball, loose high three quarters arm action, athletic actions. On the mound, Gillen has a projectable frame with easy and loose arm action, throws with some effort at release, high three quarters arm slot, strides slight across body, fastball has arm side run, 72-74 mph, commands the strike zone, change up has sinking action to bottom of zone, 67-69 mph, near fastball arm speed, tight spinning 1-to-7 breaking ball, 57-60 mph, some with late break, athletic delivery with more in the tank as he continues to develop.
