Kansas Underclass Games: Infield Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas held the Kansas Underclass Games on June 4 at the in Wichita, Kansas.  Over 70 players from the region attended in the 2022 and 2021 class.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Here is a closer look at the infielders from the event, listed in alphabetical order.

Infielders

Cole Askew SS / RHP / Seaman , KS / 2021 Askew has a medium and athletic build at 5-foot-9, 165 pounds and is a right-handed hitting middle infielder and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event, he ran a 7.38 second 60 and a 4.40 home-to-first. During hitting evaluations, Askew starts in an athletic stance, across the body stride, remains balanced throughout, uphill swing, showed gap-to-gap approach during round and some pull side pop. Defensively, Askew shows athletic actions on infield, quick movements side to side, momentum towards target, high three-quarter slot, positional velo of 84 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Fletcher Aude 3B / SS / Paola , KS / 2021 Aude is a strong and physical 5-foot-10, 190-pound, right-handed hitting infielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. During batting practice, Aude shows a smooth swing with a simple load, quiet hands, in line stride, leverages front side, contact during round was primarily to left and center field showing line drives and fly balls. Defensively, aggressive to the baseball, clean transfers, high three-quarter release, shorter arm action, positional velo of 75 mph, accurate throws.

Brady Beverman 3B / RHP / Olathe South, KS / 2021 Beverman has a larger frame at 6-foot, 205 pounds, and is a right-handed hitting infield prospect and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 recruiting class. At the event, he ran an 8.08 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. During batting practice, Beverman starts with an open stance, shows some rhythm to hands, shorter and in line stride, extension through the baseball, flat bat path, feel for barrel, middle to pull side approach during round. Defensively, moves well for his size, clean transfers three-quarter slot, carry to throws, positional velo of 78 mph, mostly accurate throws.

William Brant C / 2B / Shawnee Mission East, KS / 2021 Brant has a stocky build at 5-foot-9, 165-pounds and is a right-handed hitting catcher and middle infielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.60 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph. During batting practice, Brant shows a athletic and balanced swing, quiet load, in line stride, flat bat path, showed hard pull contact with lift during round. Zachary Brink 1B / LHP / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2021 Brink is a left-handed hitting first basement and left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class at 5-foot-9, 180 pounds. Spencer Davidson 1B / LHP / Minneapolis, KS / 2021 Davidson has a large frame at 6-foot-2, 225-pounds and is a left-handed hitting first basement and left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the plate, starts upright and narrow, in line stride, quick hands, level bat path, showed hard contact off the bat and power to the gaps during round. Defensively, quick off the bag, clean transfers, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 69 mph, fairly accurate throws.

Anthony DeMarino 3B / 2B / Blue Valley West, KS / 2021 DeMarino is a slender framed left-handed hitting infielder at 5-foot-11, 145 pounds in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event, he ran a 7.60 second 60 and a 4.90 home-to-first. At the plate, showed loose hands, across the body stride, minimal head movement, high finish with hands, primarily pull side contact during round, exit velocity of 79 mph. Griffin Edds 3B / RHP / Bishop Miege, KS / 2021 Edds has a projectable frame and long limbs at 6-foot-4, 165 pounds, and is a corner infielder and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.24 second 60, and posted an exit velocity of 83 mph. Tyler Gerety SS / OF / Nemaha Central, KS / 2021 Gerety is an athletic infield prospect in Kansas’ 2021 class with a projectable frame at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds. At the plate, quiet hands, longer and in line stride, leverages front side, works to get arms extended, showed primarily pull side contact with some lift. Cooper Harn SS / RHP / Olathe South, KS / 2021 Harn is a slender 5-foot-7, 125-pound, right-handed hitting middle infielder and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.30 second 60, and posted an exit velocity of 81 mph. During batting practice, Harn shows a simple load, some rhythm with his hands, in line stride, leverages front side, remains balanced throughout swing, more left in his tank with his current build. Connor Holle 1B / LHP / Riley County, KS / 2021 Holle has a bigger frame and physical build at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds. He is a right-handed hitting first basement and left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event, he ran a 7.63 second 60, and posted an exit velocity of 78 mph. At the plate, reverse toe tap into load, in line stride, uphill bat path, showed some pop during batting practice. Defensively, good lateral movements, fluid footwork, quick catch to release, clean arm action, positional velo of 80 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Carson Hornung SS / 3B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2021 Hornung is an athletic 6-foot-2, 180-pound, middle infield prospect in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event, he ran a 7.30 second 60, and posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. At the plate, athletic stance, loose hands, in line stride, quick bat, remains balanced throughout, showed pop to the middle of the field during round. He ran a 7.79 second 60 yard dash, and posted an exit velocity of 78 mph. During batting practice, Lira starts in a balanced position, simple load with quiet hands, in line stride, leverages front side, showed contact to all fields during round. Kevin Mannell C / RHP / Jefferson West , KS / 2021 Mannell has a projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds and is a right-handed hitting catcher, infielder and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.
