The Illinois commit showed a slightly better than average arm with a clean exchange, quick release and pop times in the 1.93-2.08 range. With a wrestler-type build at 5-foot-9, 185 pounds, Janik led a talented group of ProCase catchers with 81 mph of arm strength and top level defensive skills behind the plate. He also showed some athleticism with a 7.04 sixty before taking a solid round of BP where he averaged 290’ of distance on 15 batted balls with a high mark of 354’ and exit velocity of 92.7 mph. His big swing with an open stance has plenty of pre-pitch movement, yet he displayed an ability to consistently put the bat on the ball, stroking a pair of base hits during game action. He also posted solid marks in Blast rotational acceleration (12.7 g), peak hand speed (22.7 mph) and power kW (4.32).

Arm works short, over-the-top and throws carry at times. Pop times ranged between 2.04-2.12, up early out of the crouch. Received bullpens with bounce and energy, willing blocker. Soft, strong hands, quiet with pitches in the zone. At the plate, right-handed hitter, open setup, short stride. Stays short to the ball and compact at times, present bat strength; 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. 7.64 runner in the 60.

1.28.18 - 5-foot-9, 175-pound catcher, strong stocky build. Defensively shows plus arm strength for his age, 77 mph out of the crouch, carried well, short, over the top slot and accurate. Soft hands, clean exchange, athletic defender, durable and willing blocker, pop times 2.11-2.18. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, slightly open stance, short stride, good balance. Strong hands, path is flat through the zone, gets extension, gap to gap approach. 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.69 runner home to first.

Flashed bat speed, made consistent hard contact, used the middle of the field with some looseness in swing, path stays level through the zone, gets extension, line drive approach. Exit velocity registered at 83 mph. 7.91 laser-timed 60.

Balanced, open setup, pre-pitch load, normal stride and fluid rhythm. Uphill bat path with some length and a gap-to-gap approach. Defensively, worked out at first base and catcher. Steady hands and throws from a short over-the-top slot. Clocked at 58 mph across the infield. Behind the plate, athletic action, clean exchange, short arm action, clocked at 63 mph. Would benefit from improved direction coming out of the crouch. Pop times ranged between 2.31-2.43. 8.68 runner in the 60.
