The Illinois commit showed a slightly better than average arm with a clean exchange, quick release and pop times in the 1.93-2.08 range. With a wrestler-type build at 5-foot-9, 185 pounds, Janik led a talented group of ProCase catchers with 81 mph of arm strength and top level defensive skills behind the plate. He also showed some athleticism with a 7.04 sixty before taking a solid round of BP where he averaged 290’ of distance on 15 batted balls with a high mark of 354’ and exit velocity of 92.7 mph. His big swing with an open stance has plenty of pre-pitch movement, yet he displayed an ability to consistently put the bat on the ball, stroking a pair of base hits during game action. He also posted solid marks in Blast rotational acceleration (12.7 g), peak hand speed (22.7 mph) and power kW (4.32).

Behind the plate, highly-flexible, loose hips, presents square low target. Quiet receiver, receptive hands, strong wrists, sticks pitches in the zone. Clean, quick and efficient out of the crouch. Arm is quick and strong from an over-the-top slot. Throws carry, consistently around the second base bag and topped at 81 mph from the crouch. Pop times ranged from 2.00-2.12. At the plate, open setup, stride gets back to even and hits with rhythm. Aggressive swing, present bat strength, strong pull-side contact and 89 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.45 runner, home-to-first.

7.23.18 - 5-foot-9, 185-pound catcher, strong compact build. Plus armed defender for his age, gets carry at 79 mph, short over the top action that plays accurate. Hands are soft and clean, natural catching actions. Pop times ranged 2.08-2.19. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride. Gets into lower half and occasionally lifts on uphill plane, strong hands and bat control, makes consistent hard contact, gap to gap type. 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.59 runner down the line.

2.18.18 - 5-foot-9, 185-pound, catcher, durable frame with present strength. High follow 2021 catcher. Defensively, has advanced arm strength for his age; 77 mph from the crouch. Arm works short, over-the-top and throws carry at times. Pop times ranged between 2.04-2.12, up early out of the crouch. Received bullpens with bounce and energy, willing blocker. Soft, strong hands, quiet with pitches in the zone. At the plate, right-handed hitter, open setup, short stride. Stays short to the ball and compact at times, present bat strength; 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. 7.64 runner in the 60.

1.28.18 - 5-foot-9, 175-pound catcher, strong stocky build. Defensively shows plus arm strength for his age, 77 mph out of the crouch, carried well, short, over the top slot and accurate. Soft hands, clean exchange, athletic defender, durable and willing blocker, pop times 2.11-2.18. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, slightly open stance, short stride, good balance. Strong hands, path is flat through the zone, gets extension, gap to gap approach. 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.69 runner home to first.

9.9.17 - Solid build catcher, 5-foot-9, 170-pounds. Showed big arm strength for his age, short over the top with quick transfer out of the crouch. Arm carried well and showed accurate to bag.

3.5.17 - 5-foot-8, 170 pound, athletically built, well-proportioned catcher and infielder. Highly advanced defensive catcher in the 2021 class. Flexible lower half, athletic setup, soft hands, natural catcher actions, quick, highly athletic feet, comes out the crouch clean and quick, stays on-line. Arm is advanced for age, short, over-the-top action, accurate, throws carry, clocked at 71 mph. Pop times ranged between 2.15-2.22. At first base, similar athletic actions as he showed behind the plate; soft hands, quick, fluid footwork and feel for the position. Clocked at 71 mph across the infield. Offensively, tall, open setup, long stride, maintains balance throughout. Flashed bat speed, made consistent hard contact, used the middle of the field with some looseness in swing, path stays level through the zone, gets extension, line drive approach. Exit velocity registered at 83 mph. 7.91 laser-timed 60.

3.6.16 - 5-foot-5, 157-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively, aggressive swing, hard contact and strength through contact; 71 mph exit velocity off of a tee. Balanced, open setup, pre-pitch load, normal stride and fluid rhythm. Uphill bat path with some length and a gap-to-gap approach. Defensively, worked out at first base and catcher. Steady hands and throws from a short over-the-top slot. Clocked at 58 mph across the infield. Behind the plate, athletic action, clean exchange, short arm action, clocked at 63 mph. Would benefit from improved direction coming out of the crouch. Pop times ranged between 2.31-2.43. 8.68 runner in the 60.
