He’s a proven in-game performer for our staff with sneaky strength in his swing, and he wore out the barrel in his round of BP, peaking at 91.5 mph with an average of 85 mph. He’s an athletic defender in the outfield with some bounce, and he’s also a 6.76 runner in the 60. GAMEPLAY: Ovalos had a quality weekend at the plate, including earning Team Select MVP honors for his 2-for-2 day with a double in Game Two. He utilized his athleticism and played strong in the field throughout the week, playing three clean games in the outfield while showing the ability to cover ground and read the ball well off the bat.

Reached base in all five plate appearances, finishing 3-for-3 with a double and two walks on the day. Also showed off the arm out in center field, cutting down a runner to keep the game tied in the bottom of the fourth to end the inning.

Was hit by a pitch in his third plate appearance and came around to score. Defensively, he had seven putouts, four assists, including starting a game-ending relay against Parkway South that cut down a potential triple from the batter. Avalos finished the week 7-for 12 with four walks, three doubles, eight RBIs, seven runs, and seven stolen bases.

OF Omar Avalos (Father McGivney) is no stranger to Prep Baseball events and continues to show well every time we get our eyes on him. During BP there was more rhythm and fluidity in his hands pre-pitch while still showing the strong, repeatable swing that was on the barrel throughout his round. Avols worked back up the middle of the field during BP, peaked at 96.9 mph, averaged 89.1 and launched his furthest batted ball 335’. Defensively, he is a natural in the outfield and can profile at all three spots while topping at 86 mph.

Currently ranked No. 19 in the state. Sparkplug at the top of the order all weekend for the Tigers Scout Team. Flat left-handed swing that stays through the zone, looks to spray the ball to all fields, advanced bat-to-ball and barrel control. High-level defender in the outfield with range and a quick first step, covers ground with ease. High-level prospect to know in the state.

One of the top freshmen in the state, slotted at No. 18 overall in the Illinois’ 2027 rankings. Holds lean strength throughout his frame, wide back. Started in right field and hit leadoff for Father McGivney. Reached base three times; drew two walks, singled to the pull-side, and scored three runs. True table-setter atop a lineup; minimal swing-and-miss and zone expansion, gets on base often and can run. Has a .560 OBP in 84 plate appearances this spring with 24 walks and 18 stolen bases. Easy hand speed and twitch from the left-side, stays flat through the hitting zone with a short path to contact.

OF Omar Avalos Jr. (Father McGivney) came away from the PBR Junior Future Games last summer as one of the top performers for Team Illinois and is a top-20 prospect in the state’s 2027 class. With the bat, Avalos Jr. showed the typical bat-to-ball skills we are used to seeing, adding more bat strength in this look however with a further max batted distance (320 feet) than we’d previously seen. Defensively, he moved around the outfield comfortably with athletic feet and a loose, quick arm.

OF Omar Avalos (Father McGivney, 2027) has quickly made a name for himself this summer, capping off the circuit with performances at the PBR Junior Future Games and the Illinois State Games. Playing against older competition, Avalos didn’t let the moment get too big and showed that he belonged during his time in Rantoul. A 6.92 runner, the 5-foot-7, 150-pound left/left prospect has loads of athleticism and shows noticeable strength in his frame. Avalos has a knack for bat-to-barrel contact as he’s consistently been a tough out for pitchers. He can track the ball down in the outfield, too, and uses his speed to move efficiently. As he matures and gets stronger, Avalos’ metrics will likely increase, and he has positioned himself as one of Illinois’ premier 2027 prospects.
