PBR Wisconsin 2022 Winter Showcase Calendar: Release

By: Andy Sroka & Diego Solares

On Nov. 9, Prep Baseball Report unveiled its national Preseason ID showcase schedule, including Wisconsin's seven events. It all starts on Jan. 30 in Kenosha, with events spanning the state, leading to the start of the WIAA in the early spring.

If you’re curious to learn more about the Prep Baseball Report’s showcase structure, here’s an idea of what you can expect while attending and following a PBR showcase.

WHAT IS A PRESEASON ID EVENT?

The Preseason ID series is unique in several ways. It serves as an identifier heading into the spring high school season, giving our scouts as well as college recruiters, a list of prospects to follow as they plan their spring coverage. We also tend to see prospects’ best performances in the Preseason, as most athletes are fresh and coming off of strict and targeted off-season training programs that have resulted in big gains, primed for updating their PBR profile. All of which lends the perfect opportunity to secure invitations to some of the summer's biggest invite-only events such as the Top Prospect Games, PBR Future Games, and more.

Our staff strategically hosts Preseason I.D. events throughout the state in search of players who have taken advantage of the offseason, identifying new prospects to add to our follow lists or players our staff is already familiar with who are on the rise.

All player information including tech metrics, stats, videos, scouting reports and more will be hosted to the Prep Baseball Report website, bolstering the player profile, which is subscribed to by more than 800 colleges across the country.

KENOSHA PRESEASON ID

One of the longest running events on our calendar, the Kenosha Preseason ID has typically been the kickstart to our winter season in the Badger State. Held at Puma Baseball Academy, this event provides us with an opportunity to check in on players from the Kenosha area and several players have popped here in the past. In 2021, we saw eventual PBR Future Gamer RHP Jake Catalano (Brookfield East, 2023) pop up here, with both C Joey Lagina (Freedom Project Academy, 2022; MidAmerica Nazarene University commit) and OF Ethan Clark (Lakes Community, IL, 2022; Missouri Southern) standing out as well.

FOX CITIES PRESEASON ID

We’re headed back to Appleton on Feb. 12 after a successful sold-out showing in 2021 to host this event again at the Players Choice of the Fox Cities facility. Over 100 players attended in March with multiple standout performances to highlight from this event, including RHP Jonah Conradt (P27 Academy, SC, 2023; Arkansas) and RHP Theo Zeidler (Bay Port, 2022; Bradley). Recent Wisconsin-Milwaukee commit RHP Benjamin Lee (Amherst, 2022) was amongst the day’s top arms and RHP Deuce Musial III (Notre Dame Academy, 2023) committed to Illinois State shortly after his ‘pen here, too. This day also provided us with an up-to-date look at LHP Bradyn Bezanson (Hudson) and INF Javin Gauthier (De Pere; Illinois State), both of whom debuted on our first edition of the state 2024 rankings.

WEST MILWAUKEE PRESEASON ID

For the third straight year, our staff is eager to host this event at STiKS Academy on Feb. 19. We’ve had numerous PBR Future Game members emerge from this event in the past, and last year’s showcase was no different. RHP Luke Agnew (Marquette University, 2023), LHP Gavyn Bowen (Pewaukee, 2023), and the aforementioned Conradt each attended this showcase in 2021, and went on to represent Team Wisconsin at LakePoint in August. Currently the state’s top 2023 prospect, RHP Dylan Questad (Waterford; Arkansas) also made an appearance here. RHP Thomas Harper (Wauwatosa East; Illinois State), C Charlie Jarvis (Catholic Memorial; uncommitted), LHP Willard Peterson (Evansville; Evansville) and C Alec Campbell (Milton; Winona State) are all top-50 prospects in Wisconsin’s 2022 class who showed well at this event last winter.

GREEN BAY PRESEASON ID

Our staff will make the trip to the brand new Impact Sports Academy in De Pere on Feb. 27 to host this Green Bay-area event for the first time. This event will serve as an opportunity for our scouts to further evaluate one of the state’s most populated regions and get our eyes on some names we may have never seen before.

SOUTH MILWAUKEE PRESEASON ID

The oldest annual event on our showcase calendar has given us the opportunity to see some of the top talent to come through this state in recent years. Held at Hitters Baseball Academy, this year’s event will take place on March 6, and we’re anticipating another loaded roster – something that’s become the norm from this showcase. We saw a few highly touted 2022 prospects, multiple PBR Future Game participants, and we garnered our latest looks at several of the state's best players, representing each high school class.

MADISON PRESEASON ID

The Madison Preseason ID has consistently the largest event on our calendar, and we saw nearly 200 players from the 2022-24 grad classes this past March. Held at GRB Academy in Windsor, multiple next-level recruits emerged from our most recent Madison-area event, including INF Ethan Hindle (Arrowhead, 2023; Kentucky), C Thomas Curry (Arrowhead, 2023; Missouri), and C Dominic Kibler (New Berlin West, 2023; Kent State). Fellow Team Wisconsin members also made their mark at this event in 2021: INF/RHP Quinn Falish (De Pere, 2023), and OF Caleb Karll (Madison West, 2023)

RHP Cole Selvig (Regis; Texas) established himself as a top 2023 prospect in Wisconsin here last year; RHP Caden Capomaccio (Notre Dame Academy, 2022; Minnesota) showed off his gains made from a productive offseason, too, and he's firmly among the top arms in the state's senior class today. Now-sophomores OF Logan Dunn (Wautoma), INF Eddie Rynders (Wisconsin Lutheran, 2024; Kent State) and RHP/SS Noah Wech (Manitowoc Lincoln) were each among the day’s top 2024 performers and each currently sit in the top-10 of our sophomore rankings. This is undoubtedly one of the most important events on our calendar, as it provides us an ample opportunity to evaluate a high number of players from several different parts of the state.

MILWAUKEE PRESEASON ID

Last year we held the first-ever Milwaukee Preseason ID at the state-of-the-art MOSH Performance Center in Franklin. It swiftly became one of our largest, as over 150 players attended it, from each high school class. Last year’s roster was littered with numerous high-end prospects in their respective classes, including Class of 2022 prospects OF Michael Lippe (Whitefish Bay; Louisville), RHP Brayden Marks (Elkhorn Area; Bradley), RHP Nate Snead (South Milwaukee; Iowa Western CC), and C Will Johannes (Mukwonago; Madison JC). UTL Max Hennemann (Oak Creek, 2023; Northern Kentucky) helped earn himself an invite to the PBR Future Games here and INF Vidal Colon (University School, 2023) established himself as a high-follow member of the state's junior class. We’re headed back again this year on March 19, with even greater expectations.
