Left-handed hitting OF Dominic Battista (Oswego East, 2026) has shown well to our staff across multiple spots this year and he wrapped up his summer with another strong look at the Illinois State Games. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound sophomore has above-average bat speed from a short, direct swing that produced line drive contact throughout his BP round. Battista continued to prove he’s an advanced pure hitter for his age, picking up a few hits in the gameplay portion of this event, including a double. He looks the part of a quality defender in the outfield too with fluid, athletic footwork and a strong arm that topped at 87 mph in his workout.

Hit leadoff in his game on Monday. Had a strong game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three singles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Showed well above-average speed by stealing two bases, taking extra bases, and advancing on balls in the dirt. Used his speed in the field to play a quality centerfield getting efficient jumps and reading balls well off the bat. Made a diving play late in the game to save a double.
6/17/23
Went 3-for-4 on the day with two doubles and a single. Each ball was hit hard, and showed power to all fields. Batista has a smooth lefty swing and is able to get off his A-swing each time with balance through contact. Showed well-above average base running, taking extra bases and advancing on balls in the dirt.

Battista emerged as one of the top players at The Rock this weekend. Athletic, 5-foot-11, 165 pound frame with room to grow. Impressed at the plate on Thursday showing off feel for the barrel with three hits including a double. Hands work quickly to the ball and are loose. Explosive swing that worked to the middle of the field. Flashed some power to the pull-side with a towering double. Quick runner out of the box. Above average movements in the OF. A high-follow 2026 to keep an eye on the rest of the summer.
