Illinois commit. Currently ranked No. 32 in the state’s 2025 class. Strong, physical 6-foot-4, 224-pound build. This was our second look at Putty this spring, and we mentioned him in our Week 5 Scout Blog. The right-hander got the start at first base and batted leadoff. He went 1-for-2 on the day, collecting two RBIs. The lone hit came in the second inning, turning on a 1-1 fastball to drive in a runner. In his third at-bat of the game, Putty came a few feet short of a home run to left field, which resulted in a long sacrifice fly to give his team the lead. With quick hands, Putty has easy power to the pull-side of the field.
Illinois commit, currently ranked No. 32 in the state, Putty had a solid all-around day at both the plate, and later in the game on the mound. At the plate, he swatted a solo home run to the pull-side on a hanging breaking ball to bring Huntley to within one run when they were down 3-1 at the time. His next at-bat was perhaps even more impressive; with the bases loaded, down one run with one out, Putty worked a nine pitch at-bat where he fouled off six pitches before hitting a line drive single past the shortstop into left field to tie the game up. He tallied three hits total offensively on the day. He also hopped on the bump to close the game out for the Red Raiders, and worked a scoreless inning, punching out two batters. His fastball worked in the 82-85 mph range, and he also spun in a low 70’s breaking ball for his secondary offering.
The 6-foot-4, 224-pound Putty also had some of the day’s better Blast Motion metrics - 23.7 mph average hand speed, 80.2 mph average bat speed - and squared his hardest ball up at 96.9 mph with his furthest traveling 346 feet, per TrackMan.
