FACA All Star Game 5/24-5/25/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

Juan Hillman – LHP – 6’2, 185 – Olympia HS – Has been a very consistent performer for the past year for the most part. Typically 90-92 early and settling at 88-90, Juan came out and bumped a few 94’s and 95’s this past weekend. The CV still comes and goes at 73-76 mph but he threw some above avg CHG at 77-78 mph with good arm speed and FB life. He may have helped himself a bit but I don’t think he needed to. He will be a high draft.

Logan Allen- LHP- 6’3, 190 – IMG Academy – A polished lefty with a good delivery and a FB at 90-92 with arm side run and downhill tilt. The CV is occasionally an avg ML pitch at 72-74. He was more of an 86-90 guy before this Spring but had made a jump and had a very good, very consistent Spring. Could be a good draft.

Thomas Szapucki – LHP – 6’0, 190 – Dwyer HS – Had a very good Spring and has been heavily scouted all Spring which is why I don’t think his average kind of outing this weekend will hurt him at all. He was 88-92 mph with life but I had seen him up to 95 this Spring. His CV was 76-78 with depth and a CHG at 80-81. His FB and CV are both plus ML pitches and his CHG is a work in progress. He’s got a loose quick live arm. He will need to tweak his delivery to improve his somewhat erratic command. He gets a bit deep in back with a high front side and needs to stay over the rubber longer to come out of that and not leave his arm behind. Top of the draft stuff from the left side will still get him an early call in the draft.

Nick Kennedy – LHP – 6’1, 200 – Alonso HS – A loose whippy live arm from a low ¾ slot with a thick body and strong lower half. His FB is 88-91 with tailing life. The SL was a short tight slurve with some depth at 82-83 mph. He occasionally raises his slot and tries to get over it. The CHG was 80-81. Avg type stuff with pitchability. Is a draftable kid if he’s signable.

Garret Bye – LHP – 6’0, 160 – Tampa-Riverview HS – Smaller framed guy with a quick arm and a good delivery. Showed 2 pitches for strikes. Could spot up his FB at 87-90 with tailing life. Showed some feel for commanding the SL at 77-81. It was a short tight downer that he could bury down and in to right handed hitters and it was a solid avg ML pitch. I like his energy and his aggressiveness. Could be a draft.

Shane McClanahan – LHP – 6’2, 170 – Lean projectable body with a quick arm at a low ¾ slot. His FB was 88-92 with tailing life and his CV was 74-76 mph with a sweeping break  that occasionally breaks both planes. Had some effort in his delivery but another big arm from the left side. Has made a jump this Spring in velocity and has attracted many scouts.  Has recently de-committed from Charleston Southern and should be a decent draft.

Hunter Bowling – LHP – 6’8, 225 – American Heritage Del-Ray – Very tall athletic guy with a live arm. His FB was 86-90 with arm side tailing life from a ¾ slot. CV was 74-77 with ¾ rotation, a fringy ML pitch but threw it for strikes. Has good feel for the CHG at 78-79 mph with same action as FB. Velocity has been up and down, but scouts that haven’t forgotten the 94 mph FB they’ve seen in the past will draft him.

Jared Padgett – LHP – 6’4, 200 – Graceville HS – Tall loose lean athletic projectable body. Loose quick arm from an over hand slot. Has good tilt on the FB at 88-91 with some arm side run. CV is a downer at 75-77 mph, and an avg ML pitch. High energy and aggressive on the mound. Lands slightly open and occasionally comes off the ball leaving some FB up in the zone. Should be a good draft if signable.

Mike Zimmerman – LHP – 6’3, 185 – Gulf Coast HS – Lean loose projectable body with a loose whippy arm. FB has tailing life at 86-88 mph. CV is ML avg and has a ¾ rotation with occasional depth at 74-75 mph.  Throws both for strikes. Opens a little early in back but is fairly consistent out front. Could be a draft but may be tough getting out of U of Florida.

Mack Lemieux – LHP – 6’3, 195 – Jupiter HS – Tall lean athletic projectable body with a loose easy working arm and a good delivery from a high ¾ slot. FB was 86-88 with tail and some tilt. SL was a short tight downer at 79-81 and flashed an avg ML pitch. Good feel for the CHG at 76-80. Has a lot of upside. Stuff will improve with physical maturity. Could be a draft.

Brady Singer – RHP – 6’5, 205 - Eustis HS – Came out after 2 batters due to cramping in the lower back area from dehydration maybe. Did throw to 2 batters and looked pretty amped up to let it fly. I love his energy and aggressiveness on the mound, and oh yea, he was 91-93 with late life along with a breaking ball that broke 2 planes and flashed above avg at 74-76, as well as a CHG at 84-85 with sink. Loose easy working arm with very good arm speed from a low ¾ slot and a tall loose lean body that scouts love to project on. Should be a high pick.

Cole Sands – RHP – 6’2, 200 – North Florida Christian HS – Strong athletic body with a good delivery that is repeatable. High ¾ slot with a loose easy quick arm. FB was 88-92 and downhill. Has a solid avg 3 pitch mix that he can throw for strikes. Wasn’t his best outing but I don’t think he hurt himself. I’ve seen him up to 94 with a plus breaking ball. Appeared to be getting his FB up in the zone and working around his SL at 83-84 mph. I still see him as a good draft.

Jake Woodford – RHP – 6’4, 210 – Plant HS – Big strong pitchers body with a FB at 91-94 and downhill from a high ¾ slot. Has effort in the delivery but a strong durable body as well. His secondary stuff was fringy but I’ve seen the SL anywhere from below avg to above avg at 76-79 mph. In the past it’s been up to 83 mph. He’s really got to stay back and release out front to get over it and get depth. The CHG was 82-83 with some feel. Fringy right now. Should be a good draft.

Logan Crouse – RHP – 6’6, 220 – Bloomingdale HS – Tall athletic kid who played football as well. He has a loose easy working arm with good finish out front. He opens a bit early in back but repeats his delivery and is consistent out front. His FB has very good tilt leveraging his tall frame very well. The SL was a short tight downer with good depth. An above avg ML pitch that he threw for strikes. I think he helped himself this weekend. Should be a good draft but has signed with FSU.

Ryan McKay – RHP – 6’3, 190 – Satellite HS – Tall athletic durable pitchers body with a quick arm and a fluid delivery at a high ¾ slot. He is deep in back with a drop and drive delivery. The ball jumps out of his hand. His FB was 90-93 with what appeared to be a 2 seamer at 86-87 mph. His SL was a short downer at 81-82 mph. Looked like an avg ML pitch. A power arm that could go fairly high in the draft may not get to High Point University.

Derek West – RHP – 6’5, 230 – Deltona Trinity Christian HS – Big body with a big arm. FB was 90-93 with a long loose whippy arm from a ¾ slot. A tough angle against right handed hitters. He showed a fringy CV at 72-76 mph and a CHG at 80-85 mph. The knock on West in the past has been his inability to throw strikes consistently and repeat his delivery. However, this weekend he put 2 innings together where he pounded the strike zone with power stuff and ended up with the East squad MVP.

Cole Kragel – RHP – 6’9, 220 – Venice HS – Very tall lean and athletic for his size. He is a submarine guy that is a bit unconventional due to the very low slot but he is highly effective.  His FB is 86-88 with late life and a very tough angle against right handed hitters. He also has a very good breaking ball at 79-80 mph with some depth, which is very difficult to throw from that slot. He also shows a CHG at 78-79 mph with the same sink as his FB. Was 13-0 on a state championship team.  A winner! These guys don’t often go high in the draft but they can still pitch in the big leagues. He reminds me of Darrin O’Day, who was a non-drafted free agent out of UF who pitched in the big leagues.

Andrew Cabezas – RHP – 5’11, 185 - Coral Gables HS – Undersized right hander that won’t be a high draft but has good stuff with pitchability. He comes at you from a ¾ slot that occasionally drops to low ¾, and a FB with heavy sink from 87-92 mph. He is very tough on right handed hitters. He shows a sweeping CV with good rotation at 74-75 mph and a SL at 80-83 mph that is just a shorter CV with better velocity. Both breaking balls are effective. Also a CHG with sink at 78-81 mph. He has a loose whippy arm action and while his body is not huge, it is strong and athletic.

Nate Pearson – RHP – 6’6, 225 – Bishop McLaughlin HS – Huge thick body with strength. FB was up to 93 with sink and occasional glove side cut action. CV was soft and loopy at 70-72 mph. Has a young face in a big body. Will throw a little harder and may have to go to a SL but could be a draft. Also showed big raw power in BP.

Gentry Fortuno – RHP – 6’2, 225 – Flanagan HS – A big thick body with strength in his lower half. As mentioned before, he doesn’t light up the gun but he has a clean arm and a good delivery with very good pitchability. His FB at 86-89 mph will continue to get better with age. He repeats his delivery and has very good feel for pitching. His CV is a bit soft at 68-69 and his CHG is 80-81. He commands the FB and throws secondary stuff for strikes. He has had a great High School career. A winner. Somebody may give him a chance.

Mike Byrne - RHP - 6'3,190 - Olympia HS - Loose lean projectable body with very good pitchability. FB 86-89 with glove side cut action. Showed an avg ML CV at 74-76 mph. 3/4 rotation with depth. Showed an avg ML CHG as well at 76-78 mph with same action as FB. Very good arm speed. Good pitchability. Throws 3 pitches for strikes. Has had a great HS career. Headed to UF.

Ryan Mountcastle – SS – 6’3, 195 – Hagerty HS – Tall lean body that looked stronger and starting to fill out. Has good hitters hands with a good path and solid approach. Showed some raw power in BP but has doubles power in both gaps in the game. Stays inside ball well and makes a lot of hard contact to all fields. Very aggressive hitter. Attacks ball. Occasionally gets too aggressive which isn’t a bad thing for this age. He squares a lot of balls up and has been for a long time. Tremendous hand eye. His bat is good enough to overlook some defensive flaws. Should be a good draft.

Julian Infante – 3B – 6’3, 190 – Westminster Christian – Tall blocky strong body with strength and quickness in swing. Has a good path with good hand eye. Stays inside ball well and has power to all fields. A very smart hitter that makes adjustments during each at bat. Good hitting instincts with no fear. Excellent 2 strike approach. Should be a draft but could be tough to get out of Vandy.

Jackson Lueck - C - 6’1, 175 – Orangewood Christian – Lean athletic projectable body. Good hitters hands from both sides of the plate with a good path and good bat speed. Very good hand eye with the ability to adjust each at bat. Stays inside ball well and has doubles power in both gaps. Power will continue to come as he physically matures. Smart hitter with a good approach from both sides. Could be a good draft if somebody likes his defensive skills.

Nick Fortes - C - 6’0, 205 – Deland HS – Thick strong stocky durable catchers body. Has a lot of quickness and strength in the bat with a very good path. Gets back spin on balls. Above avg power. Makes a lot of hard contact with authority to both gaps. Drove one in the left center gap that was run down by the center fielder. Again, could be a good draft if somebody likes his defensive skills.

Jonathan India – SS – 6’0, 190 – American Heritage Del-Ray – Thick athletic body. Another offensive guy at a defensive position. Aggressive approach with good bat speed and a good path. Barrel stays in the zone and gets back spin on balls. Gets loft on balls pull side. Has doubles power in both gaps. Makes a lot of hard contact. Has competitive at bats. Solid avg power with a little more to come. Could be a good draft but maybe not good enough to get out of U of Florida.

Justin Cohen – C – 6’0, 200 – Sarasota-Riverview HS – Athletic strong muscular lower half for durability. Solid receiver with an avg to above avg arm. Release was a bit slow but threw a guy out stealing 2B with strength and accuracy. Also showed plus raw power in BP and made a lot of hard contact in the game. Will have to quicken up release to be a consistent 2.0 around the bag. Could be a draft but may not be able to get him away from FSU.

Mike Rojas –C – 6’2, 200 – Gulf Coast HS – Strong durable catchers body. Solid receiver with an avg arm. Good catch and throw skills. Good mobility, blocks well. Has some strength and quickness in the bat. Hit a HR in the game. Avg power. He is an avg tools kind of guy which makes him a very good player at that position. Should be a draft.

Nick Fortes – C – 6’0 – 205 – Deland HS – Stocky strong durable catchers body. Solid receiving skills with an avg type release and a below avg arm. Shows leadership and take charge ability behind the dish. Will have to quicken up release or arm strength to stay back there. Very offensive guy. Can really swing the bat with power. Offense is ahead of his defense right now. His draft status will be dependent on his signability.

Eli Marrero – C – 5’9, 195 - Coral Gables HS – Shorter stocky strong durable catchers body. Good all around player. Good catch and throw skills with quick release and below avg arm. Can throw runners out. Good offensive player with surprising power for smaller guy. Good hand eye and good hitters hands. Hits the ball to all fields. Ran a 6.87 60. Great make up guy with take charge ability. Plays above his tools. Should be a draft.

Dominic DiCaprio – C – 6’0, 205 - Stoneman Douglas HS – Stocky strong durable catchers body. Offensive catcher with strength and quickness in bat. Avg type power. Made a lot of hard contact in game. Solid receiver with a fringy arm and quick release. Will need to quicken up release or strengthen arm to stay back there. Great make up. High energy with leadership type guy.  Should be a draft but could be hard to get away from Rice.

Jackson Lueck – C – 6’1, 175 - Orangewood Christian – Lean athletic projectable body. Will continue to gain lower half strength for durability for that position. Another offensive guy at a defensive position. Very good hitter with good rhythm, balance and quickness in bat. Offense is much further ahead of defense. Good receiver with good hands and mobility. Blocks well. Good release with below avg arm. Needs to improve arm strength to stay back there. Is athletic enough to play other positions. Could be a good draft but could be tough to get away from FSU.

Jake Anchia – C – 6’2, 205 – Archbishop McCarthy HS – Thick strong durable catchers body. Solid receiver with good catch and throw skills. Showed an above avg arm. Some strength and quickness in bat with avg type power. Should be a draft depending on signability.

Garret Zech – OF – 6’1, 195 – Naples HS – Lean live very athletic body. Ran a 6.4 60. Good actions in OF with plus range and an above avg arm. Takes good routes with good reads. A legitimate ML CF. Unorthodox at the plate but made solid contact all weekend. Also took some swings from the left side in BP. Will need to revamp approach. Could be a good draft.

Jawuan Harris – OF – 5’11, 185 – St Thomas Aquinas – Very athletic live quick twitch body with strength. Reportedly ran a sub 6.3 60. His speed is a superior tool. Has decent actions in OF with some crudeness but will out run his mistakes. Has legitimate chance to play CF. Has quickness and strength in bat. Hit a double to start off the weekend. Avg ML power. Is disruptive on the bases and can become a legitimate base stealer.  Has a football scholarship to Rutgers. Would like to see him play baseball full time. Could be a good draft.

Chris Chatfield – OF – 6’3, 190 – Spoto HS – Tall lean athletic very projectable body. Good actions in the OF with a below avg arm. Ran a 6.7 60. Above avg range but not ideal for a ML CF. Will probably move to LF. Has quickness and wiry strength in bat. Above avg power now with much more to come depending on how body develops. Could be a good draft.

Terry Bennett – OF – 6’0, 205 – Atlantic Coast HS – Thick strong live muscular mature body. Showed quickness and strength in the bat. Some loft in swing. Had a hit in the game. Reportedly ran a 6.45 60. Decent actions on OF with below avg arm. Looks like a corner OF.

Jacob Silverstein – OF – 6’2, 185 – Seminole HS – Lean live loose athletic projectable body. Good actions in OF with good instincts. Good reads and routes. Tracks ball well. Ran a 6.76 60. Below avg arm. Quickness in bat with below avg power. Good hand eye. Bat will continue to improve with added strength.

Dillon Reed – OF – 6’3, 180 – Creekside HS – Tall loose lean projectable body with good actions. Made a diving catch in the gap. A web gem! Ran a 6.8 60. Smooth LH swing with avg type bat speed. Power will keep coming as the body develops. Has the frame to add good strength and size. Will become a corner OF.

Matthew Mika – SS – 5’10, 180 - Park Vista HS – Live athletic body on a smaller frame. Good all around player. Very good actions with soft hands and an avg arm. Can throw from different slots. Good instincts with a nose for the ball. Good first step quickness with plenty of range. Loose quick bat with surprising power. Aggressive hitter. Good hand eye and stays inside ball well. Uses the whole field. Aggressive on bases with good instincts. Takes risks. Earlier in the year I said he reminded me of Eckstein but he takes a hack more like Pedroia. Somebody will draft him.

Jonathon India – SS – 6’0, 190 – American Heritage Del-Ray – Athletic body with good actions and an above avg arm. Has solid hands with enough range right now. May outgrow the position in the future, but has plenty of offense to play anywhere on the field. Has bat speed and strength with an aggressive approach and a good path. Shows hitting instincts with above avg power. Shows overall instincts for the game with a grinder type make up. Should be a good draft.

Zack Kone – SS – 6’3, 195 – Pine Crest HS – Big athletic live body. Very athletic for his size. Ran a 6.55 60. Loose actions with soft hands in infield with an avg ML arm. Not a true SS but will be an above avg defender at 3B. Short quick stroke with above avg power. Good bat speed with a good path. Gets hands started a bit late and lacks rhythm but quickness in hands allow the barrel to get there most of the time. Could be a good draft but will have to buy out of Duke.

Ryan Karstetter – 3B – 6’3, 200 – IMG Academy – Another big physical athletic live projectable body. Played some SS but not a true SS. Had loose actions with softness in hands and a solid avg arm. Is an above avg runner. Has quickness and some strength in bat with avg to above avg power. Swing has length to it. Likes the ball down. Will have big power when that body starts to fill out. Could be a good draft but could be tough to get out of Virginia.

LT Tolbert – SS – 6’3, 185 – IMG Academy – Tall lean loose athletic projectable body. Good actions with softness in the glove and a solid avg arm. Lacks enough range to stay at this position but has good baseball instincts. Makes the routine plays. Also very good on the offensive side as well. Avg type power with good hand eye. Avg type bat speed, stays inside ball well and uses the whole field. Adjusts during at bats. Good hitting instincts. Good all around player. Strength will continue to come. Only negative is below avg runner. Was also up to 889 off the mound. Will be  a draft after college.

Romy Gonzalez – SS – 6’2, 200 – American HS – Thick strong physical body. Showed good actions with soft hands and an above avg arm. Lacks range for that position but moves well for a big guy. Ran a 6.65 60. Will have to move to 3B and I may even consider this guy a catcher. Has strength and quickness in the bat with above avg power. Had a couple hits in the games. Made a lot of hard contact. Could be a draft.

Keyshawn Lynch – SS – 5’10, 185 – Haines City HS – Smaller framed live body guy with good actions and plenty of range with softness in his hands. Below avg arm which makes him a 2B. Quick bat with a good path. Works down through the ball and gets backspin. Surprising power for a smaller guy. A lot of quickness in his game. Ran a 6.6 60. Could be a draft.

Matt Morales – SS – 6’0, 170 – Wellington HS – Lean loose live athletic body. Continues to get stronger. Ran a 6.6 60. Good actions with soft hands and avg ML arm. Good reads, takes good angles to ball. Plenty of range. Has quickness in bat with good hand eye. Good path, stays inside ball. Bat will continue to improve with physical strength.  Could be a draft.

Tyler Frank – SS - 6’0, 175 – American Heritage Del-Ray – Lean loose athletic projectable body with good actions and soft hands. Fringy arm which may move him to 2B. Takes aggressive routes to ball. High energy guy. Has quickness in bat with below avg power. Bat will continue to improve with added strength. Makes contact.

Daniel Reyes – OF – 6’2, 210 – Mater Academy – Big strong physical body. Good bat speed and strength in swing with a powerful body. Swing is uphill with a lot of lift. Hit balls out of sight in BP this weekend. Aggressive approach in games with same uphill swing. Occasionally makes adjustments. Likes to lift ball down in zone. Will need to adjust to FB up and breaking stuff in order to increase contact frequency.

Jason Heinrich – OF/1B – 6’1, 205 – River Ridge HS – Very strong muscular compact body. Explosive bat speed and strength in a powerful body. Also hit some balls out of sight this past weekend in BP. Has a good path but swing can get uphill when he tries to launch. Gets more distance and contact frequency when hands stay through the zone and keeps his good bat path. Put on a clinic last Fall in Jupiter.

Julian Infante – 3B – 6’3, 190 – Westminster Christian – Big strong blocky body. Has a lot of strength and quickness in his hands with a good approach. Has a good path and stays inside the ball well. He is already starting to get to a lot of his power because of his approach. Showed power in BP but hit a moon shot to right center in the game. I was impressed with his ability to manipulate the barrel even when he was off balance. Will also hit for avg.

Lorenzo Hampton – OF – 6’5, 205 – Monsignor Pace – Tall lean athletic body. Quickness and strength in bat with long levers. Gets good extension but has length in swing. Took a good BP this past weekend but I’ve seen him take a mammoth BP, every bit as good as Reyes, in the past. Will need to improve contact frequency by learning his strengths and weaknesses and taking advantage of those strengths. In other words, developing a better approach.

Tyrone Perry - 1B – 6’1, 240 – Lakeland HS – Big thick heavy body. Explosive bat speed and strength. Didn’t necessarily take a great BP over the weekend, but again I’ve seen him hit moon shots, both in BP and in games. Has plenty of loft in his swing. Must be more consistent in his approach in order to increase contact frequency. He gets in trouble when he becomes a pull hitter. Tends to work around the ball and lose power. When he is locked in, he drives ball in both gaps with power, and is a much better hitter with much more hard contact.

Dwyer vs Royal Palm Beach 4/23/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RHP Triston McKenzie Royal Palm Beach HS (2015)
Vanderbilt signee. 6-foot-5, 165 pound right hander. Fast ball was 88-93 mph mostly sitting at 90-91mph.Fast ball had good down tilt with life on both sides of the plate and deception in his delivery. Commanded his fast ball well and kept his velocity the entire game. Touched 93 mph in the 6th inning. Competed very well. The curve ball was a downer with depth, an above avg ML pitch. The change up had the same life as the fast ball and threw it for strikes with very good arm speed. Secondary stuff was very good and consistent tonight. Also tied the game at 1 with a line drive single. The body and arm action are very projectable. Is positioning himself to be a high 2015 draft. If this kid shows up at college, he could be a top 5 pick.

+ LHP Thomas Szapucki Dwyer HS (2015)
Florida signee. 6-foot-2, 190 pound lefty who has been pretty consistent this Spring and continued that tonight with a wide range in fast ball velocity at 87-94 mph, but mostly around 91-92 mph. Could reach back and get 94 mph whenever he wanted to. Flashed a plus curve ball with good ¾ rotation and depth. Command was a bit erratic but still has top of the draft type stuff. Will have a decision to make in June.

+ SS Brandon Hernandez Royal Palm Beach HS (2015)
5-foot-10, 170 pound infielder with solid short stop actions and an accurate ML average arm. May have to move to second base in the future but can play short stop. Nothing flashy or that jumps out at you but makes the routine plays and doesn’t make mistakes. A guy that grows on you in time. If the bat continues to develop, he can play D1, which I think is a possibility. He is a baseball player with high energy and knows how to play.

+ Adrian Gomez Hialeah HS (2017)

Lakewood Ranch vs Sarasota 4/7/15

+ RHP Scotty Stout Lakewood Ranch HS (2015)
6-foot 175 pound senior committed to Florida Gulf Coast.  Athletic build and lean frame, throws from a ¾ arm slot and has a bit of a drop and drive type delivery.  Showed good command of three pitches: fastball, breaking ball, and change up.  Had a slight tendency to drag his arm a little bit when he didn’t get on top of pitches which caused him to be up in the zone but for the majority of the night he was on top and throwing his fastball on a good downward plane and was able to work both sides of the plate.  His changeup was his best pitch of the night, threw it at any point in the count and had hitters off balance all night.  Breaking ball was a 11-5 pitch that showed good depth.  Competed well on the mound and had a feel for how to pitch and get good hitters out.  5 2/3 IP (game was shortened due to rain) 3H, 4K, 2BB.

+ C Matt Roberts Lakewood Ranch HS (2015)
Committed to Florida Gulf Coast a 5-foot-11 180 point senior catcher.  Very athletic behind the plate, has good feet and a strong arm behind the plate, had a 2.05 POP time in between innings.  At the plate has a quick bat and gets the barrel to the ball.  Caught up to a high fast ball and hit a long double to LF for an RBI.

+ SS Cameron Pearcey Lakewood Ranch HS (2015)
5-foot-10 165 pound senior committed Coastal Carolina.  Lean, slender frame but very athletic and fast twitch.  Hits from a slightly open stance and has a quick swing that allows him to get the barrel to the ball easily.  Gets good extension which allows him to get some good carry on balls.  Has great speed and in the infield has good actions and a strong arm to make all the throws from SS.  Has the ability to make the great play from SS, had a ball in the hole where he slid, backhanded a hard hit ball, popped to his feet and threw a strike to get a runner with good speed.

+ 3B Cody Brickhouse Sarasota HS (2015)
Chipola College commit, 6-foot-2 210 pound senior.  Was 1-3 on the night, with a single in the first.  Continued to show a good bat speed, extension, and carry on the balls he hit.  Single was a line drive into LCF – hard hit ball.  Defensively showed good instincts and a solid arm in the field.

Polk State College commit, 6-foot-1 175 pound senior with a lean frame, has room to fill and is a very athletic outfielder.  At the plate has a line drive swing path and stays inside the ball well, gets good extension.  Hits the ball where it is pitched, has good hands and got on top of a high fastball and hit a line drive into leftfield against Lakewood Ranch.  Good actions in the outfield and good speed on the bases.

+ OF Matt Schlabach Sarasota HS (2015)
Senior outfield committed to Nova Southeastern, 6-foot-1 210 pound senior with a strong build.  At the plat hits from a slightly open stance and has a good set-up and approach.  Throughout the season has shown the ability to consistently get the barrel on the ball and hit hard line drive to all areas of the field.  Does a great job of going the other way and using the opposite field, showed that against Lakewood Ranch hitting a fastball on the outside third of the plate for a line drive into RF.  Athletic in the outfield with a strong arm and quick release.

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ LHP Anthony Masiello North Broward Prep (2016)
Miami commit. 5-foot-11, 160 pound lefty who is crafty and throws a lot of strikes and changes speeds with all of his pitches. Got hit around in this game, but had shut out Pine Crest earlier in the season. Knows what he’s doing on the hill. Fast ball sinks and tails at 82-85 mph. Drops a soft downer curve ball in for strikes. Change up is also quality pitch.

+ 3B Zack Kone Pine Crest (2015)
Duke signee. Had a very hard-hit double to left field, then homered to straightaway center field. Is putting together a great Spring both offensively and defensively and working his way into becoming a 2015 draft.

+ LHP Garrett Rukes Pine Crest (2016)
Alabama commit. 6-foot-3, 160 pound lefty who pitched well. Fast ball was 83-86 mph with avg angle and some tailing life. Threw curve ball and changeup for strikes. Both secondary pitches were a bit soft and below avg on the pro scale, but there’s some projection there in the body and sound mechanics.

Plant vs Wharton 4/2/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ OF Clayton Coringrato Wharton HS (2017)
6-foot-3 190 pounds with a tall, lean, and projectable body. Long, loose strides as a runner with loose actions offensively and defensively. Good separation in his load and has a nice swing plane. Swing is a little long right now but the ball jumps off his bat. Bat speed and power will increase with strength and maturity.

+ INF John Shields Plant HS (2017)
6-foot-2 175 pounds with an athletic, lean, and projectable body. Was the DH in tonight’s game. Open stance, quiet at the plate. Good separation with a nice swing plane.

+ INF Drew Ehrhard Wharton HS (2017)
5-foot-10 165 pounds with an athletic and lean body with some strength. Good actions in the field and really bounces around. Soft hands and quick/light feet with a playable arm. At the plate he has a nice separation and a good hand load. Short/quick swing and stays inside the ball well. Looked like above average speed and plays the game hard.

Sarasota vs Venice 4/2/15

+ RHP Cole Kragel Venice HS (2015)
6-foot-8 215 senior committed to Virginia Tech.  Was dominant against Sarasota with his sidearm/submarine delivery that showed great movement and life on his fastball and a sweeping breaking ball that he threw for a strike at any time in the count.  Also showed a changeup but wasn’t really needed against Sarasota.  Was around the zone all night with his two pitch mix, was dominant most of the night, threw 4 innings of the 5 inning shortened game.  4 IP, 1H, 6K, 1BB.

+ SS/2B Scott Dubrule Venice HS (2016)
5-foot-11 165 pound junior middle infielder committed to Jacksonville.  Lean, thin build but is very athletic with room to fill out.  Very good left handed hitter who consistently puts the barrel on the ball.  Has improved and look better each time I’ve seen him throughout the year.  Was 2-3 with a BB and 2B line drive into RCF that got to the wall in a hurry, his only out was a hard line out to first base, final at bat was a line drive base hit into CF.  Has a very compact swing with good extension and bat speed.  Stays inside the ball well and hits it where it is pitched.  Good speed and has a great glove although he didn’t get many opportunities to showcase that against Sarasota.

+ C Jake Grubbs Venice HS (2017)
6-foot-1 200 pound junior catcher with a strong, athletic build.  Moves very well for his size and is a has good feet and a strong arm behind the plate.  His best pop time in between innings was 1.95 and in the game on a pitch where he had to reach across his body for he was 2.11.  On another SB attempt in the game he was 1.98 pop time.  Strong hitter at the plate, has a stride and separate set up and a good up the middle approach.  Earlier in the season he seemed a little pull happy but against Sarasota he had two line drive base hits into CF.

+ SS Shane Shifflett Venice HS (2017)
Only a sophomore and already committed to UCF.  5-foot-11 165 pounds and has a lean thin build but will fill out more as he matures.  At the plate he has a stride and separate approach, is quick to the ball and gets good extension that allows him to drive the ball to all fields.  Hit a long line drive over the RF’s head that got to the wall, that allowed him to show his speed as well as he made it in for a stand up triple.  Very good defensively and has a strong arm although, like Dubrule, didn’t have too much of an opportunity to showcase it.

+ OF Brent Killam Venice HS (2016)
5-foot-10 160 pound junior outfielder.  Very athletic outfielder with a lean build and room to fill out, only a junior and looked more and more advanced at the plate each time I’ve seen him.  Was 2-3 against Sarasota including a line drive between SS and 3B and an RBI single into RF.  Does a great job of keeping his hands inside the ball and driving the ball where it is pitched, can go the other way real well.  The only out he made was on a ball in the 5-6 hole and was robbed of a hit by Sarasota SS Alex Arruz.  Good speed and a solid OF.

+ SS Alex Arauz Sarasota HS (2017)
Sophomore, 6-foot-1 185 pound SS who is very strong, athletic, and has gotten a lot better since the start of the season.  Hitting at the top of the lineup for a talented team and now the everyday SS for a program with great tradition and talented juniors and seniors.  Good actions in the infield and has the arm to play SS.  Made a play (on Brent Killam, so he has good speed) in the hole where he backhanded hard hit GB, planted and threw a strike to beat the runner.  Going to be a top SS as he has the ability and arm to play there.  He did make a couple of throwing errors late in the game but these were just because he wasn’t getting his feet underneath him on his throws, something that should be easily corrected.  At the plate, he was not overmatched against a top arm in Kragel.  Had the only hit of the night for Sarasota, a line drive into LCF and also walked in his opening at bat.  Good speed as he had two stolen bases where he got great jumps and beat the good throw both times.

+ 3B Cody Brickhouse Sarasota HS (2015)
Senior, 6-foot-2 210 pound Chipola College commit.  Big, strong, athletic 3B who has a short, quick swing, is very fast to the ball, and gets good extension.  Had a great at bat against Kragel in the first, with two strikes fouled off fringe pitches until he got a pitch he could handle and drove it into RF, it was a flyout but ball was hit well and showed that he has a good approach at the plate.  In the field showed the ability and arm to play 3B.  Made a real nice play on a bunt he had to charge, bare hand, and throw on the run to get the runner.

+ C Carson Keyser Sarasota HS (2015)
Senior, 5-foot-11 2015 pound catcher, committed to Indian River State College.  Strong, athletic frame with a big physical presence behind the plate and in the box.  Defensively is a workhorse behind the plate, does a good job of blocking balls in the dirt and working behind the plate.  Has good feet and a strong arm behind the plate, pop time was at 2.06 in between innings.  At the plate he has some good potential but is still a bit raw.  Throughout the times that I’ve seen him he has shown some good power potential and that could still increase if he learns to use his strength and hands properly at the plate.

Coral Gables vs South Miami 4/1/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ C Eli Marrero Coral Gables HS (2015)

Fast ball was 89-92 mph with heavy sink. Slider was 80-81 mph that was a bit inconsistent showing some below avg and some above avg. Survived a bases loaded jam in the first inning giving up only one run. After the first inning he settled in and shut them down the rest of the way with out his best stuff. Final line was 5 innings pitched, 5 hits, 1 run, 0 BB, 7 K’s.

+ CF Anthony Valdes Coral Gables HS (2015)
Stillman College signee. Hard hit line drive triple into the right center field gap for an RBI.

+ RHP Jose Padron Coral Gables HS (2015)
Jackson St. signee. 6-foot-3, 220 pound right hander who pitched the final two innings for a dominant save. Fastball was 86-90 mph with a downer slider from an over hand slot. Has a reliever type look but very physical and threw a lot of strikes.

+ RHP Ernesto Pino South Miami HS (2015)
6-foot-3, 185 pound right hander with a good body and a good delivery. Fast ball was 85-89 mph. Curve ball was a bit soft but arm and body are projectable and he will improve velocity with physical maturity. Breaking ball will also improve with velocity.

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ LHP Michael Sandborn Tampa Jesuit (2016)
Vanderbilt commit. 6-foot-1, 180 pounds with a lean, athletic body and some strength. Works at a good pace and is confident on the mound. Takes ball out in line and he lands in line. Has a shorter, more compact arm action. Very good arm side run on his fastball at 85-88 mph. Tight slurve that has a late break and breaks two planes at 74-77 mph. Works down and paints the corners well. Gets a lot of groundballs.

+ RHP Jared Cenal Tampa Catholic (2016)
Uncommitted junior. 6-foot-4 170 pounds with a tall, lanky, and projectable body. Quick motion. Takes ball out in line and he lands in line. High ¾ arm slot with a loose working arm. Threw a four seam and two seam, both had arm side run. Two seam runs down and in. Two seam was 83-84 mph and four seam was 85-86 mph. 73-75 slow slider that has more width than depth but breaks early. A bit flat. Needs work on off speed. Velocity should increase with added strength and maturity.

Sarasota vs Cardinal Mooney 3/31/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ RHP/OF Tyler Mattes Cardinal Mooney (2016)
Uncommited junior. 6-foot-1 190 pounds with a lean, athletic, and strong body. Very strong legs. ML bloodlines as his uncle pitched for the Expos. 3 pitches for strikes. Very good CHG that he throws in all counts. Same arm speed as fastball and looks just like his fastball with late dive at 72-75 mph. Fringy CR that sometimes breaks well and sometimes doesn’t. Still throws it for strikes at 72-74 mph. 85-88 mph FB. Very good size in his family, likely still growing. Velocity should increase with maturity.

+ INF Alex Arauz Sarasota HS (2017)
Uncommitted. 6-foot-1 185 pounds with an athletic, lean, and strong body. Good-sized legs. Soft hands with quick, light feet in the field. Strong arm for his age with a short/over the top action. Takes good angles and attacks balls with good range. At the plate his hands are low and he gets a good separation. Flat swing with above average bat speed. Stays inside the ball well. Relaxed with good rhythm at the plate. Smooth and athletic actions all over the field.

+ RHP Jordan Gubelman Sarasota HS (2015)
North Carolina Signee. 6-foot-5 230 pounds with a big, strong, workhouse-type body. High ¾ arm slot with a fairly loose arm and a smooth delivery. Lands in line and his arm goes straight back after he breaks. 87-89 mph FB. 72-76 mph average ML CR with good depth. Flashed a 79-81 mph CHG. Had control issues against Cardinal Mooney. Up to 91-92 in the past. Body and arm action should make his velocity increase with strength and maturity.

Royal Palm Beach vs West Boca 3/31/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RHP Triston Mckenzie Royal Palm Beach HS (2015)
The Vandy signee threw a complete game and gave up two soft runs in the first inning. A leadoff walk, misplayed double-ball that should have been ruled an error, and two botched rundowns. He eventually settled down and became a strikeout machine after that. Fastball was 86-91 mph. His change up had good life and he threw it consistently for strikes. He flashed an above avg curve ball, but mostly ML avg. Final line was - 6 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 14 K

Dunedin vs Pinellas Park 3/31/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ C Justin Glover Dunedin HS (2015)
Uncommitted senior. 6-foot-2 230 pounds with a big, strong, and durable body. Could lose 10-15 pounds to get faster but still bounces well for his size behind the plate. Soft receiver and has a quick transfer. Short, over the top, and loose arm. Ideal for a catcher. Average ML arm with a 2.0 pop time. Lefty bat with a nice swing plane and slight upper cut. Uncommitted senior. 6-foot-3 190 pounds with a lean, athletic, and projectable body with some strength. High ¾ arm slot and has a good downward angle on his fastball when he stays on top. His arm goes straight back after he breaks and he lands in line. Throws a lot of strikes but when he misses it’s usually because he throws across his body. 83-87 mph FB. Fairly sharp 73-76 mph CR with good depth and late break, breaks two planes.

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ LHP Kade Hunkapiller Venice HS (2015)
State College of Florida commit. 5-foot-11 190 pounds. Knuckle-baller with a short, over the top arm action. Knuckle stays around 68 mph and dances pretty well. Keeps it down and keeps hitters off balance. Also throws a good amount of curveballs at 65 mph that have good depth and location. Will sneak a fastball every once in a while at 75-77 mph that he locates in and is able to sneak by hitters. Gave up one run against Killian in 4 1/3 IP.

North Carolina commit.  6-foot-5 230 pound senior with a solid build and great presence on the mound.  Threw a 5 inning perfect game against Braden River - 5 IP, 7 Ks.  He has a very smooth, fluid, over the top ¾ delivery that is easily repeated.  Has long and loose arm action, throws fastball on a downhill plane and commands both sides of the plate.  Hammered both corners and the bottom part of the zone all night long.  His breaking ball was his most impressive pitch of the night, was able to spot his breaking ball and throw it for a strike or bury it down in the zone when he had two strikes for a swing and miss pitch.  His breaking ball had hard, sharp, downward movement on it kept hitters off balance all night with this two pitch mix.  Showed a little bit of a change-up but really only needed two pitches all night, was dominant on the mound. Did not see any velocities last night but I've seen 88-92 mph fastball with a 78-81 mph breaking ball last Fall.

+ SS/2B Nick Long Sarasota HS (2016)
Florida commit.  6-foot-2 195 pound junior with a long, lean, athletic frame with room to fill out.  At the plate he has a pretty advanced approach – stands up right and has a good stride and separate approach that allows him to get the barrel on the ball easily with good extension.  Had two doubles on the night, one to right center and one off the fence in left.  Showed the ability to go the other way and the balls he hits have a lot of carry with more power to come.  Very good hitter, squared up the ball easily and gets great exit velo on the ball off the bat.  In the field he made all the plays that came his way at 2B, good arm and solid actions, seen at SS as well earlier in spring and looks just as comfortable there as at 2B.

+ 3B Cody Brickhouse Sarasota HS (2015)
Chipola College commit.  6-foot-2 210 pound senior.  Very good hitter, polished, advanced approach at the plate.  Has a short swing, quick hands, very fast to the ball, and gets good extension as the barrel stays in the zone for a long time.  Good set up at the plate and was 1-3 with a line drive up the middle, also had a SAC fly to right late in the game.  Everything he hits is hit hard, on the barrel.  He looks big at the plate and has a strong, athletic frame.  Good mobility at 3B as he made a couple nice plays over there, has a good arm and can make all the throws from third.

+ SS Alex Arauz Sarasota HS (2017)
Only a sophomore, 6-foot-1 185 pounds and playing SS and hitting leadoff for a great program and a team filled with talented upper classmen.  Lean, athletic frame with room to fill out and add strength.  Looks like an athlete in the batter’s box and in the field.  Made some real nice plays in the field, has good actions and the arm to play at SS.  Had a play in the fourth where he knocked down a ball in the hole, picked up the ball barehanded, and still threw out a fast runner at first.  Hits from a slightly open stance, and has good bat speed and will continue to develop as a hitter, was 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base against Braden River.

+ Aiden Wolfe Sarasota HS (2015)
5-foot-10 180 pound senior first basemen.  Had a great day at the plate against Braden River, was 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI.  Has a lean, athletic build, will continue to fill out and get stronger.  Has a quiet, simple approach at the plate that allows him to be short to the ball and use all feels.  Gets the barrel to the ball easily and uses all fields, doubled to right to drive in two to really break the game open.  Solid defensive first basemen.

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ C Kyle Kania Countryside HS (2016)
Uncommitted junior. 6-foot-3 185 pounds with a tall, lean, and projectable body. Quick transfer and solid arm from behind the plate. Needs to work on softer hands receiving. 2.0 pop time. At the plate he has an upright stance with a very small load, if any at all. Quiet with a soft stride. Loose swing, good swing plane. More power will come with strength and load.

+ OF Tommy Labella Countryside HS (2015)
Unsigned senior. 5-foot-11 170 pounds with an athletic body that has quick twitch movements. Very good speed, 4.1-4.2 home to first. Flat swing with a line drive approach.

+ OF/RHP Matt Allen Countryside HS (2017)
Uncommitted sophomore. 5-foot-10 150 pounds with a lean, athletic body. On the mound he has a long, high ¾ arm action. 80-83 mph fastball with arm side run. 64-68 mph curveball with a ¾ break and good depth. 72-73 mph decent changeup that he keeps down in the zone. Lands in line and takes ball out toward first base after he breaks. Paints the corners with his fastball and keeps his off speed down. No hitter against Northeast HS.

+ INF/OF Kobe Hartley Northeast HS (2017)
Uncommitted sophomore. 5-foot-9 155 pounds with a compact, athletic body. Open stance with good separation in his load. Good swing plane and his bat stays through the zone well. Short/quick swing. Up the middle/backside approach. Line drives to all fields.

Hollywood Hills vs St Thomas Aquinas 3/16/15

+ C Alex Dickinson St Thomas Aquinas (2015)
Princeton commit. 5-foot-11, 190 pound catcher. Medium, strong body and sound receiver with a plus arm. Throwing bullets on the money down to second base last night to gun down runners easily. They were trying to steal off him down 10 runs. Strength and quickness in the bat – 1 for 2 with a run and 2 RBI.

+ SS Gary Mattis St Thomas Aquinas (2016)
5-foot-10, 185 pound infielder. Athletic player with solid 2-way game. Has a chance to stay at short stop, and has strength, balance, and ability in the bat. 1 for 1 with 2 runs, RBI, and a walk last night.  Will see more and update, as I think he’s one of the better prospects for next year.

+ RHP Jordan Spicer St Thomas Aquinas (2015)
Polk St commit. 6-foot-2, 200 pound right hander with a skinny, projectable body, sound mechanics and loose arm. Fastball was 85-89 mph last night with a fair curve ball and change up. Secondary stuff has a ways to go, but has feel for the strike zone and overall projection.  Headed to Polk St, and will end up at a Division 1 program. Last night: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 5 SO.

+ C Anthony Mulrine St Thomas Aquinas (2016)
6-foot-1, 220 pound catcher that played DH last night.  Coaches say he’s a very good defender. Good catcher’s body – big, loose, and physical.  Easy, physical swing connected for a long home run last night – looks like he can swing the pole. If the defensive skills are there, he’s a solid D1 prospect.

West Orange vs Trinity Christian 3/16/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+RHP AJ Labas Trinity Christian (2017)
6-foot-3, 210 pound right hander with a thick strong body. Loose whippy arm with a high ¾ to low ¾ slot. Changes from time to time. Lands mostly in line but occasionally pulls off line and flies open causing his slot to change and fall off of the mound. Inconsistent command but fastball has good life at 85-88 mph. When he gets out front his ball has good tilt. Threw some change ups at 80-82 mph and occasionally would spin off of them, but had same life as fastball. Curve ball was a ¾ roller with occasional shape and rotation at 77-79 mph. Good looking young arm that will throw harder but needs to polish up delivery to get more consistency.

+ LHP Ethan Koehler West Orange HS (2016)
Tall lean loose projectable body with long loose arms and legs. Lose arm at a ¾ to low ¾ slot. Lands in line with a head snap at release. Fast ball has tail action at 83-85 mph. Curve ball had a slurvey break at 71-73 mph. Struggled to repeat it. Was better when he stayed on top and through it. Will throw harder with physical maturity.

+ OF/RHP JC Flowers Trinity Christian (2016)
6-foot-2, 180 pound outfielder with a tall loose lean live athletic projectable body. Very athletic actions in the outfield with a plus ML arm. Threw a guy out at home today from centerfield. Fair bat speed with some quickness in hands but lacks strength. Some crudeness to swing. Plus runner. Is being heavily recruited in football as well. On the mound he had a loose quick arm. Occasionally would hurry delivery and leave arm behind. Command was inconsistent. Fastball was 85-91 mph with occasional tilt and occasional late life. Curve ball was 74-77 mph with occasional depth when he released it out front. Change up was 76-77 mph with some fade. Slowed down to throw off speed stuff. Inconsistent release caused for inconsistent stuff and command. Needs some polishing but has an awful lot to work with.

+ 1B Jeff Fripp Trinity Christian (2016)
6-foot-2, 220 pound first baseman with a thick strong body similar to Frank Thomas. Loose quick bat with strength and bat speed. Smoked 2 fastballs up the middle today with authority. Missed some breaking balls by a lot. Has raw power. Must continue to work on approach to get to power. Adequate at first base. Can make routine plays. High maintenance body.

+ OF Logan Nugent Trinity Christian (2017)
6-foot-1, 190 pound outfielder with a strong blocky thick mature body with quickness and strength in the bat at a young age. Good bat speed with a good path that appears to stay inside ball well. Good hitters hands. Smoked a double in the right center field gap. 4.6 to first base. Not much action in the outfield but looked athletic enough. Still very young.

+ C Dominick Santiago Trinty Christian (2018)
5-foot-11, 170 pound catcher with a loose lean body. Solid receiver with mobility and a close to average ML arm. Was 2.0 to second base today. Young guy that plays with energy and made some nice blocks. Hustles. Good catch and throw guy. Didn’t get a great feel for the bat but defensive skills and his age alone make him interesting.

+ 3B Garrett Milchin West Orange HS (2016)
Florida commit. 6-foot-4, 175 pound third baseman with a tall loose laen athletic projectable body. Continues to have good at bats and play a good third base every time I see him. Uses the whole field and can drive ball to both gaps. Stays inside ball well with good plate coverage. Good hitters hands. Loose quick bat. Some power now with a lot more to come down the road. Athletic in the field with good actions and hands. Is a lso a prospect on the mound but hasn’t pitched this Spring. Mad a lot of hard contact today with a double over the left fielders head and a line drive single in left center field and a deep fly ball to center field for an out.

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RF/CF Griffin Conine Pine Crest (2015)
Duke commit. 6-foot-1, 185 pound outfielder. Son of Jeff Conine. Today went 3 for 4 with 3 runs, 4 RBIs, 2B, HR.  Hard contact all day. Hard hit line drive to left field, home run to right center field, double down the right field line. Ended the game by gunning down a runner trying to stretch single into double. Very good baseball player who will be a solid college draft out of Duke.

+ SS Zack Kone Pine Crest (2015)
6-foot-3, 200 pound infielder. Tonight was 2 for 4 with 2 runs, RBI, 2 doubles. Plus body and balanced, explosive approach with poise and patience. Crushed his two doubles yesterday. Hard hit line drive to left field and a hard hit line drive to right center field. Looks the part of a productive power bat, and handles short stop well with a plus ML arm.  A bit of a sleeper. Good timing could put him in position to become a 2015 draft.

Dwyer vs Royal Palm Beach 3/13/15

+ RHP Tristan McKenzie Royal Palm Beach HS (2015)
Vandy commit. 6-foot-5, 160 pound right hander who continues to dominate throughout the Spring. Tonight threw 7 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 12 K vs Dwyer HS. Fast ball was mostly 89-91 mph, but topped out at 94 mph. Curve ball was mostly below average but flashed a plus change up. Pounded the strike zone in and out with late life. Is positioning himself nicely for the 2015 draft.

+ C Nick Toney Royal Palm Beach HS (2018)

+ LHP Hunter Whitman Dwyer HS (605, 208, 2015)
6-foot-5, 208 pound left hander who pitched well, but was no match for McKenzie. Fastball was 86-87 mph. Had mechanical arm action but will be a guy to follow at UNF.

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RHP Brady Singer Eustis HS (2015)
Florida commit. 6-foot-5, 180 pound right hander with a tall loose lean athletic projectable body and long loose whippy arms. Takes ball out past hip, lands in line. Loose whippy arm action with a very quick arm. Fast ball had run and sink at 87-94 mph. Pitched at mostly 89-91mph for 7 innings. Slider was a short tight slurve at 80-82 mph and the curve ball was 75-78 mph with a ¾ slurve type rotation. It broke 2 planes mostly. Does a good job staying on top of breaking ball for a side arm slot. Change up was 80-81 with good arm speed and same action as fast ball. Focused, intense competitor. Works quick and is aggressive. One of the better arms in the state. Has a chance to be a good 2015 draft.  7 inn, 4 hits, 10 Ks, 0 BB, 2 runs.

Hit a firm triple the other way and got around the bases well. Looks to be an above avg runner. Sound infield actions and a fringy arm.  Probably not ready for pro ball yet, but possibly a college draft.

+ C Dominic DiCaprio Douglas HS (2015)

6-foot-1, 190 pound outfielder with a loose, physical body and aggressive, projectable swing. 2 for 3 with an RBI. Swatted a couple of firm doubles off of Lopez, who otherwise shut down Brito.  Runs the bases well.  I like the way he plays. Could become a 2017 draft.

Bloomingdale vs Sickles 3/10/15

By Justin Burgess

+ RHP Logan Crouse Bloomingdale HS (2015)
Signed with Florida State. 6-foot-6 225 pounds with a tall, lean, and projectable body with strong legs. Has loose actions and a loose arm with a ¾ arm slot. Arm goes slightly toward first after he breaks and he cuts himself off slightly when he lands. 87-89 mph fastball and he stayed there for the six innings he threw. 79-81 mph slider that mostly breaks across with a pretty late, sharp break. Showed only a few changeups but they were solid as he kept the same arm speed as his fastball and it kept the same spin. Also kept it down in the zone at 78 mph. Not much effort in his delivery and it looked like he could have easily thrown more with the same velocity. Could be a 2015 draft.

+ LHP Connor Centala Sickles HS (2016)
Uncommitted Junior. 6-foot-2 175 pounds with a lean, athletic, and projectable body. Some effort in his delivery but his arm stays fairly loose with a high ¾ arm slot. His arm goes straight back after he breaks and he lands in line. Fastball has arm side run at 82-84 mph. 75-76 mph changeup that runs down and away and he keeps the same arm speed as his fastball. More velocity should come with added strength.

Ole Miss commit. 6-foot, 200 pound catcher with a thick stocky strong durable catchers body. Aggressive approach with good strength and bat speed. Good path with loft in swing. Above avg ML power. Arm has gotten a bit longer. Is 2.0 to 2.1 to 2B. Could be a 2015 draft.

+ SS Ben Rowdon Deland HS (2016)
5-foot-11, 150 pound infielder with a lean loose athletic body. Very good actions with soft hands in the infield. + OF Greg Lewandowski Deland HS (2017)
5-foot-11, 170 pound outfielder with a loose avg sized athletic body. Good actions in the outfield with a close to avg arm and avg type range. Will have to move to a corner down the road. Power will come with added strength.   Good actions in OF with below avg arm. Also pitches so I may not have seen his true arm strength. Some crudeness to his game but very athletic. The athleticism, speed and upside may attract pro scouts next year.

Early on he slowed down a bit to throw it but as game went on he showed good arm speed with good life. Curveball was a ¾ roller at 71-73 mph. Didn’t use it much. Threw a perfect game with 80% fastballs. Worked quick and attacked hitters. Could become a 2015 draft.

Bishop Verot vs Cape Coral 3/4/15

+ CF Trevor Cramer Bishop Verot (2016)
5-foot-9, 160 pound outfielder. Hit the first pitch of the game, a 90 mph fastball from McClanahan, over the left fielder’s head for a hard double and had at least one other hard contact. Plays a confident game and a very competent center fielder, though he doesn’t appear to be a better than avg runner. Gamer type guy.

+ RHP Thaddeus Ward Bishop Verot (2015)
Central Florida signee. 6-foot-4, 160 pound right hander with a lean athletic projectable body. Has deception in his delivery. Lived in the bottom of the strike zone with good life on his fastball at 86-89 mph. Curve ball was 74-78 mph with tight rotation and some depth. Solid avg ML pitch that will improve as velocity improves. Competed very well. Could become a 2015 draft.

+ RHP Devyn White Bishop Verot (2016)
6-foot-4, 180 pound right hnader who came on in relief of Ward in the 5th inning and competed well with a mid-80s fastball and serviceable curve ball.  They scored a few soft runs off him, but he maintained his poise and held on for the save.  Plus body and clean delivery.

+ 3B Blaze Alexander Bishop Verot (2018)
5-foot-11, 145 pound third baseman. Brother of short stop CJ. Good offensive approach and an above avg ML arm with smooth fielding actions and soft hands. He plays the game with advanced rhythm and confidence.  He could be a special player when the strength comes.

+ C Michael Richey Bishop Verot (2016)
5-foot-9, 180 pound catcher with a compact, strong body. Flashed an avg arm with 2 good throws to second base to throw runners out.  Didn’t see enough of the bat to evaluate, but defense alone makes him a college type player.

+ SS CJ Alexander Bishop Verot (2015)
6-foot-5, 185 pound infielder with a tall lean athletic projectable body. Smooth fielding actions with an avg arm. Loose, clean swing for good overall projection.  Struck out first two times up vs McClanahan, but then ripped a single through the right side for the game’s first run.  Not a lot of quick-twitch, but plenty of room to grow into a physical body.  Headed to Ball State and will likely be a college draft.

+ 2B Richie Nizza Bishop Verot (2015)
5-foot-11, 175 pound infielder who is a gamer type guy with a solid 2-way game.  Crushed a McClanahan fastball into left centerfield to drive in a couple of big runs in the 5th inning.(the game had been scoreless through 4). Had good at bats all night. Has good actions and confidence on defense with enough arm.

+ LHP Shane McClanahan Cape Coral HS (2015)
Charleston Southern signee. 6-foot-2, 170 pound lefty with a thin wiry athletic body and a very quick arm. Opened a lot of eyes tonight in front of a lot of scouts in this matchup against Thaddeus Ward. Topping out at 87 mph a couple of weeks ago, he dialed it up a few notches going 89-93 mph with plus life and the makings of a plus slider at 77-79 mph.  The changeup was also a serviceable pitch. Straight, but with arm speed at 84-85 mph. He will get a lot of attention the rest of the way.

+ RHP Anthony Holubecki IMG Academy (2016)
Notre Dame commit. 6-foot-4, 190 pound right hander with a tall lean loose athletic body. Loose arm with an overhand slot. Mechanical and deliberate delivery. Takes ball out in line and lands slightly across his body and locks out front leg. Fastball is 84-89 mph. Has some tilt when he gets out front. Slider is 73-74 mph and he gets around it too much. Changeup is 69-71 mph and slows down to throw it.

+ OF Gabriel Lozada IMG Academy (2016)
6-foot-1, 175 pound outfielder with a live athletic lean body. Athletic actions in outfield with an avg ML arm. Aggressive routes. Plays with energy. No fear. Takes risks. Appears to be an above avg runner. Swing has some length with avg bat speed and a good path. Uses the whole field. Aggressive approach. Had 2 hits today.

Florida St signee. 6-foot-1, 180 pound catcher. Athletic lean projectable body. Good receiver with solid hands. Good mobility. Blocks well. Arm is short. Below avg but quick release. Bat is best tool and is a plus tool with some power down the road. Was 1-3 with a single and 2 deep fly balls left handed. Should be a 2015 draft.

Venice vs Port Charlotte 3/3/15

+ RHP Cole Kragel Venice HS (2015)
Virginia Tech commit. 6-foot-8 215 pound senior RHP with a long, lean, athletic build.  Throws sidearm almost submarine type pitcher with great movement and good command of three pitches.  Throws a fast ball that sits around 86 and was up to 88-89 at times.  Due to arm angle gets great arm side run and can hammer the inner half on righties.  Also throws a sweeping breaking ball that he spots well and throws at any time in the count.  Change up is his third pitch which has some downward movement to it that he can throw for a strike.  Pounded the strike zone throughout the night against Port Charlotte getting ground ball after ground ball giving up only 1 hit through 5 IP and only allowing 3 base runners to reach throughout the night.  Picked up the win.

+ SS Shane Shifflett Venice HS (2017)
UCF commit.  5-foot-11 165 pounds.  Lean, thin build with room to fill out.  Great actions in the infield with a strong arm to make all the throws needed to from SS position.  Good speed and movement on the infield and on the bases.  Has a short, compact, quick swing that allows him to consistently make solid contact, has a stride and separate approach at the plate and is balanced throughout the swing, his bat projects real well.  Was 2-3 against Port Charlotte and a long stand up triple off the base of the fence in left field.  Good pop off of his bat with more to come as he fills out. Could become a 2017 draft.

+ SS/2B Scott Dubrule Venice HS (2016)
Jacksonville commit.  5-foot-11 165 pound junior middle infielder who played second base against Port Charlotte.  Hits from the left side with a compact swing, stays inside the ball nicely and has the ability to drive the ball to all fields.  Made solid contact throughout the night including a line drive into LCF – hits the ball where it’s pitched.  Good speed on the bases and plays well in the infield: athletic, young, and projectable.

+ C Jake Grubbs Venice HS (2017)
6-foot-1 200 pound junior catcher.  Strong build, athletic frame, looks big behind the plate and in the box but moves surprisingly well for his size.  Made some very athletic plates behind the plate.  Blocks the ball well and handled Kragel’s movement on his FB, BB, and change-up well.  Caught runner stealing against Port Charlotte.  Pop time hovered around or just below 2.0 throughout the night, quick behind the plate with strong accurate throws to 2B.  Strong big physical presence at the plate.  Showed good bat speed at the plate and drove the ball well twice including a SAC fly in the first and a single in the third.

+ OF Brent Killam Venice HS (2016)
5-foot-10 160 pound junior outfielder.  Another lean, athletic outfielder with good speed and room to fill out.  Bats and throws left, consistently was able to put the barrel on the ball and squared the ball up to all fields.  Handles off speed pitches well at the plate, singled on a breaking ball in the first, SAC fly to deep center in the second, line drive into the gap in left centerfield in the 4th.  On the night he was 2-3 with 3 RBI.  Does a nice job of staying inside the ball and has good bat speed that allows him to hit the ball with authority.  Good instincts in the outfield with some good speed as well.

+ OF Donovan Petrey Port Charlotte HS (2015)
Florida State commit.  A 5-foot-10 170 pound senior outfielder.  Strong, athletic build and frame.  Bats and throws left.  Was 0-2 against Venice but was on base all three times – forced an error with his speed, reached on a fielder’s choice, and walked.  Short swing with good bat speed and good hand-eye coordination.  Can make things happen with his speed and instincts on the bases.  In the outfield he has good actions and a strong arm with a quick release and over the top arm action that allows him to get good carry on his throws.

Tampa Jesuit vs Spoto 3/3/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ OF Cole Gibbs Tampa Jesuit (2015)
North Carolina signee. 6-foot-3 200 pound outfielder with an athletic, strong, and projectable body. From the outfield his throws have good carry with an average ML arm. Long/over-the-top arm action. At the plate he is slightly open, gets a little separation and has a hand load. His swing is a little stiff but he has good bat speed.

+ RHP JJ Niekro Tampa Jesuit (2016)
6-foot, 185 pound right hander with a lean, athletic projectable frame. He has a simple and under control delivery. Good balance. Compact, over-the-top arm action. Takes ball out in line to second base and lands in line. He fills up the zone and works down well with his fastball with both the 4-seamer and 2-seamer. His 2-seamer has arm side run. The fastball was 81-84 mph. He has a good 76-78 mph changeup with the same arm speed as his fastball and he keeps it down. 71-72 mph curveball that has a 12/6 small break but it keeps hitters off balance. Needs to work on depth. Throws strikes with all three pitches.

Pope John Paul vs American Heritage Del Ray

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RHP Alex Bialakis Pope John Paul (2015)
Citadel commit. 6-foot-1, 200 pound right hander with a strong body who is a competitive strike-thrower. Fastball was 87-89 mph with a fringy downer curve ball. He attacked the zone, and pitched to contact and Delray made a lot of contact. Good stuff. Could become a college draft.

+ RF Christian Falgons Pope John Paul (2015)
5-foot-11, 170 pound outfielder with an athletic lean projectable body.  Smooth, quick left handed swing for good at bats, including a very hard-hit line drive single the opposite way off of Bowling.  Made a great play over his head on a hard-hit liner early in the game.

+ CF Stephen Gogreve Pope John Paul (2015)
6-foot-3, 180 pound outfielder who is physical with a plus body.  Liked him last year when he took quality swings vs Touki Toussant. Plays a hard, physical game.  Not a center fielder down the road, but has the physicality in the left handed bat to move to the corner.  Hard-hit single to the right side tonight. Division 1 type player with a chance to become a chance college draft.

+ OF Josh Parker Pope John Paul (2015)
6-foot, 160 pound outfielder that played DH tonight.  Listed as Pitcher/Outfielder, so perhaps he had recently pitched. Wiry, left handed bat that competed well against Hunter Bowling.  Two very hard-hit balls on the night, the first of which was against Bowling.  I like the way he sees it and swings it. Division 1 type player with a chance to become a college draft.

+ 3B Evan Schaffner Pope John Paul (2015)
South Florida CC commit. 6-foot-3, 175 pound third baseman with a plus body and a good set-up for an on-time, projectable swing.  Also had good swings against Touki Toussant last year, so I had my eye on him. Enough arm, but solid infield actions, athleticism, and a projectable bat with power potential.

+ LHP Hunter Bowling American Heritage Del-Ray (2015)
Florida commit. 6-foot-8, 20 pound lefty with a tall loose lean projectable body. Athletic for his size. Fastball was 85-90 mph and pitched at 87-88 mph with a fringy mostly downer curve ball. Fastball was a little straight, and control was a little scattered.  Lasted 4 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, 1 BB, 3 K’s. Athletic with fair balance through his delivery and long limbs for inconsistencies, but lots of projection…and I’ve seen 94 mph is in there. Top-10 round draft who could climb if he improves throughout the spring.

+ SS Jonathon India American Heritage Del-Ray (2015)
Florida signee. 6-foot, 185 pound infielder. The more I watch him, the more I like him.  The body is leaner, but still has lots of strength and physicality that play into his quick, under-control swing.  He's a polished hitter with very good balance in a repeatable approach.  Has the strength to lift the ball, but stays within himself and uses the whole field with good plate coverage, awareness, and authority.  A very solid combo of hit and power, I foresee a solid everyday ML infielder. He'll have above average strength and won't be mobile enough for short stop, but he is a steady defender with defensive instincts.  Soft, sure hands and a solid avg, accurate arm.  I love his hungry, but consistent and under-control game. He could go out and perform immediately in pro ball as an everyday third baseman. Tonight was 1 for 4 with 2 line drive rockets to the left side with sound, instinctive defense.

Elevate Academy vs Calusa Prep 2/27/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ SS Gerardo Nunez Calusa Prep (2015)
6-foot-1, 165 pound infielder with a loose live body. Just turned 17, this will be one of the younger players in the draft. Smooth short stop actions with an above avg arm. Turns the double play well and is light on his feet.  Light bat has rhythm and projection.

+ 2B Raul Mercado Calusa Prep (2015)
5-foot-10, 175 pound infielder with a body that resembles Luis Alicea. He’s a gamer type player with a compact swing from the left side (have not seen hit right-handed).  Makes the plays with instinctive, aggressive defense.  Has pro potential.

+ LF David Sacarias Calusa Prep (2015)
6-foot-4, 215 pound outfielder who is a big-bodied kid with plus strength via the body mass.  Bat has avg bat speed and gets through OK, but doesn’t have enough feel to square it up consistently. Needs improvement with hand eye.

+ RF Wasner Peguero Calusa Prep (2015)
6-foot-5, 225 pond outfielder with a big strong athletic body. Avg bat speed with fair hand eye. Some crudeness. Does feature a plus arm from right field.  Lots of power in the body.

+ CF Yoeli Lopez Calusa Prep (2015)
6-foot, 175 pound outfielder with a live, springy, strong body and easy plus plus runner with a plus plus arm. Plenty of bat speed, but limited hand eye, as he shows some swing and miss. Turns 18 in July. Tough to pass on the tools. Should become a 2015 draft.

+ RHP Rafael Ramirez Calusa Prep (2015)
6-foot-5, 220 pound right hander with an extra large body and lots of power.  Fastball was 91-94 mph with  plus angle and plenty of late hop. Curve ball was 75-76 mph and is sharp and late with good depth. Above avg ML pitch.  Mechanics aren’t bad, but he has more the look of a power reliever, similar to Antonio Alfonseca. Turns 20 in December. Could become a good 2015 draft.

+ C Fabian Pena Calusa Prep (2015)
Manhattan College commit. 5-foot-11, 205 pound catcher with a good catcher’s body and soft, quick hands.  Showed a close to ML avg arm last night.  Handles a live-armed staff quite well.  Enough bat for him to become a college draft.

+ 3B Bernabe Camargo Calusa Prep (2015)
6-foot-2, 175 pound third baseman. Plus body with solid infield actions, and a fringy arm.  Some ability and projection in the bat. Would benefit from further development in college where he could become a quality player.

+ RHP Ariel Diaz Elevate Academy (2015)
6-foot-1, 185 pound right hander whose fastball is 87-89 mph. Is a slinger from a ¾ angle with riding life.  Lots of uphill that he doesn’t always command, but the fastball gets on the hitter quick.  Fringy ¾ slider is frequently down in the zone and effective.

+ 3B Luis Diaz Santa Elevate Academy (2015)
Palm Beach St commit. 5-foot-11, 175 pound third baseman. Very good infield actions with soft hands and an avg ML, playable arm.  Made a spectacular diving backhand play with a solid peg to first base. Has rhythm with a quality swing, and plate coverage which makes him a complete, if not projectable, player.

+ C Ural Forbes Elevate Academy (2015)
Palm Beach St commit. 6-foot, 215 pound catcher with a Thick strong body from the Bahamas. He does OK behind the plate and has a below avg arm with good accuracy.  Has strength and quickness in the bat with fair hand eye. Can help a college team somewhere.

+ SS Antonio Ralat Elevate Academy (2015)
6-foot-3, 195 pound infielder from Puerto Rico. Has smooth actions and an avg ML arm for quality infield defense, though will have to move off of short stop.  Enough bat and leverage for power to play at the college level. Plays with ease and confidence.

Key West vs Douglas 2/27/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ RHP/INF Gregory Veliz Key West HS (2016)
Miami commit. 6-foot-2, 200 pound two-way guy with a strong, athletic body. He shows good energy and live actions. In the field he is smooth with soft hands. He has good speed (looked like a 6.7-6.8) but his feet at short are a little heavy. He has a plus ML arm across the diamond with a short/high ¾ arm action. Can make all of the routine plays at short stop with limited range. At the plate he has an open stance, his hands are high, and he gets a good hand load that allows for power and his bat to get into a good slot. Ball jumps off his bat and hits with authority to all fields. He had two triples against Stoneman Douglas that were roped both to left and right field.

+ LHP/1B/OF Brandon Presley Key West HS (2015)
Florida South Western State College commit. 6-foot-6 210 pounder with a tall, lean, athletic, and projectable body. A lot of room to fill out. In the field he has soft hands, good actions, and quick/light feet with enough arm. At the plate he gets good separation with a nice hands load. Loose, quick bat. He gets good leverage with his long arms and good weight transfer. Ball jumps off his bat. On the mound he has a high 3/4, fairly loose arm action. Easy working arm with an 81-83 mph fastball, 66-67 mph curveball, and 72 mph changeup. He throws all three for strikes. Against Stoneman Douglas he was 1-4 with some loud outs and had 2 IP with no runs and 4 K's.

+ OFMIF/P Jay Feathers Key West HS (2015)
Pratt Community College commit. 5-foot-10 180 pound outfielder with a lean, athletic body. Tracks down balls well in centerfield. Gets good jumps. Has an above average arm from center with an over-the-top motion that produces on line/accurate throws. At the plate he has a short swing with quick hands and line drive type swing with gap power..

+ LHP Jesus Luzardo Stoneman Douglas HS (2016)
Miami commit. 6 feet,190 pounds lefty with a strong, athletic, and well put together body. Fluid delivery with a high leg raise. Stays balanced and over his back side well. He lands in line and takes ball out in line with a high ¾ arm slot that is compact. He hides the ball well. His fastball has arm side run that he'll work from 83-86 mph early in the count and brings it up to 87-90 mph when he wants to. He has a ¾ curve that breaks two planes and has good depth at 68-71 mph. Very good change up at 74-76 mph with the same arm speed as his fastball and has late life. Keeps hitters off balance by throwing his changeup in all counts. Throws all three pitches for strikes.

+ C Dominic DiCaprio Stoneman Douglas (2015)
Rice commit. 6 feet 205 pound catcher with a thick, blocky, and strong build. Soft receiver with a quick transfer and average arm from behind the plate. Likes to throw. Got caught in between a couple times with balls in the dirt. At the plate he has a slightly closed stance, good separation. Low hands that gets his bat into a good slot. Occasionally pulls off ball. Ball jumps off his bat. Shows strength and quickness in bat.

+ OF Pemron Burrows Stoneman Douglas (2015)
Palm Beach State commit. Athletic, lean body with good strength for his size and strong legs. Runs very well. Looks like an above avg ML runner. Above average arm from the outfield. Over-the-top action and gets on top of the ball well. Accurate throws. Narrow stance but he gains ground in his stride. He has a small separation for his load. Short/quick line drive type swing.

+ INF Colton Welker Stoneman Douglas (2016)
Miami commit. 6-foot-2, 190 pounds infielder with a good sized frame and athletic body  with a strong lower half. He has quick/ light feet in the field and is very smooth. Soft hands with a quick transfer. Above average arm from short with some effort but he has a short arm action with accurate throws. At the plate he is slightly open with high hands. He doesn't have much of a load so his hands stay in the same place. Somewhat of a choppy swing. Average bat speed. Defense appeared to be ahead of the bat right now.

+ LHP Rigsby Mosley Bishop Moore HS (2016)
6-foot-2, 180 pound lefty with a tall loose lean projectable body. Quick arm with some effort. High ¾ slot with some tilt on his fastball when he gets over his front side at 85-88 mph. Fastball has some arm side life. Hides ball in back. Lands in line. Occasionally pulls off line. Inconsistent release point causes inconsistent command. Curve ball has ¾ rotation at 72-74 mph. Slider is a short tight downer at 75-77 mph. Change up was 70-74 mph and flashes avg. Occasionally drops slot to throw it. Has good fade and sink. Could become an above avg pitch. Has the body, stuff and upside. Needs to develop consistency in delivery. Also a very good hitter.

+ OF/3B Joe Skinner Bishop Moore HS (2016)
Central Florida commit. 6-foot-2, 190 pound outfielder/third baseman. Strong muscular athletic live body. Runs very well for a big guy. 4.2-4.3 to first base. Loose athletic actions in the outfield with an avg ML arm. Did not see play third base. Plays with energy and intensity. Appears to enjoy the game. Loose quick bat with good hand eye. Stays inside ball and uses whole field. Gap to gap type approach. Doubles type power with more to come with added strength. Had 2 hits tonight off of good pitching and the game winning RBI.

+ RHP Mike Giordano Bishop Moore HS (2016)
Uncommitted Junior. 6-foot-2, 185 pound right hander with a tall athletic strong durable pitchers body. Loose quick arm with a high ¾ slot. Lands across body. Ball jumps out of his hand with deception. Fast ball has good tilt when he stays over the rubber and gets extension out front at 84-85 mph. Will definitely throw harder. Curve ball has ¾ rotation with more depth when he gets out front at 72-73 mph. Change up was 74-76 mph with good arm speed. Didn’t use it much. Will develop with reps. Very competitive kid. Showed great poise in a tight situation with the game on the line. A lot of upside. Hasn’t pitched much. Great student.

+ RHP Tyler Baum West Orange HS (2016)
North Carolina commit. 6-foot, 160 pound right hander who was his usual self. Fastball was 87-90 mph with plus life. Curve ball was 72-74 mph and at times was a plus pitch. Pitched well enough to win but came up short. Is a bit inconsistent out front and ball occasionally gets away from him. Reached back at times when he needed to and showed some competitiveness. One of the more talented arms in his class.

+ SS Pablo Cabrera Bishop Moore HS (2015)
High Point commit. 6-foot-1, 185 pound infielder with a strong athletic body and very good infield actions with soft hands and an avg ML arm. Takes good angles to balls. Comes and get balls well. Has quickness in his bat with a good plane. Came up big tonight with 2 big doubles. Bat will continue to improve with added strength. Looks like a below avg runner. Will be a good college short stop.

+ 3B Garrett Milchin West Orange HS (2015)
Florida commit. 6-foot-4, 175 pound third baseman with good actions and an avg arm. Advanced approach with a loose quick bat. Will continue to improve with added strength. Had very good at bats, staying inside a pretty good left handed arm. Drove a ball in the left center gap for a double and lined out hard to the short stop.

+ SS Kyle Phillips West Orange HS (2015)
Uncommitted Senior. 5-foot-11, 155 pound infielder with a lean live athletic body on a smaller frame. Good actions with decent hands and a fringy arm. Looks more suited for second base at the college level. Can also play center field. Is a plus runner. 4.1 to 1B. Loose quick bat with a bit of an Ichiro type approach. Sprays ball all over the field. Will improve with added strength. Contact type hitter. Can bunt and steal bases. Uses speed to disrupt opponent. Grinder type make up. Plays with energy.

Columbus vs Coral Gables 2/25/15

+ SS Danny Casals Columbus HS (2015)
Maine commit. 6-foot, 185 pound infielder with a good baseball body, sound defensive actions and solid avg ML arm. Was a litte sloppy with the accuracy today.  Swung it well for two hard hit balls off of Cabezas, who was up to 93 mph.  He has strength in a clean, aggressive swing, and he has the quickness and coordination to be on time.

+ C Nick Rocha Columbus HS (600, 165, 2015)
6-foot, 165 pound catcher who is a sound receiver with loose agility and an avg ML arm. Two nice throws yesterday and several nice blocks.  Need to see more of the bat, but glove is good enough for a Division 1 program.

+ RHP Christopher Copiel Columbus HS (2015)
Florida International commit. 6-foot-2, 200 pound right hander. Pounded the zone with an 87-88 mph fastball and a curveball that was a little soft but threw consistently for low strikes.  Strike machine who really competed in a big-game atmosphere – 7 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K.  Headed to FIU and should become a draft.

+ SS Jackie Urbaez Columbus HS (509, 165, 2015)
5-foot-9, 165 pound infielder who is a really good high school player with instincts and feel for the game with the bat and the glove.  Smooth actions in the infield with an avg ML arm, and soft hands.  Clean, quick, whippy swing. Resembles a smaller Lenny Randle. Division 1 college player.

+ OF Hernand Sardina Columbus HS (2016)
6-foot-2, 205 pound outfielder with a physical body and a good swing, but I need to see more. Interesting looking guy but didn’t see enough to report on. Just a guy to keep on the radar.

+ CF Raymond Gonzalez Coral Gables HS (2015)
Palm Beach St commit. 5-foot-9, 150 pound outfielder who is small, but wiry and quick-twitch.  Great approach with the bat. Sees it, and takes a healthy, on-time rip.  4.36 on a turn on a double. Division 1 type player.

+ C Eli Marrero Coral Gables HS (2015)
Mississippi St commit. 5-foot-9, 185 pound catcher who was 0 for 3 tonight with no hard contact. Was a little jumpy and restricted today at the plate.  Caught well, showed an avg ML arm. Picked a runner off first base. My opinion still hasn’t changed with this guy. He plays above his tools and should be a 2015 draft.

+ LF Rolando Rodriguez Coral Gables HS (2015)
6-foot-2, 200 pound outfielder with a physical bat and a loose swing with good extension. Took good aggressive swings and ended the game with hard line drive caught by the center fielder.  Also catches.  Kind of a slow-twitch look, but he gets the bat through the zone with some quickness.

+ SS Coco Montes Coral Gables HS (2015)
South Florida commit. 6-foot-2, 185 pound infielder. He has a good swing and showed it yesterday with a hard line drive to right field that was caught.  Poised with rhythm and increasing quickness at the plate. Smooth and dependable at short stop. Should become a draft out of college.

+ RHP Andrew Cabezas  Coral Gables HS (2015)
Miami commit. 5-foot-9, 185 pound right hander who is under sized for that position. Hammered the zone with plus aggressiveness all day.  Fastball was 89-93 mph with live run and sink. Slider was 81-83 mph and consistently for a strike. Threw a couple of above avg ML quality sliders with a short tight break with depth. Showed solid feel for sinking changeup at 81-83 mph.  Great competitor with now stuff, but lack of size kills him as a potential pro prospect out of high school.

Belen Jesuit vs Cardinal Gibbons 2/24/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RHP Nathan Pawelczyk Cardinal Gibbons (2015)
Winthrop commit. 5-foot-11, 180 pound right hander that is undersized for is position, but relatively physical and a good competitor. Fastball was 87-89 straight with some ride. Slider was short and tight at 78-79 mph and threw consistently for strikes, with some shape and depth. I have seen up to 92 mph. He will be a good arm at Winthrop.

+ CF Christian Del Castillo Belen Jesuit (2016)
5-foot-9, 150 pound outfielder with a live athletic coordinated body and an advanced left handed swing. Quick, whippy, compact swing that stays in the zone.  Solid at bats vs Pawelczyk (hard single up the middle off of a slider, K). Looks to be at least an above avg runner. Potential Division 1 guy.

 + C Marcos Perez Belen Jesuit (2015)
5-foot-10, 180 pound catcher with a strong compact body for that position.  Almost avg arm that is accurate. Throws guys out. Solid receiver with playable hands. Need to see more.

Riverview vs Bloomingdale 2/24/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ LHP Garrett Bye Riverview HS (2015)
South Florida signee. 6-foot, 160 pound lefty with a lean and projectable body that has a lot of room to fill out. Athletic guy with some quickness in his body. Has some effort in his windup put has a quick, fairly loose arm with a high ¾ release. Takes ball out in line to second base and lands in line. Will sometimes throw across his body and miss inside, especially later in the game. Fastball was 85-88 mph, touched 89. Curveball has good depth with a ¾ break and is fairly sharp at 67-72 mph. He only showed a few changeups but they were very good and for strikes with the same arm speed as his fastball and had good deception at 71 mph. 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 K's against Bloomingdale.

+ OF/P Conrado Skepple Bloomingdale HS (2015)
5-foot-10, 170 pound right hander who is a good athlete with a lean body that is quick and has life. Has very good speed (6.5-6.6). He has an average ML arm from the outfield with a little more to come. Could get more carry with less tail in his throws. Somewhat stiff arm but it is quick. At the plate he has a slightly open stance and small load/separation. Swing is flat through the zone and has some length. Needs to shorten up and loosen up to make more consistent contact and take advantage of his speed. 88-89 mph fastball and 70-71 curveball off the mound.

+ 1B/3B Anthony Gonnella Riverview HS (2016)
6-foot-4, 210 pound left handed hitting first baseman with a tall, lean, and strong frame with room to fill out. Swings lefty, throws righty. Soft hands and solid arm from first base. Slightly open at the plate with good rhythm, separation, and a small leg kick. Relaxed and quiet. Easy, short swing with loft. Good bat speed and the ball jumps off his bat. Two home runs tonight against Bloomingdale.

+ INF Freddy Tarnuk Riverview (2017)
6-foot-2, 170 pound infielder with a tall, very lean, athletic, and projectable body. Loose easy actions everywhere on the field. Smooth in the field with soft hands and a loose, over-the-top arm. Avg ML arm. Long stride, loose runner. At the plate he has good separation and a nice swing plane. Average bat speed and gap power that will both increase with strength. Has a short swing and stays inside the ball well. Hits the inside pitch well, doesn't seem to get beat. 1-4 with a double against Bloomingdale with some loud outs.

American VS Southridge 2/23/15

+ RHP Michael Rodriguez American HS (2015)
Florida International commit. 6-foot-1, 185 pound right hander with a lean, athletic body and a mostly sound delivery with some effort.  Started game in the mid-80s, but climbed to 88-89 mph with his last pitch of the game. In the 4th inning he touched 92 mph. Showed feel for a tumbling changeup at 82-83 mph. Limited feel for a soft curve ball.  Good high school pitcher with pro potential.

+ SS Roman Gonzalez American HS (2015)
Miami commit. 6-foot-2, 205 pound infielder who is a ballplayer that has flashed bat ability over the years. Will have to move to third base at the next level and will really have to hit to profile at that position unless he converts to catcher. Had a tough night with the bat with a weak pop-up and strikeout.  Makes the plays in the field and has an above avg arm. Lacks running speed.

+ RHP Danger Guevara American HS (2015)
5-foot-9, 160 pound right hander who is undersized for that position but has a live arm.  Fastball was 86-88 mph and straight but rides up in the zone. Curveball was 72-73 mph with solid rotation and fringy downer shape. Good competitor.

+ C Ariel Lauries American HS (2015)
5-foot-11, 200 pound catcher a medium sized, strong body with good flexibility, soft hands, and an avg arm.  Plays with a lot of intensity, and knows what he’s doing behind the plate.  I really like the way he catches. Sets up well, sticks pitches, plays to win back there.  Good strength in the bat with a line drive type stroke.  Had a hard line drive single to right center field and a hard-hit fly to centerfield last night. Potential D-1 guy.

+ LF Diandre Amion Southridge HS (2015)
5-foot-10, 180 pound outfielder with an athletic body. Left handed hitting outfielder with a compact swing, solid approach, and strength in the bat.  Not much projection, but he has good outfield instincts, and he’s an avg ML runner.  Could help a college program somewhere.

+ CF Josten Heron Southridge HS (2015)
Bethune Cookman signee. 6-foot-2, 200 pound outfielder with a good body and smooth outfield actions with avg ML speed. Has a minor loop in his bat path that arrives under the ball. Slightly uphill with some quickness and strength. Definitely looks the part and is a guy to follow.

+ RF Arlain Sesin Southridge HS (2015)
5-foot-10, 175 pound outfielder with an athletic body. Is a gamer with good outfield instincts and strength in bat with a good swing. (much like Amion, but from the right side).  Made a really nice play cutting off hard-hit ball in right center field gap.  Could help a college program somewhere.

+ RHP Victor Feliz Southridge HS (2016)
6-foot-1, 185 pound right hander. Looks a little taller than the listed 6 foot. Good pitcher’s body with a pretty clean delivery. Fastball was 82-85 mph with a little more velocity to come. Did not see any secondary stuff. Good feel for pitching. Did a nice job keeping the game close for his 2 innings of relief. A guy to keep an eye on.

Westminster Christian VS Killian 2/21/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ LHP Ryan Terry Westminster Christian (2015)
Central Florida commit. 5-foot-11, 175 pound lefty that dominated a very good Killian HS team for 6.1 innings before giving way to Barry commit, Jagr Enriquez, a 5-foot-11, 175 pound right handed side-armer who pounded the zone w/life from a tough angle.

+ 3B Julian Infante Westminster Christian (2015)
Vanderbilt commit. 6-foot-3, 205 pound third baseman with a blocky strong athletic body. Power bat with decent actions at third base. Huge home run half way up the left field light tower for an early 1-0 lead.

+ CF Alvaro Valdez Westminster Christian (2016)
Uncommitted junior. 6-foot-1, 205 pound outfielder. Reported on previously but had two punch outs and a hard fly to left field. He has a good swing. Will be a Division 1 bat.

+ SS Anthony Villar Westminster Christian (2018)
5-foot-9, 165 pound infielder. Previously reported on. 3 strikeouts tonight, but still a guy to follow as he is a very advanced defender for his age.

+ C Jakob Zarello Westminster Christian (2016)
6-foot-2, 205 pound catcher with a physical, body that fits well behind the plate.  Solid hands with an avg arm, and strength in the bat with a solid approach. Had a hard fly out to center field, hard-hit ground ball to first base, and was hit by a pitch.

+ SS Freddie Zamora Killian HS (2017)
Miami commit. 6-foot, 165 pound short stop that is athletic with smooth hands and actions with an avg arm. Hits leadoff and handles it well. Sprays the ball with what will become increasing authority. Good hand eye. Ran a 4.54 to first base. Could become a 2017 draft.

+ 3B Joey Gonzalez Killian HS (2015)
Stetson commit. 5-foot10, 165 pounder that could be a two guy in college. Live, athletic player with some whip in his bat. Soft hands and an above avg arm play well. I’ve also seen him up to 91 mph off the mound.

+ LHP Ryan Granda Killian HS (2015)
5-foot-10, 150 pound lefty with a lean smaller frame. Pitched 3 strong innings in relief mixing an 84-86 mph live fastball and solid ¾-downer curveball for strikes.  Aggressive and deceptive.

+ CF Ryan Guzman Killian HS (2015)
6-foot-1, 150 pound outfielder. Hits 9th in the order, but on a very good team.  Goes and gets it effortlessly in center field and flies down the line.  Need to see more of the bat, but regardless, I would have interest at the college level on his defensive tools alone.

+ 2B Eddy Demurias Killian HS (2015)
Florida commit. 6-foot-1, 150 pound infielder who is a baseball player with a lean, wiry, athletic body. Didn’t do much tonight (nobody did against Terry), but I think he has some “performer” in him.  Will be a good Division 1 player.

+ C Herbert Iser Killian HS (2016)
Miami commit. 6-foot-3, 205 pound catcher who is a premium position player with left handed power and a plus ML arm, which already makes him a pro prospect. He needs to continue to work on his defense and release for consistency. Power plays more the more field he uses. Occasionally gets pull happy and works around the ball but his tools and profile will likely make him a good 2016 draft.

+ 1B/RHP Keith Stevens Killian HS (2015)
6-foot-1, 210 pound first base pitcher. Is a tough gamer type guy with physicality, balance, and ability in the bat. Also pitched well in relief with aggressive tailing mid-80s fastball and soft curve ball that he dropped in for a strike. Could be a  2-way candidate at a college somewhere.

+ RHP Frank Follaco Killian HS (2015)
6-foot-5, 215 pound right hander. Started the game and pitched well (4+ IP) only hiccup was the long home run he gave up to Infante.  Fastball was 84-87 mph that was straight with some riding life.  Struggled to spin it, but flashes a decent curve ball that could develop enough for him to pitch effectively at a college somewhere.

+ 1B Eddy Arteaga Killian HS (2017)
6-foot-1, 205 pound first baseman that played DH and 1B, but is listed as a catcher as well ( I have heard he’s pretty good back there). Had a hard double off of Terry and high fly ball to right field and showed power in the bat.  His bat is on time and physical. Good Division 1 bat.

Riverview vs Spoto 2/21/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ OF Chris Chatfield Spoto HS (2015)
South Florida commit. 6-foot-4 200 pound outfielder with a tall, lean, loose athletic, and projectable body with good wiry strength. Similar to Cameron Maybin. At the plate he is slightly open with good separation/hands load with good rhythm. He has a nice swing plane with some loft and uses his lower half well. Quick/loose bat and the ball jumps off his bat with above avg ML power. He hit line drives out in BP all over the field with wood. Will occasionally get around inside pitches but he still barrels them up for line drives. He is patient and has a good eye at the plate with a discipline approach He has good speed (6.7-60) with long, loose strides. He has a high ¾ long release and stays on top of the ball with on line/accurate throws with carry. Average ML arm from the outfield. On the bases he is quick, gets good jumps, and is aggressive. Against Riverview there were about 10 ML scouts to watch his BP and game and he went 1-1 with two walks. The tools, body, high ceiling along with the electric BP’s, are making him very attractive in the 2015 draft.

+ LHP David Baxter Spoto HS (2015)
Bethune-Cookman commit.  6-feet, 207 pound lefty with a blocky yet loose and athletic body. He has a high leg kick and takes ball out to third base and lands in line with a long stride. Has a ¾ release with a loose arm action. Fastball was 84-87 mph. He showed a sharp slider with a good, late break at 74-76 mph. 1 IP, 1 K against Riverview.

+ RHP/INF Jordan Leasure Riverview HS (2016)
6-foot-2, 170 pound right hander with a lean, loose, and projectable body. He has a high ¾ arm slot. Takes ball out to first base and lands in line. Loose arm action with an 81-84 mph fastball that has arm side run. 68 mph slurve that breaks the length of the plate and he throws for strikes. Breaks a little early but with added velocity it will be sharper. Attacks the zone. Against Spoto he had 4 IP, 0 runs, and 2 hits allowed.

+ OF Justin Farmer Riverview HS (2017)
Florida commit. Has an athletic, lean, and projectable body with visible strength. At the plate he has a wide base, is slightly open, and gets a small separation for his load. He has a nice swing plane and his bat stays through the zone. Good balance. He stays on pitches well, has good hand-eye coordination, and has good plate coverage. Good bat speed. Loose runner and light on his feet. Good jumps and good routes in the outfield. He has a loose, over-the-top arm action and stays on top of the ball well. On line/accurate throws with an above average ML arm. Against Spoto he was 3-4 with a 2-run HR.

Wesley Chapel vs Nature Coast Tech 2/20/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ RHP Brandon McLeod Wesley Chapel (2015)
Uncommitted Senior. 6-foot-5 210 pound right hander with a tall, lean, strong, and projectable body. He has a low ¾ to high sidearm release with a short, quick arm action. He throws across his body and falls off towards third base. Tough angle against right handed hitters. He takes ball out in line to second base and goes from a long to short arm arc in back. Fastball was 85-88 mph and touched 89 mph. His curve ball was 65-68 mph that was a big breaking slurve that was a little soft. Did not show a changeup. Against Nature Coast Tech he had 6 IP, 9 K's, and 4 ER.

+ INF Corey Mumaw Wesley Chapel (2015)
Uncommitted Senior. 5-foot-11 170 pound infielder with a lean, athletic frame. At the plate he is upright in his stance, has a small separation/load, and a short, quick bat. He has a flat swing plane that consistently barrels up balls and he hits line drives and hard groundballs all over the field. At shortstop he has quick/light feet, soft hands, and a smooth transfer and release. He is a gamer that makes athletic plays and he plays aggressive. Has a good high ¾ arm slot and an average arm from short. Against Nature Coast Tech he was 3-5 with an RBI double.

+ LHP J.P. Gates Nature Coast Tech (2018)
Left Hander with a lean, athletic, and projectable body. He has a loose and quick arm with a high ¾ release. Fastball was 82-85 mph. He has a good 75-77 mph changeup with the same arm speed as his fastball that has some arm side run and late sink. He has an average curveball that was better the harder he threw it. At 69-71 mph it was a soft roller that did not break much. When it was 72-74 mph it had a sharp break that broke two planes. Consistency and fine-tuning of his curveball will give him three advanced pitches for his age. More velocity will come with added strength and physical maturity. Ball comes out in line. 3 IP, 5 K's, 5 ER against Wesley Chapel.

West Orange VS Dr Phillips 2/20/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RHP Tyler Baum West Orange HS (2016)
North Carolina commit. 6-foot, 165 pound right hander with a loose lean projectable body on a smaller frame. Loose easy working arm at a ¾ slot. Fastball has good arm side life with some sink down in zone, and a tough angle against right handed hitters at 86-88 mph. Delivery is fluid but backside doesn’t get through. Takes ball out past hip and lands across body. A bit of  a crossfire delivery. Should be more velocity in there. Curve ball had good rotation with a ¾ break at 72-73 mph. Avg ML pitch. Changeup was kind of a 2 seam fast ball at 81-84 mph. Slowed down a bit to throw it but it had good fade to it.

+ RHP Kyle Marman Dr Phillips HS (2015)
Florida Atlantic commit. 6-foot-3, 190 pound right hander with a tall lean loose projectable body with some strength in hips and thighs. Loose quick arm with an over hand slot. Good down tilt on fastball at 86-91 mph. Hides ball in back and lands slightly across his body with a short arm arc. Short stride. Gets over front side. Curve ball is a big loopy downer at 69-71 mph with good rotation. Flashed avg. Changeup is 80-81 mph and didn’t use it much. Cruised through first time through the order and velocity dropped as well as the command. Was really good early.

+ LHP Andrew Vaccacio Dr Phillips HS (2015)
Uncommitted senior. 5-foot-10, 170 pound lefty with a loose lean athletic projectable body on a smaller frame. Some effort in delivery with fluid arm action. Drop and drive type delivery. Aggressive approach. Attacks hitters with an 82-83 mph fastball with tail action. Curve ball was a big loopy ¾ breaker with good rotation at 66-68 mph. Changeup was 73-74 mph and dropped his slot to throw it. Can help a college team somewhere next year.

+ RHP Ryan Welsh West Orange HS (2015)
Florida Southern commit. 6-foot-4, 180 pound right hander with a tall loose lean projectable body. Loose working arm at a high 3/4 slot. Short arm arc in back with. Only threw 2 hitters. Is a very good pitcher that had a tough night.

+ LHP Doug Nikhazy West Orange HS (2018)
Ole Miss commit. 5-foot-10, 175 pound lefty with a young loose lean projectable body. Loose easy working arm with a fluid delivery. High ¾ slot with some tilt. Fastball was 83-84 mph with tail action. Curve ball was at time a tight downer with depth and at other times was a ¾ breaker with good rotation and depth. Solid avg ML pitch right now. Showed very good poise in a big game and in big situations. Very advanced for such a young kid. Stuff will inly continue to improve with added size and strength.

+ RHP Christopher Moore Dr Phillips HS (2015)
Florida Atlantic commit. 6-foot-5, 185 pound right hander with a tall loose lean projectable body. Side arm delivery with a loose whippy arm action. Fast ball has sink and run at 82-83 mph. Very effective against right handed hitters. Curve ball is a frisbee type breaker with good rotation at 71-72 mph. Very effective when he doesn’t get under it.

+ OF Yasin Chentouf Dr Phillips HS (2015)
Pitt commit. 5-foot-10, 190 pound outfielder with a stocky strong athletic body. Above avg runner with an above avg ML arm. Has quickness and strength in bat with a good path. Occasional swing and miss guy. Needs to use more field. Has an aggressive approach but occasionally gets too aggressive and gets in yank mode. Shows some power when he turns on it. Could become a 2015 draft.

+ SS Tanner May Dr Phillips HS (2016)
Uncommited junior. 6-foot, 170 pound infielder with a loose lean athletic body and good actions in the infield with some softness in hands and enough arm for the position. Plays with energy and is aggressive on routes to ball. Has some quickness in bat but lacks strength. Good hand eye. Had 2 hits tonight off of a good arm. Bat will improve with added strength.

+ OF Chase Cheek Dr Phillips HS (2016)
Duke commit. 6-foot-1, 170 pound outfielder with a lean loose live athletic projectable body. Athletic actions in the outfield with good arm strength. Good reads and routes. Tracks ball well. Above avg ML runner. 4.15 to 1B. Has a loose quick bat with very good hand eye. Stays inside ball and uses whole field. Can drive ball down and in. Good hitters hands. Bat will continue to get better with added strength. Will have gap type power.

+ C Matt Sullivan Dr Phillips HS (2015)
West Florida commit. 5-foot-10, 185 pound catcher with a thick blocky strong body. High energy kid with a grinder type approach to the game. Solid catch and throw guy with arm strength. Not real quick release but keeps his feet under him and makes strong accurate throws. Blocks everything and appears to run the show. Good make up for that position. Showed some bat speed with some strength. Had 1 hit with an RBI tonight.

+ 3B Garrett Milchin West Orange HS (2016)
Florida commit. Tall lean athletic projectable body with good actions and soft hands in the infield with a solid avg arm. Loose Left handed bat with quickness and good hand eye. + RHP Pablo Toranzo Tampa Catholic (2015)
6-foot-5 200 pound right hander with a strong, physical body but looks like he could be 210-215. He only faced two batters against Berkeley but was 85-86 mph with his fastball but could get more with better extension. He has a short arm with a low elbow at release. There’s more velocity in the arm. He has visible strength, strong legs, and will add more weight.

+ RHP Tyler Fagler Berkeley Prep (2016)
6-foot-4 200 pound right hander with a tall, lean, projectable, and loose body. Young face and will easily add weight and strength. Takes ball out in line, and lands in line, and he has an over-the-top arm action that is loose and easy. His fastball has a good downward angle and he spots it up at 81-83 mph. He has a good curveball that got better as the game went on. It has a ¾ break, sharp and has good depth. He keeps it down in the zone and is able to command it. Throws it in all counts at 71-73 mph. Velocity should increase with maturity and strength. 6 IP, 7 K's, and 0 ER against Tampa Catholic.

+ LHP Roland Chacon Jr. Tampa Catholic (2016)
5-foot-10 170 pound left hander with an athletic, strong, and somewhat stiff body. Takes ball out and up to his ear. Lands in line. He has a low ¾ arm slot and throws across his body, this produces arm side run on his 80-82 mph fastball. He has an average slider that breaks pretty late when he keeps it down. Occasionally works under it and gets around it. Has a slurvey type break at 74-75 mph. He competes well on the mound, 5 2/3 IP, 3 K's, 1 ER against Berkeley Prep.

+ C Jordan Santos Tampa Catholic (2016)
South Florida commit. 5-foot-11, 180 pound catcher with a lean, athletic, and strong body. At the plate he has good separation but is a little choppy with his swing plane. He needs to loosen up his hands a little to increase his bat speed. Bat speed will also increase with strength. Good speed for a catcher. Behind the plate he is a soft receiver, frames well, and shows good energy. He blocks and deadens balls well. Average arm that is over-the-top and a little stiff but produces on-line throws. He has a quick transfer and will be even quicker with improved footwork.

+ INF Spencer Myers Berkeley Prep (2017)
5-foot-10 150 pound infielder with a lean, athletic body that has plenty of room to fill out and add muscle. He has advanced actions at shortstop with quick, light feet and he's very smooth. He has soft hands and takes very aggressive routes. Wants the ball hit his way. He has a quick release and a short, loose arm action that is ideal for a middle infielder. Very good instincts for his age. At the plate he has a small leg kick, good separation, rhythm, nice bat plane, and a quick bat. His power will increase with strength and maturity. Switch hitter but I only saw him from the left side. He also showed good game speed with an infield single and he's aggressive on the base paths.

+ LHP/OF/1B Julian Bosnic Berkeley Prep (2018)
6-foot-2 190 pound left hander with an athletic, loose, and projectable body that has good size for his age. He should grow and add more weight with maturity. He has a high ¾ arm slot that is fairly loose. Lands in line and takes ball out in line. His fastball has slight arm side run at 79-82 mph. Showed one changeup at 73 mph that was deceiving with the same arm speed and has same action as his fastball. He showed one plus curveball that had good depth and had a 12/6 drop with good, late break. He is advanced for his age with good feel for pitching.

Park Vista VS Jupiter 2/19/15

+ LHP Mack Lemieux Jupiter HS (2015)
Florida Atlantic commit. 6-foot-3, 200 pound lefty with a lean, but strong and projectable body with a mostly sound delivery. Arm action is quick, but short.  Pitches to contact with an 87-88 mph fastball that touches 90 mph and gets a lot of ground balls. First inning of the year was only 6 pitches, then followed up with 2 more quick frames (3 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 SO on 2/3).  Natural feel for a usable, frequently plus change up that shows cut, sink, and deception. Tight, mostly-downer curveball is frequently avg and flashes late bite.  The short arm action does detract, but the stuff comes out, and the fastball velocity is on the rise (84-87 in he fall).  Mack is an athletic, aggressive, no-frills, strike-thrower with pitches and projection. Tonight. 5 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 7 K’s.

+ RHP Austin Smith Park Vista HS (2015)
Florida Atlantic commit. 6-foot-4, 225 pound right hander. Fastball was 89-92 with avg life.  Curveball had ¾ rotation at 74-75 mph. Flashes some sweep at 77 mph. Both rotate well, and the pitch projects to a little better than avg.  Competed well with aggressive strikes (vs Lemieux in front of a packed house of scouts).  Came out after 3 innings pitched, as umpire was struck with a bat, and game was delayed for over 30 minutes.

+ SS Matthew Mika Park Vista HS (2015)
Central Florida commit. 5-foot-9, 180 pound short stop. A rough night for the talented short stop. (2 errors; K and popup to 3B), but he can play the game.  Arm is avg ML, and hands and release are plus.  Also a great swing.  He rifled a line drive that was snagged for a double play. Above avg runner whose instincts in all phases of the game are plus.

+ 1B Joe Genord Park Vista HS (2015)
South Florida commit. 6-foot-2, 200 pound physical, tough hitter with anger in the bat.  Looks to hurt the ball, but hitting mechanics are pretty sound.  I think there’s power in there that will play down the road.  Also a quality glove at first base with avg hands and a plus arm.  Took a very hard-hit ground ball off the shoulder last night with a great response, but he wouldn’t rub it.

+ LHP Jordan Poore Park Vista HS (2015)
Florida Atlantic commit. 5-foot-11, 175 pound lefty with a loose arm and easy mechanics. Fastball was 85-88 mph with good firm finish. Curveball is a ¾-downer with some depth.  Began a bit scattered last night, but has the mechanics and looseness to repeat,  just needs to slow down.  Ended up striking out 6 in his 4 IP.  Lacks the physicality and stuff for pro ball out of high school, but will be a prospect out of college.

+ C Tyler Huggins Park Vista HS (2015)
Palm Beach St commit. 6-foot-3, 195 pound catcher with a good body and plus arm now.  Big and athletic behind the plate, but just a kid who hasn’t developed yet. He has a chance to stay there.  Bat has a little ways to go but there’s power potential via the body and projection.

+ LF Colin Smith Park Vista HS (2015)
5-foot-10, 195 pound outfielder. Physical body with strength in the bat that plays.  Doubled hard into right center field off of a Lemieux changeup last night and also had another hit.  Will be a solid college bat. Also pitches. Could be a 2 way guy.

Lake Minneola vs East Ridge 2/19/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ 3B Drew Mendoza Lake Minneola HS (2016)
Florida St commit. 6-fot-4, 190 pound infielder with a tall loose athletic projectable body with long loose arms and legs. Easy smooth actions with some softness in hands. Good release with a short high ¾ slot. Fluid fielder that can get a little flashy at times. Showed an avg arm but is supposed to have a plus arm on the mound. Has power in the bat with some strength now and more to come. Has a loose bat with some quickness. Has some length in swing with loft. Is aggressive with a good path. Barrel stays in the zone and uses the whole field. Was 2-3 today with a line drive up the middle and a hard hit single in the 6 hole. Came up in a big situation late in the game and turned on a fastball that he hit deep to right field that was caught. Just missed a game winning home run. Very athletic kid that just finished basketball. Looks like he could become a 2016 draft.

Pace vs LaSalle 2/18/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RF Lorenzo Hampton Monsignor Pace (2015)
Cal Berkeley commit. 6-foot-5, 205 pound outfielder with an ideal body. Tall athletic projectable.  Reminds me of Domonic Brown.  Impressive BP with a simple trigger and hands-to-ball approach. Hits them a long way and does it easy and doesn’t even use his lower half well. There’s more power in there.  Has a little ways to go for the power to play. The bat and power don’t really translate to the game yet, where a lack of rhythm has him feeling for the ball instead of exploding through it.  Not a runner despite dad’s being a former NFL running back, but has an above avg ML arm. Could become a draft. Profiles for right field. Tonight was 1 for 3 with I BB

+ SS Jorge Arenas Monsignor Pace (2016)
6-foot, 180 pound short stop who is a solid defender w/soft hands and an above avg ML arm.  Makes the plays and gets rid of the ball for firm, accurate throws.  Must see more of bat, but the glove alone gives him the ability to play at the next level.

Olympia VS Lake Brantley 2/18/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ LHP Juan Hillman Olympia HS (2015)
Central Florida commit. 6-foot-1, 175 pound lefty with a lean loose live athletic projectable body and a loose live arm. Fluid delivery with some deception. Hides ball in back. Lands in line. Repeats delivery. Fastball has good tilt and late sink and run at 87-90 mph. Commands the fastball very well for his Age. Curveball had ¾ tilt with depth. Avg to above avg ML pitch at 72-74 mph. Threw a few changeups at 77-78 mph but didn’t need it. Will be a future avg to above avg pitch. Is a strike thrower. Commands the fastball and throws off speed stuff for strikes. Very advanced pitchability for his age. Very efficient with a low pitch count. Should be a good 2015 draft.  5 innings, 9 K's, 0 BB, 2 hits

+ RHP Casey Sutherland Lake Brantly HS (2015)
Davidson commit. 6-foot-4, 190 pound right hander with a tall loose lean projectable body. Loose arm with a high ¾ slot/ Has some tilt on the fastball at 84-87 mph. Curve ball was a ¾ roller that he threw for strikes at 71-73 mph. Throws a lot of strikes. Competes well. Velocity will come with physical maturity. Has some ceiling.

+ RHP Michael Ruff Lake Brantly HS (2016)
Florida Atlantic commit. 6-foot-3, 200 pound right hander with a big strong athletic body. Physical guy with a loose live arm and a high ¾ slot. Fast ball had velocity at 87-89 mph but occasionally got a little flat. Curve ball had very tight ¾ rotation with good depth. Struggled to repeat it and throw it for strikes. Above avg ML pitch. Very good looking young arm with some upside. Will throw harder.

+ SS Francis Villamen Olympia HS (2017)
6-foot-1, 180 pound short stop with a lean live athletic projectable young body. Very good actions with good quick hands and a solid avg ML arm. At least an avg ML runner. Has some looseness in the bat with some quickness and some strength at a very young age. Shows power when he gets extended. Very aggressive approach. Good tools on a good body. Plays a bit out of control but is still very young. Was 2-3 tonight. Could become a 2017 draft.

+ SS Harrison Ray Lake Brantley HS (2016)
Vanderbilt commit. 5-foot-10, 170 pound infielder with a loose athletic body and very good actions with soft hands. Very good defender that squares a lot of balls up and uses the whole field. Good hand eye. Some quickness in hands with a good path. Barrel stays in zone. Bat will improve with added strength. Tonight was 1-3 with a single line drive to right center field.

North Marion vs Trinity Catholic 2/18/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ RHP Brandon Reitz Trinity Catholic (2016)
6-foot-1, 170 pound right hander with a lean, athletic, and projectable body. He has a quick, somewhat stiff arm with an over-the-top arm slot that produces a good downward angle when he stays on top of the ball. He has a high leg kick that causes him to lean back slightly when he brings it up. Takes ball out to second base. Saw him out of the stretch in the third inning, his fastball was at 85 mph. Slider was sharp with a late break that had ¾ rotation and broke 2 planes at 74-75 mph. Against North Marion he had 3 1/3 IP, 2 K's, and 4 runs allowed.

+ LHP Dante Torino North Marion HS (2016)
5-foot-11, 180 pound left hander with a strong, athletic body with a strong lower half  that suit him well as a pitcher. He has a high ¾ arm slot with an arm that is loose and whippy. Takes ball out in line to second base and lands in line. Occasionally will fly open early with his front side. His fastball has good arm-side run that I saw at 81-84 mph in the fourth and fifth innings. He has a good 12/6 curveball that has good depth, breaks late, and he keeps it down for strikes at 73-75 mph. Against Trinity Catholic he had 5 1/3 IP, 6 K's, and 3 runs allowed.

+ OF Ryan Owens North Marion HS (2015)
Bethune Cookman commit. 6-foot-2, 175 pound outfielder who has a lean, athletic, and projectable body that produces athletic actions and will easily fill out more. He is a loose runner with long strides. Tracks ball well in the outfield and covers a lot of ground. He has a loose, over-the-top throwing motion with an average ML arm. At the plate he has an open stance, nice separation in his load, and a nice swing plane with a line drive swing and gap power. He has average bat speed that will increase with added strength. Against Trinity Catholic he was 2-4 with 1 RBI.

Everglades vs Cypress Bay 2/16/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RHP Justin Carrillo Everglades HS (2016)
5-foot-8, 150 pound right hander with a smaller framed lean body that would benefit from added strength. Max effort guy that throws strikes with all 3 pitches. Fastball looked to be in the low to mid eighties. The curve ball and slider were both very good pitches. Tight rotation with depth. Swing and miss pitches at this level. Lived at the knees on both sides of the plate.

+ RHP Greyson Fletcher Cypress Bay HS (2017)
6-foot-4, 175 pound right hander with tall lanky projectable young body that will improve with physical maturity. Fastball was in the low eighties and threw strikes with it. Curve ball was a little soft but will improve with velocity. Loose working arm that will get stronger. Good looking young projectable arm.

+ 3B Juan De La Espriella Cypress Bay HS (2015) Villanova commit. 6-foot, 180 pound third baseman with a lean athletic projectable body. Decent actions for his position with avg hands and enough arm. Offensive guy with some quickness in his hands and a good path. Short compact swing. Bat will improve with added strength. 4.8 home to 1B.

+ C Devin Ramirez Cypress Bay HS (2016)
5-foot-11, 170 pound catcher with a lean athletic projectable body. Very good receiver with soft hands and also blocks well. Has enough arm with a 2.1 pop time to 2B. decent bat speed with a good path. Overall game will improve with added strength.

Westwood Christian vs Calusa Prep 2/16/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RHP Luis Rodriguez Calusa Prep (2015)
6-foot-4, 190 pound right hander with a tall slender, powerful body and quick arm that produces mid-90s fastball when he wants it. Fastball is 90-93 mph. and consistent firm tail with sink for plus life. Drop-and-drive delivery which hurts his angle at times.  Went with mostly fastballs tonight. Slider was fringy but improved as the game went on. Did not see a third pitch. Inconsistent delivery and command will more than likely make him a bullpen guy. He will likely have to develop his breaking ball as well. Arrived from the Dominican Republic last fall, so there are a lot of unknowns but has a very good arm. Today was 6 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 3 BB, 9 K.

+ RHP Hector Moreta Calusa Prep (2015)
6-foot-4, 180 pound right hander with a tall lean projectable body and a max effort, reliever type delivery, but super quick arm with some recoil. Fastball was 94-96 mph with plus tail and riding life. Curveball was firm with some rotation, but needs better shape and depth.  Turns 20 in December, but has a special arm. Today, 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K

North Florida Christian VS Bay HS 2/13/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ RHP Cole Sands North Florida Christian (2015)
Florida St commit. Slider was a lot better in his second outing against Bay. It breaks more like a cutter but late. Doesn’t break 2 planes but is tight and late cut action at 82-85 MPH. He also mixed in a few changeups that had the same arm speed as his fastball. It was deceiving and had late sink at 79-81 MPH. He mixed his pitches well and struck out batters with all three pitches. Fastball was 89-92 mph and he attacked the strike zone with it. 5 IP, 7 K's, 0 ER against Bay HS.

+ LHP Cole Ragans North Florida Christian (2016)
Florida St commit.  6-foot-4, 200 pound lefty with a tall, lean, and projectable frame that has plenty of room to add weight and muscle. He works fast and has a quick motion. In his windup his hands go over his head, takes ball out past his hip. He drives off his back leg very well. Average effort but his arm works fairly easy with an over hand slot. His fastball has a good downward angle at 87-91 MPH. He also showed one big 12/6 curveball that had good depth and broke pretty late at 70 MPH. 1 IP, 1 k, no base runners against Bay HS.

+ INF Landon Seymour North Florida Christian (2015)
5-foot-9,165 pound infielder with a smaller, compact frame but is athletic, lean and strong for his size. At short stop he has athletic quick feet around the bag. Aggressive in the field. Comes and gets balls well. He has a quick release with a short/over-the-top slot with an average arm. At the plate he has an open stance, wide base, flat bat in his stance/load, and a small separation for his load. He has a short, quick swing that is flat through the zone. The ball jumps off his bat for his size. 1-3 (2B,BB) against Bay HS.

+ LHP/OF Trey Pearce North Florida Christian (2016)
6-foot, 185 lefty with a lean, athletic, and projectable body. High effort guy with a stiff, over-the-top arm slot. Takes bal out in line and he lands in line. 80-83 mph fastball with a downward angle. His changeup has good deception and arm side run at 71 mph when he doesn't choke it. He throws a slow curveball for strikes at 63 mph that has a ¾ break with pretty good depth but it breaks early. 1 IP, no runs against Bay HS.

The First Academy vs West Oaks Academy 2/13/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RHP Chadwick Word The First Academy (2015)
Furman commit. 6-foot, 190 pound avg sized right hander with a strong muscular lower half. Long arm arc in back with an over hand slot. Loose easy working arm with fluid delivery. Fastball has some tilt when he gets over his front side at 84-86 mph. Will throw a little harder. Curve ball was 71-72 with a ¾ rotation. A little soft. Tends to get around it. A bit inconsistent with his release point but throws strikes and competes well.

+ LHP Sixto Torres West Oaks Academy (2015)
Alabama St commit. 6-foot-4, 220 pound lefty with a big tall thick strong body and a loose whippy live arm. Very good arm speed with a big arm arc in back. Lands slightly across the body. Front side occasionally pulls off line and balls get away from him. Release point is a bit inconsistent,  but it’s early in the year. Some recoil on Fastball finish. Fastball had late life in the zone at 87-90 mph. Curveball has ¾ tilt with good depth. Flashes a plus ML pitch but very inconsistent. Good arm speed on the changeup at 80-82 mph. Flashes above avg ML pitch with good fade to it, but again, inconsistent. Could be a 2015 draft.

+ INF Graham Dvorak The First Academy (2017)
5-foot-11, 170 pound middle infielder with a body similar to Scooter Ginnett. Good actions with solid hands and enough arm for the middle of the infield. Looks like an avg runner with some athleticism. Grinder type kid that makes all of the routine plays. Good approach with quickness in the bat. Bat will benefit from added strength. Still very young. No stride, very simple approach with good hitters hands. Good path. Stays inside ball. Line drive stroke. Uses the whole field. Doubles type power to both gaps. Is a good looking young hitter with more power to come that can play the middle of the infield. Very good student.

+ OF Kendrick Calilao the First Academy (2018)
5-10, 160 pound outfielder with a live athletic very young body. Good actions with an above avg ML arm. Looks like at least an avg runner. Good body and tools for such a young kid. Good approach with the bat and a good path. Good poise against a draftable arm. Quick bat with some strength now and a lot more to come. Avg power now. Stays inside ball well with very good hands. Will be fun to watch develop.

+ C Cody Oerther The First Academy (2016)
5-10, 170 pound catcher with a stocky strong body. Solid receiver with a slightly below avg arm but plays up with his quick release. High energy kid that appears to like to play. Has quickness in the bat with some strength. Good bat path with some length and loft. Bat will benefit from added strength. Hit a long home run off of a very good arm.

Gulf Coast VS Naples 2/13/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ CF Garrett Zech Naples HS (2015)
South Florida commit. 6-foot-2, 195 pound outfielder with a lean live athletic projectable body. 1 for 2 with a walk, hit a missile single line drive over the shortstops head.  Physical, plus athlete with reads, breaks, aggressiveness, and instincts that will allow him to stay in centerfield. Plus plus runner. 6.4-6.5 60 yard dash.  Kind of a crude approach – open stance with early step for a 2-part approach – makes things difficult for him, but he does have hand-eye.  I think he’s a little bit of a sleeper. Could be a decent 2015 draft.

+LHP Michael Zimmerman Gulf Coast HS (2015)
Florida commit. 6-foot-3, 180 pound lefty that really looks the part with long, projectable limbs and plenty of room to fill out and become very physical.  So far he's off to a slow start, despite positive results.  Lots of length and 3/4 slot for an uphill 85-88 mph fastball and an occasional fringy 3/4 curveball. Occasionally shows feel for a future avg ML changeup. Has a loose easy working arm with more velocity to come. Fair hip action. Lands on his heel which contributes to a delivery that lacks consistency, and explosiveness. Could still become a 2015 draft.

Mater Academy vs Braddock 2/12/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ CF Willie Padron Braddock HS (2015)
5-foot-8, 185 pound outfielder with physicality and strength that play into a fast, aggressive, compact swing. Looks a little bit like Kirby Puckett. Doesn’t fit the pro game, but he’s a tough kid who can play the game.  Had good at bats and a nice game for him today (long, high 2-run HR), despite a tough loss. Can help a college team.

+ SS Anthony Alvarez Braddock HS (2015)
5-foot-9, 195 pound infielder with a thick blocky strong body. Is physical and strong with a quick, aggressive swing. Soft hands with an avg arm. Body will force him to move off short stop and probably to third base. Long, high home run yesterday (1 for 2) – will be able to help a college team.

+ OF Danny Reyes Mater Academy (2015)
Miami commit. 6-foot-2, 200 pound outfielder with a big physical body and above avg ML power. Swung the bat well: 3 hard hit balls to the opposite field (2 for 4, two line drive singles).  Came up with game on the line in the bottom of the 7th and nearly hit one out to right field (caught by right fielder).  Good approach – the best I’ve seen him perform in a long time. Could be a decent 2015 draft.

+ 3B Lazaro Rodriguez Mater Academy (2016)
6-foot, 170 pound third baseman with a good body that resembles a smaller Alfonso Soriano. Had some whip in his swing with a good path that has a chance to play. Had a single and double today. Solid defender at third base with an avg arm that gets a little floppy at times. A little raw, but athletic. Can play somewhere at the next level.

Lincoln VS Wakulla 2/12/15

By Justin Burgess
Area Florida Scout

+ LHP Tyler Holton Lincoln HS  (2015)
Florida St commit. 6-foot-2, 200 pound lefty with a lean, athletic, and projectable body with good strength and fluid actions. In his windup he has good tempo, balance, and stays under control in his delivery. When he breaks his arm goes straight back toward second base. He has an over-the-top arm action that is loose. Pretty effortless on the mound. His fastball has a good downward plane and he spots it up pretty well at 83- 86 and touching 87 MPH. His changeup is deceiving as he uses the same arm speed and it dives down late with slight arm side run at 73-76 MPH. He has a good curveball that has a ¾ break with a lot of depth that breaks late at 72-73 MPH. He also showed a slider/cutter that had about a six inch break late that works especially well to lefties and keeps hitters off balance. Has good feel for pitching. Against Wakulla he had 4 IP, 5 K's, and 0 runs allowed.

+ OF Willis McDaniel Lincoln HS (2015)
5-foot-9,165 pound outfielder who plays football as well. McDaniel has a smaller frame but has very good strength and is very athletic. In the outfield he covers a lot of ground and gets good jumps on balls. He has very good speed that will allow him to remain in center. He has an average outfield arm with a loose over-the-top release. At the plate he is slightly open, relaxed, gets nice separation, with some loft in swing. He has a quick bat and great swing plane with good plate coverage. Hits with authority to all fields and has very good power for his size. Against Wakulla he was 3-3 with a GS, 3B, BB, and six RBI's.

+ SS Blake Reese Lincoln HS (2015)
Florida commit. 5-foot-11,180 pound shortstop with a lean, athletic body that suits him well for a MIF spot. At the plate he has an open stance, gets good separation, and has good rhythm. He uses his lower half well and he has a good lefty swing plane. Hits with authority to all fields. He has average bat speed that produces gap power but will increase with added strength. He is a switch-hitter but I only saw him from the left side. In the field he is polished with quick, light feet and soft hands. He takes great angles on balls hit his way and has an average to above arm from SS with a short, quick, and loose release. He has very good instincts in the field. Against Wakulla he was 1-3 with a BB.

+ INF Trevor McElroy Lincoln HS (2016)
5-foot-10,150 pound infielder INF with a lean and athletic frame with a lot of room to fill out. He is lefty hitter with an advanced approach that likes to drive the ball the other way. He has a small leg kick with good rhythm and a nice load to get him into a strong hitting position. He has a nice swing plane and average bat speed that will increase with strength. Hits with authority to all fields. In the field he has light, athletic feet but his hands are a little stiff. He has an average arm but a loose motion that should allow it to get stronger. Against Wakulla he was 3-3 with a 2B.

Tampa Jesuit VS Venice 2/12/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ LHP Bobby Hearn Tampa Jesuit (2015)
Wake Forest commit. 6-foot-1, 195 pound lefty with a strong, projectable athletic frame with a lot of room to fill out. His windup is pretty quick with a high leg kick and a slight hip turn. When he breaks, his arm goes back at a slight angle toward shortstop. He closes himself off a little when he lands and throws slightly across his body. He has a high ¾ arm slot with a slightly stiff-working arm. His fastball has a good downward plane when he stays on top and has an average curveball with a ¾ break that has decent depth. His changeup is still a work in progress. Fastball 82-84 MPH, curveball 66-68 MPH, and changeup 74-75 MPH. Against Venice he threw four innings, struck out two, and gave up two earned runs.

 + RHP/3B Ronnie Ramirez Tampa Jesuit (2015)
Florida St commit. 5-foot-10, 180 pound right hander who also played third base. Has a strong, stalky body with smooth and quick actions on the field. At third, he has quick, light feet and soft hands. He has a loose, above average arm across the diamond that produces accurate and on-line throws. At the plate he gets good separation with a strong hands load that gets his bat into an ideal hitting slot. He tends to step out slightly but still manages to cover the plate and the ball jumps off his bat. On the mound he was an easy 86-87 MPH with a loose arm and had a big ¾ breaking curveball that had a late break at 72-73 MPH. Against Venice he was 0-2 with a deep sac fly to the wall.

+ OF Kenny Taylor Tampa Jesuit (2015)
Duke commit. 5-foot-10, 165 pound outfielder with a lean live athletic body on a smaller frame. Quick twitch guy with quick smooth actions in the outfield. Moves very well to the ball and takes great routes. Good reads and a quick first step. He has an above average, loose arm with carry and accuracy. At the plate he has a slightly open stance, gets good separation, and has a short/quick swing that you want from a guy with his speed. He has an up-the-middle approach with a flat swing. Barrel stays in the zone. Good line drive stroke. He also gets great jumps on the base paths. Very disruptive on the bases. He is a fun player to watch and runs very well (6.5 60). Against Venice he was 2-3 and had a stolen base.

+ RHP Cole Kragel Venice HS (2015)
Virginia Tech commit. 6-foot-8, 215 pound right hander who is extremely tall, with a loose lean, and projectable body. He has all the room to fill out. In his windup he drops down, his arm goes toward the first baseman after he breaks, he closes himself off a little when he lands, and throws across his body with a loose, low sidearm release. His fastball has good arm-side run and sink when he keeps it down. He as an above average slider that has a 9/3 sweeping break and breaks late. He fills up the zone with both pitches and uses them both in all counts. His fastball sits at 84-87 MPH and his slider is 77-79 MPH. Against Jesuit they could not figure him out as he went four innings, allowing no runs and striking out six.

Flanagan VS Monsignor Pace 2/11/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ 2B Leroy Garcia Monsignor Pace (2015)
Bethune Cookman commit. 5-foot-11, 175 pound infielder who is a gamer type kid with an aggressive offensive approach and a nose for the ball on defense. Competes very well at the plate. Line drive type stroke with a gap to gap type approach. Has strength and quickness in his swing.  Wants the ball hit to him on defense.  Limited ability but can play the game. Will be able to help a college team.

+ LHP Manuel Rodriguez Monsignor Pace (2017)
6-foot, 180 pound lefty with a thick blocky body. Some effort in the delivery from an over hand slot. Fastball was 83-86 mph. Was effective in securing the win tonight. Constantly challenged hitters with his fastball. Aggressive. Did not see secondary pitches.  DNS secondary. Good young competitor.

+ SS Mark Vientos Flanagan HS (2017)
Miami commit. 6-foot-3, 160 pound prospect. Really looks the part. Is still very young but already has attracted attention. I’ve seen him quite a bit and his abilities are well documented. I look forward to watching him grow as a player.

+ LHP Jeremy Cook Flanagan HS (2016)
6-foot-1, 155 pound lefty with a loose lean projectable body. The line score tonight doesn’t do him justice (2.1 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, 3 K). Has a loose arm with a low- to mid-80s fastball and can spin a downer curveball well.  He’ll have some pitch-ability and will be a good HS pitcher – potential D1 candidate.

Gulliver Prep vs Westminster Christian 2/11/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RHP Alex Valverde Gulliver Prep (2015)
Miami commit. 6-foot-3, 200 pound right hander with a good body and clean, repeatable delivery. Fastball was 84-90 mph today. (90-93 mph in Jupiter) with tailing life and occasionally 2 very good secondary pitches.  Curve ball has  ¾ rotation and is almost an avg ML pitch. Above average feel for his changeup.  Has a low elbow at release but his pitchability is advanced.  Tons of strikes, extremely fast-paced. Solid pro prospect. Could be a 2015 draft. Has better stuff than he showed today.  Has a loosey-goosey approach.  Had trouble the first inning where he gave up all 3 runs allowed, and then settled in nicely the rest of the way.

+ C Pedro Pages Gulliver Prep (2016)
Florida Atlantic commit. 6-foot, 210 pound catcher with a physical, soft body and above avg ML arm. A sound receiver whose catch and throw skills will attract pro scouts next year. Bat has some strength with fair bat speed.  Swing has some length. Just needs to hit enough.

+ RF Giovony Soto Gulliver Prep (2016)
6-foot, 210 pound outfielder with a thick blocky strong body. Physical outfielder with an avg arm. Athletic set-up at the plate with strength and quickness in swing. Good path with good balance. Will be a very good college player.

+ SS Javy Valdes Gulliver Prep (2016)

+ RHP Robert Touron Gulliver Prep (602, 175, 2017)
6-foot-2, 175 pound right hander with a good pitchers body. Finished the game with 2 strong innings.  Fastball was 88-91 mph with deception. The ball gets on hitters quick. Solid delivery.  Pounded the strike zone with low, live fast balls. I did not see any secondary pitch. Could become a 2017 draft.

+ 3B Julian Infante Westminster Christian (2015)
Vanderbilt commit. 6-foot-3, 205 pound third baseman with a strong blocky athletic body. 2 for 3 today with 2 hard hit line drives. The first of which drove in a run (line drive to LCF); the second one hit right at a leaping third baseman.  Made one error, but rebounded to make the routine plays, one a nice play to his right.  Feet are a little heavy, but hands and arm will play.  Outstanding work ethic gives him a chance to stay at third base.

+ RHP Jagr Enrique Westminster Christian (2015)
Barry commit. 5-foot-11, 175 pound right hander with an undersized body for his position. Came in to close the game by pounding the zone from side arm angle for 2 final innings.  Fearless strike-throwing approach. Fastball had good life down in the zone at 81-83 mph.  Will be effective at the college level.

+ SS Anthony Villar Westminster Christian (2018)
5-foot-9, 165 pound infielder who is an impressive defender that holds down the middle of the field as a freshman on a good high school team.  Soft, quick hands with an avg, accurate arm and defensive flash with a lot of confidence.  Bat has a ways to go, but he has plenty of time to develop that part of his game. Added strength will improve his all around game.

+ LHP Ryan Terry Westminster Christian (511, 175, 2015)
Central Florida commit. 5-foot-11, 175 pound lefty with a medium-sized body. Really competed in what was a big-game atmosphere (at neutral field Killian).  Fastball was 83-86 mph with good life. Solid curveball, and changeup that got better as the game went along. Had good feel with deception on the changeup.  5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO.  Not much projection, but perhaps will eventually become a senior sign. Will be effective at the college level.  Love the way he competes.

+ CF Alvaro Valdez Westminster Christian (2016)
6-foot-1, 205 pound outfielder with a body like Andre Ethier. Smooth-swinging CF from the Dominican Republic. His 1st- inning hit a double into deep LCF off of Valverde that plated two runs.  Also saw him at PG World event in Ft Myers in January where he shined.  Doesn’t run enough for CF down the road, but it’s a good swing and a good body. 2 for 2 with a BB today. Had good swings and good at bats.

+ RF Adrian Mayans Westminster Christian (2015)
Davidson commit. 5-foot-11, 185 pound outfielder with a strong, athletic body and a very quick bat. Good path with good hand eye.  Will be a good college hitter. Performed well tonight as he went 2 for 2 with a BB.

+ OF Clayton Jeffries George Jenkins (2015)
Lenoir Rhyne commit. 5-foot-9, 180 pound outfielder and left handed pitcher. Stocky strong body. Decent range in outfield with a very good arm. Short compact quick stroke with some loft in swing. Fastball was 86-89 mph. Curveball was 71-73 mph with ¾ soft rotation. Inconsistent release making his command a bit inconsistent. That will come with reps.

+ SS Robert Lopez George Jenkins (2015)

Central Florida commit. 6-foot-1, 185 pound lefty with a strong athletic body and a muscular strong lower half. Loose easy working arm with a ¾ slot. Slow and deliberate but fluid delivery. Front side occasionally flies open and gets under the ball but mostly stays in line. Takes ball out slightly past hip with a bit of a wrist wrap. Fastball has tail at 85-88 mph. Swing has quickness with leverage. Will improve with added strength. Still very young. Good hand eye. Make a lot of contact. On the mound, had a loose easy working arm with a high ¾ slot and  a very good delivery. Fastball was 85-88 mph. Curveball was 72 mph with a ¾ rotation that will tighten up as velocity improves. Swing has quickness with good leverage and a good path. Can drive ball a long way when he gets his long arms extended. Bat stays in the zone. Stays inside ball well and can drive ball to both gaps.  + RHP Dalton Senger Boca Community HS (2016)
Tall lean athletic projectable body. I did not have a radar gun on him but I would say that he is low to mid 80s. Has a loose arm and clean delivery. He just threw out of the stretch when I saw him. Throws a lot of strikes with all 3 pitches. Ball really jumps out of his hand. Arm strength will improve with physical maturity.

+ LHP Mitchell Senger Boca Community HS (2016)
Uncommitted Junior. 6-foot-3,185 pound lefty with a tall loose lean athletic projectable body. I did not have a radar gun on him but I would say he is low to mid 80s.  + RHP Michael Schappell West Broward HS (2015)

Ball really jumps out of his hand. Curveball has depth and can throw it along with the changeup for strikes. Good delivery. Control was inconsistent. Left a few balls up in the zone. Velocity will continue to improve with physical maturity.

Brandon VS Bloomingdale 2/10/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ SS Austin James Bloomingdale HS (2016)
FIU commit. 6-foot-1,175 pound short stop with a very athletic, lean, and projectable body with quick-twitch actions all over the field. In the infield, he has quick, light feet and attacks balls hit his way. He can also cover a lot of ground and has a short, quick throwing action that is definitely a playable arm from SS. He has soft hands and is pretty smooth, especially turning double plays. At the plate, his hands start off pretty far back but he gets a nice load that puts himself into a good launch position. He has quick hands and stays inside the ball well. Sometimes he lets balls on the inner half get too deep instead of catching it out front. He will add strength and weight easily. Against Brandon he made some athletic plays in the field and was 0-3 at the plate.

+ LHP Antonio Velez Brandon HS (2016)
South Florida commit. 6-foot-1,185 pound lefty with a lean, athletic, and projectable body. He has a quick motion before pausing at the top of his delivery. His arm goes straight back toward second base after he breaks, and his front foot lands in-line. He has a high ¾ release with a slightly stiff arm. He has three pitches he throws for strikes at any time in the count. Both his fastball and changeup look very similar. Both have arm-side run with the same arm speed. His changeup has late sink and is his out-pitch at 78-81 MPH. His curveball has a slurvy motion but has good depth and he locates it well at 73-75 MPH. He lives away with his fastball that has a late tail at 85-88 MPH. Against Bloomingdale he had 3 IP, 4 K's, 0 ER.

Flanagan VS Columbus 2/9/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ RHP Gentry Fortuno Flanagan HS (2015)
Central Florida CC commit. 6-foot-2, 230 pound right hander with a thick blocky strong body and a repeatable delivery, he hammers the bottom of the zone with 3 pitches. FB 85-87 mph in 1/3 inning on this night before the rain washed the game, but this guy can really pitch.  I watched his bullpen and have seen him before (up to 89).  Fringy CV and good feel for his CH, he is consistently down in the zone with life.  Had a long winning streak (around 20 games). Could be a 2015 draft.

+ SS Mark Vientos Flanagan HS (2017)
Miami commit. 6-foot-3, 170 pound short stop with a plus body and a smooth fielder with a plus arm looks like a young Alex Rodriguez. all loose lean rangy projectable body. Loose easy actions in field with softness in hands.Swing has alot of looseness with some length and quickness. Shows some power now with alot more to come. Very high ceiling for this kid. He’ll be heavily scouted in a couple of years. Has a chance to be a 2017 draft.

Mater Academy VS Coral Gables 2/5/15

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

+ OF Daniel Reyes Mater Academy (2015)
Florida Commit. 6-foot-2, 200 pound outfielder with a  big strong body with big raw power. Played fine in CF, but lacks ideal range for that position. He will likely end up in LF. Has an avg ML arm. Has above avg power, with a lot of lift in the swing. Will have to be a smarter hitter at the next level against better stuff. 2 firm singles up the middle tonight with at least one run.

+ C Elih Marrero Coral Gables HS (2015)
Mississippi St commit. 5-foot-9, 185 pound catcher with a stocky strong body similar to Pudge Rodriguez. Caught fine and really threw well.  Picked runners off 2B and 1B and nearly got another off 3B.  Consistently above avg arm strength with plus carry on the pick at 2B.  He’s a very accurate thrower.  A little anxious at the plate vs a soft LHP tonight. Popped up twice and a fly ball to CF, but I think he’s a sound hitter from both sides who will produce enough to get in the lineup every day at every level. Could be a good 2015 draft.

+ 1B Elijah Eusebio Coral Gables HS (2016)
Uncommitted Junior. Physical specimen. Big athletic strong body. Good bat speed and strength in the bat. Above avg power. Hit a long 3-run HR tonight and looked good doing it.  Not just a big slugger, this player has a very good approach and a professional look to him.  He will be sought after by pro scouts next year.

+ RHP Ryan Maya Coral Gables HS (2015)
Nova Southeastern commit. 6-foot-3, 185 pound right hander with a good body, very projectable. Loose easy repeatable delivery at a H3/4 slot.  Fast ball was  84-87 mph with solid angle. Curve ball was a  ¾-downer with good rotation. Threw both pitches for strikes.  Projectable kid with solid mechanics and an easy fluid delivery. Fast ball projects to be AVG in the future.  Not a pro guy now, but has a chance to be in the future.

North Florida Christian VS Aucilla Christian 2/7/15

By Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

+ RHP Cole Sands North Florida Christian (2015)
FSU commit. 6-foot-3, 205 pound right hander with a tall strong athletic build with a strong lower half. In his windup he steps straight back, his hands go over his head, his arm goes back in line with second base and he lands in line to home plate. High energy aggressive guy that works fast. Doesn’t always stay over the rubber long enough and occasionally leaves his arm behind and gets ball up in the zone. He attacks the zone with his fastball at a high ¾ arm angle at 88-92 MPH and touching 94 MPH. He was throwing a circle changeup in the bullpen but didn't throw it in the game. His breaking ball was hard at 84-85 MPH and had slurve action to it Was getting around it. Struggled to throw it for strikes consistently. Against Aucilla Christian he threw three innings and gave up four runs on three hits and struck out four. He has a good fastball that he keeps down in the zone, nedds to fine tune secondary stuff.

+ C Taylor Schmidt North Florida Christian (2016)
Uncommitted Junior. 5-foot-11,165 pound catcher with an athletic and lean body with good actions behind the plate. Good receiver with soft hands and good framing skills. Helps the pitcher. Moves well behind the plate. Blocks well. Deadens balls in the dirt. High energy kid. Tries to lead. His throws are on a line and accurate down to second base with a 2.1 pop time. At the plate he has a slightly open stance, his bat rests on his shoulder, and he has a strong load with good separation. His launching point allows his bat to have a nice plane through the zone. Has quickness in hands. Bat will improve with strength. Against Aucilla Christian he was 1-2 with a 2B and walk

+ RHP Matthew Dickey North Florida Christian (2018)
5-foot-11,165 pound right hander with a lean strong projectable body. In his wind-up he steps straight back, his arm is in line with second base when he breaks. Uses his lower half well with good extension out front. Has an over-the-top arm angle that allows for a good downward angle on his 82-85 MPH fastball. He controls both sides of the plate. He has a very advanced 12/6 curveball that has a late, sharp downward break at 72-73 MPH solid avg ML pitch now. He also showed good feel for a changeup in warm-ups that had some deception with good arm speed. Had good fade to it. Didn't throw it in the game. He threw the last two innings against Aucilla Christian and struck out four without giving up a base runner. Very advanced young arm.

Jupiter VS  DWYER - 2/4/15

+ RHP Zak Sprankle Jupiter HS (2016)
Uncommitted Junior. 6-foot-Really skinny, but delivery and arm work easy.  Only up to 82 mph, but he has good feel for the changeup. Will be a future avg pitch.Curveball is his out pitch and is a  ML avg pitch now, and throws it for strikes consistently. Much too short on velocity to project as a draft out of HS,but some velocity will come, and the CB gives him immediate value at the college level.

+ OF Reese Albert Jupiter HS (2017)
Uncommited Sophmore. Good body and smooth LH swing. Stays inside ball well and uses whole field. Good hitters hands. Showed an AVG ML arm with good accuracy. Good instincts in OF with easy athletic actions. Ran a (4.45) to 1B. Body looks a lot faster than he shows. Holds his own at the top of the order of a good HS team as just a sophomore.

 + C Mason Doolittle Jupiter HS (2017)
Uncommitted Sophmore. Big strong young, projectable body with an AVG ML arm.  Fair hands and feet, so arm and accuracy make arm play down, but this kid is young, physical, and projectable.  Some crudeness in swing but has strength and quickness with power now. More power will continue to come. Big strong offensive catcher that with work can make himself into a solid defender.

+ RHP Colten  Rendon Dwyer HS (2016)
Uncommited Junior. 5-foot-11, 180 pound right hander wuth a medium, strong body that lacks projection, but delivery and arm are clean.  He’s a strike-thrower with a FB that shows some downward tilt with some tail at 85-86 mph. CV is a little soft with some tumble to it. The curve ball has 3/4 tilt with fair rotation.  Arm is projectable. Could throw 90 mph by this time next year. Good overall aggressiveness, rhythm, and feel for pitching.

+ RHP Tyler Ahearn Dwyer HS (2017)
Florida St commit. 6-foot-170 pound right hander with a medium sized, athletic, live body. Won’t be a big guy, but could be a quick-armed 601 right hander who has stuff and can pitch. Fastball was a crisp 85-88 mph tonight with an easy working arm and good feel for pitching. He’ll likely be in the low-90s by the time he’s a senior.  Did not show a secondary pitch. Also swings the bat and runs well. Athletic kid.

Stays inside ball with quickness and strength. Can drive ball to all fields. Good bat speed. Ball jumps off his bat. Above avg power. Against Clearwater he was 0-5 but had a few loud outs and a couple bang-bang plays at first that showed off his good speed. In the outfield he covers ground well and has an average to above-average arm with good actions. The ball jumps off his bat as he hit a 2-run home run against Clearwater. On the mound he has a short quick arm with an OH slot. When he breaks his arm goes straight back and up by his ear, and when he lands, he is in line. His fastball is 81-83 MPH and he has a 67-68 11/5 curve ball that works well when kept down in the zone. Runs a 6.9, 60 yard dash.
